quick notes on sensors
Don't use resistive moisture sensors for soil like shown in many of the papers below. You want to use capacitive moisture sensors instead. Resistive sensors tend to not last long due to damage from electrolysis. If you do use a resistive moisture sensor then power on the sensor through a digital pin as needed, wait perhaps 1 mSec for everything to stabilize, do your A/D measurement, and then power down the sensor again until the next measurement is needed. This will minimize electrolysis damage long term and you will quickly kill a resistive sensor that is left powered on.
Capacitive soil moisture sensors can be left on all the time and do not have the above electrolysis issue assuming they are properly sealed including the all of electronics. They are not affected by soil (fertilizer) salts content unlike resistive sensors. The orientation and placement of a capacitive sensor will make a difference in their output in soil containers so you may have to play around a bit to get the more ideal reading range you want. I've seen this cause issues and you generally want the circuit board side facing inwards with the common generic capacitive v1.2 soil moisture sensor.
I would avoid the DHT11 humidity/temperature sensor shown in many papers below. I prefer the BME280 because I can set a bunch up and actually have them read the same under the same conditions consistently, which can be a problem with very low cost humidity sensors like the DHT11. The BME280 on protoboards are pretty cheap out of China, if in the US then check out eBay for US sellers at a pretty low cost (around $4 and you get an air pressure sensor in addition). The MCP9808 is one of the better lower cost temperature sensors that I also tested.
The Arduino type lux sensors that I've tested are pretty close to cosine correct (this is so, so important and why your phone makes a poor light meter). Assuming you know the lux to Β΅mol m-2 s-1 PPFD conversion val
... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I decided to try a Propolis product and wanted to compare the ingredients. I wanted to try to avoid essential oils, specifically citrus oils. Thought I'd share this here in case anyone else wanted to see the info compiled. For me, I decided to start with trying Cosrx because of the simplicity of ingredients.
By Wishtrend Polyphenols in Propolis 15% Ampoule
Cosrx Propolis Light Ampoule
CNP Laboratory Propolis Energy Ampule
Dr.Ceuracle Royal Vita Propolis 33 Ampoule

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Pilot on me!!
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
I'm looking for haskap/honeyberry/blue honeysuckle seeds, since even young bareroot plants can be a bit pricey. Does anyone have any haskap berries that they could save some seeds from? I'm sure the seeds would be fine even if they were from berries stored in the freezer.
That's the main thing, but I'm also looking for bloody dock and hablitzia/caucasian spinach, as well as any other interesting cold hardy (to zone 5 or 6) fruits and edibles.
I have some Aronia melanocarpa, Cucurbita foetidissima, Illinois bundleflower, American beautyberry, white snakeroot, buttonbush, hardy Opunita (I think O. humifusa) and probably some other things depending on what you're interested in.
When I got home, they were still there.

Then I Met You The Giving Essence
Every so oftenβ¦I come across a product that just takes my skincare routine to a whole new level. Sometimes I see amazing results, sometimes really good results for an exceptionally good price, or itβs even just the texture/feel/experience of the product that makes it really special. The Living Cleansing Balm (also from Then I Met You) was one of the first products for me that fell into this categoryβ¦The Giving Essence is another.
There are a lot of things about this essence that remind me of all the others I have tried in the past (especially those considered βfirst essencesβ). The Giving Essence has a very thin/watery consistency that absorbs nicely and layers well. Youβll find some fermented ingredients here along with brightening and hydrating ones tooβ¦again pretty much par for the course for a lot of essences. But, itβs what Then I Met You has done to heighten some of these benefits that makes it truly unique.
Right out of the box this essence really interested me. The glass bottle is painted in a similar fashion to the Birch Milk Refining Tonerβ¦but this time the paint kind of fades away/tapers off to reveal the bright pink hue of the essence itself. This really is some unique packaging that I donβt think I have seen before.
That pink color comes naturally from the Black Chokeberry Extract in the formula. In addition, there are just so many hydrating and antioxidant rich ingredients here (and in high concentrations) it would be hard to list them all. But some of the standouts include Galactomyces/Aspergillus/Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrates (the first three ingredients), Ellagic Acid (a powerful antioxidant and anti-aging ingredient), Red Algae Extract, Turmeric Root Extract, and Eggplant Extract (excellent for calming and soothing the skin).
In addition, Polyglumatic Acid is hereβ¦which might be the most interesting one on the list. Polyglumatic Acid has been trending in skincare for the past couple of yearsβ¦but I donβt think I have used a product that featured it in a higher concentration (or at all that I remember). Basically, it is a humectant/peptide that holds 4-5 times more moisture compared to Hyaluronic Acid.
This highly concentrated and well-formulated essence made itβs intentions clear with the first application. Just a 5-6 drops of product andβ¦how do I describe itβ¦i

You take away their little brooms
This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
There hasn't been a post all year!
