Vote Counter Puns

Italy has a lot of right wing parties which currently move towards a majority.

There isn't a competent left wing party in Italy so I would have to either vote for a populist party (5 stelle) or a party that used to work with the mafia (partita democratica). I hate the politics here already but I couldn't stand to be under a government with neo-fascists and Mussolinis granddaughter

I'm not a fan of democracy (dictatorship of the majority IMO) and voting, but in this instance I feel forced to vote for the lesser evil, even if I betray my own values that way.

Could any more experienced anarchists give me some advice on what to do?

Vote manipulation is a huge issue in the sub and I would like to start a discussion about ways in which this could be countered.

I have some ideas, but will add those in the comments so that other ideas can receive more visibility if they are better.

The objective is to avoid users creating multiple new accounts and upvoting their own content, either manually or through bots.

First of all, apologies for the delay - and sorry for keeping you all in a bit of a suspense. October, and especially the last week, have been extremely busy for me IRL (school+work) and I had little if any time/energy for personal projects. That being said - October's basically over now and, thus, here are the reults:

Without much further ado, let's get to the statistics (skip to the bottom if you want to see the results).

This was certainly an interesting survivor and its result are very different from the one hosted a few years ago. I personally tried doing something different here, to spice things up: encouraging discussion. This may sound silly, but throughout the entire survivor, instead of keeping my opinion to myself, I tried to entice discussion and get people talking about their preferrences. The reason? To see whether they'd impact the results. Did they?

First things first, what the fuck happened with Swing Life Away.

As you may see, the song that took second place in the previous survivor was faring, well, pretty well - as expected honestly. And then Round 7 came and just look at it - it jumped from fluctuating around the middle, to dead. Why? What happened?

I... don't have a clue. My smartest bet is that people may have been subconsciously motivated to see it a bit worse, due to a few comments calling it overrated prior in the Survivor. Beyond that, I have no clue.

Another funny thing in the Survivor was the immensely inconsistent amount of participants all the way through. I mean just look at the total votes:

HOW THIS WORKS: The Survivor is a community-driven game, where each round we all vote for our least favorite song off of a given album. After summing up the votes, the song that received the most votes (and is, therefore, the least liked out of the bunch) is removed from the poll in the next round. While there is already some counter-DD provided up there, I would like to quote Dave Lauer ( u/dlauer ) here. I do not say that this counter-DD is completely false, though it is really upping the expectations of a few apes. It is speculation and should be taken with a big spoon of salt.

Incoming Karma downvote - but I’m taking one for the team. For fucking history. For our fucking financial freedom and for the sake of our own intellectual integrity.

Our kindness has become our biggest weakness and it is actively being used to strategically manipulate us apes. We knew amc was a big counter play by them back in Jan/feb. The Hail Mary hedge against their inevitable demise.

It was okay to talk about the truth then.

But it’s not now.

Over time it slowly got pushed to stop speaking down about it - to be indifferent towards it. Now we even see posts accepting it saying things like “I’m in both but we all know GME is the main one”.

The combination of our natural tendency to look out for each other, and a 6 month long psychological onslaught of coaxing has led to them successfully getting us to become silent on the matter and let the truth slip slowly through the cracks.

Nobody wants to be an asshole, but that’s what they’ve done. They’ve made it where we can’t get the truth out without looking like assholes and this allows them to silence us and proceed without resistance.

I’ve been victim of this myself. In my group chats, I’m just ignoring the people that slowly started talking about AMC while also wishing them luck because why would I ever root against them?

Over the past few months, we have slowly shifted away from being allowed to expose the truth about AMC.

It’s become a taboo subject and you are attacked if you bring it up in any way that’s not slightly supportive toward the stock or the apes invested in it.

This stance of neutrality and silence on the matter has led to the decay in awareness and exposure of the truth about AMC; this has allowed them to use their mainstream media propaganda to push AMC and successfully siphon volume and buying pressure from GME without any pushback from the one source where people can actually get this truth. Here. From us.

WE ARE THE ONLY SOURCE FOR THE TRUTH BUT WE HAVE BEEN GROOMED INTO AVOIDING THE TOPIC ALL TOGETHER.

This means the biggest weapon they have- mainstream manipulation - is being allowed to be successfully used while we just sit back and quietly watch.

This truth is with us and has slowly been suppressed through the sub shifting and being emotional led into thinking that being quiet on the matter is for the best.

The narrative is trying to be made that staying quiet about it is simply for the better - that it limits unnecessary internal conflict. After-all,

• require OGE to create a public online database for any records it approves
• require agency ethics officials to provide OGE with a broad array of ethics records and require OGE to post them online
• make POTUS/VPOTUS either divest conflicting financial interests or engage in disclose information about the businesses they own
• require a presidential appointee to recuse from any particular matter involving a party who is: the POTUS who appointed him/her, the spouse or child of that POTUS, or an entity in which any of these individuals has a substantial interest
• clarify that POTUS/VPOTUS must file an annual financial disclosure report in their first year in office
• impose limits on nepotists who try to skirt the anti-nepotism law by foregoing a salary
• bar top officials for two years from working on any “particular matter” in which the official “knows or reasonably should know” a former employer or former client has a financial interest
• extend a 1-year restriction on senior employees trying to influence their former agencies to 2 years after leaving govt
• close a loophole that lets outside sources skirt a law against supplementing an appointee’s salary by timing a payment before they start in govt
• expand a ban on procurement officers involved in contracts worth >$10M from going to work for contractors they oversaw for 1 year by (a) extending it to 2 years + (b) also applying it to subcontractors, attorneys, lobbyists and consultants of the contractors
• ban former contractor employees who come into government from awarding federal contracts to their former employers for two years
• set requirements, limits and procedures for establishing legal defense funds to pay the legal bills of executive branch officials
• require OGE to post ethics waivers on its websit

I believe that in order for the Opposition to take down Duterte and his cronies from power, they need to up their campaign to combat the pseudo-science and use of statistics during the misinformation campaign of the Duterte campaign during the 2016. We know that a vast majority of Filipinos, especially the urban and rural poor, believed the information being fed to then because they sounded smart and made sense to them and their knowledge and level of education. If the opposition doesn't create a strategy or a method to convince at least most voters of not only the benefits of their policies but the failures and crimes of not only Duterte, but of Congress, Senate, the Judiciary, and the Police. It's evident that there are still many Filipinos who support Duterte, but it's also evident that many more are sitting on the fence who would be reluctant to vote for Duterte's cronies in the next election but are also wary of Liberal Party and their allies.

If the Opposition is to have any substantial support from the majority of Filipinos, they need to stamp out the misinformation ingrained in the mind of most Filipinos and show them the truth about how much worse Duterte and Co. made the Philippines and why they should at the very least not vote for him or any of his allies. This is no easy task, but it's what has to be done if it will convince the Filipinos who are sitting on the fence on who to vote and maybe even those on the other side.
