This isn't Cuba or Venezuela, this is the USA. Tell me again how capitalism doesn't have shortages. All it takes is something to panic consumers. In this case, it's a pandemic. However, it only takes a comedian to create these same types of shortages, too, which has also happened.

Aliberal feminists who are against capitalism, what do you think of the anti-capitalist efforts made by socialist regimes in Laos, Vietnam, Albania, Cuba, Yugoslavia, the USSR, the PRC before 1980, and North Korea?

Anti-capitalism is a common attitude expressed in feminist writings, but in my experience, there's not a lot of detail on how this would be accomplished. The anti-liberal and anti-capitalist attitude expressed by many feminists seems to indicate to me that they wouldn't be receptive to a Scandinavian economic model where capitalism exists alongside many social services.

Anti-capitalist efforts have been tried fairly independently in Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, Albania, the USSR, China, North Korea, and Yugoslavia. How would you evaluate their economic successes and failures? If you don't think their economic models were economically successful, how would you propose - or how have other feminists proposed that - countries should do things differently?

Edit: Also interested in thoughts if they exist about the economic system of peoples like the Amish and of North American native american tribes prior to colonization as alternatives.

My wife and I went on a trip to Cuba to stay at a few different places. By the end of week 2, we were walking barefoot across a beach, nearly dying of thirst and exhausted. We were wondering if we'd make it home, until I spotted a server holding some drinks. We sprinted towards her and drank both.

It was out last resort.

Of the countries that the U.S. has very poor diplomatic relations with, why hasn't there been sudden increased tension with Cuba under the Trump administration unlike with North Korea, Iran and Venezuela?

Except the trade war with China (which is not nearly as existentially threatening) and Russia being friendly with Trump, in nearly four years of Trump administration, North Korea, Iran and Venezuela are basically the ones whose relations with US have teetered to heightened military tensions. Cuba seems to have been the remarkable exception with Trump only issuing travel restrictions to Cuba 1 2 and thereby also, in effect, de facto reimposing some economic sanctions to the country which the Cubans are already accustomed to.

Does Cuba have some sort of leverage to insulate themselves from further American influence, or is Cuba simply out of Trump's immediate concern?
