Thanks Reddit for the questions! I'll check in again in season!
Hello guys,
It's the end of winter and thus the end of the season. Let's try to make this sub a bit more active next season! To live up to these words, I want to look back at this season and look forward to the next one. I'm interested in your opinions on some points put down below.
60 km/h on blades a few millimeters thick. Aerodynamic suits. Competitions sometimes decided on 0.01s difference. Great heroes and rising stars. International medal winners from four continents. Welcome to speed skating!
Is there a rule demanding the same in competitions? Can guys wear hi-Lo frames as well?
This question is because this is what Iโve observed in the majority of competition instances (international and elsewhere), but Iโve never been sure about it.
Please do let me know if Iโm wrong or otherwise!
Edit: feel free to still comment! I havenโt gotten a definitive answer yet.
Billeck tweet thread:
> On the Scheifele hit, GMKC says both players travelled the same distance. Says player tracking shows Scheifele decreasing skating speed by 20%. ^Tweet
> Play itself, says it's 0.8 seconds from time Evans picks up puck to time he is hit. 0.2 seconds from time puck goes into goal to hit
> Says he knows the distanced travelled is a sticking point, but feels suspensions traditionally depend on leaving feet or launching at an opponent. ^Tweet
> Head contact, while there may have been some, wasn't principle point of contact. ^Tweet
Murat's summary:
> Kevin Cheveldayoff on the Mark Scheifele hit.
> "First and foremost, I want to say I'm grateful that Jake is starting to skate again and is recovering." ^Tweet
> "I looked long and hard at the standard of charging and what escalated it to a suspension."
> Acknowledges "distance traveled" matters but says suspensions traditionally depend on leaving feet, launching oneself. ^Tweet
> Adds that there may have been head contact but the head was not the primary point of impact.
> Says that 0.8 second passed between Evans picking up the puck and the hit. Says Scheifele reduced speed by 20%.
> All in all: makes his defence. Don't have to agree but there it is. ^Tweet
