A list of puns related to "Ryū"
I have been learning Shitō-ryū from end of September 2020. The sensei who teach me was represented Shanghai for joining the Olympic games and he lost at the Chinese national competition for joining the actual Olymic game.
I train with this Shitō-ryū Dojo 5 days a week. 4 day private lessons with 1 small group class that only have two students. All the belt test are test by the Chinese Karate Association and I'm taking 2nd Kyu next month. They told me that they have teach me all the details for Pinan 1-5 and Bassai Dai. So they are going to teach me Seienchin soon.
Yesterday, I find another Dojo that teach Okinawa Shōrin-ryū and Kobudo. The only weapon he couldn't teach is sickle. I'm planning to take Tuesday and Thursday off to take 2 hours private lessons per class with this new Dojo. This Dojo provide the opportunity to receive certificate from Okinawa and Chinese Karate Association. Although, I don't think I will take the test from Chinese Karate Association for this sytle. The Okinawa Shōrin-ryū sensei said that he will normally only teach Kobudo for the student who receive 6th Kyu or at least 8th Kyu.
I know that most of the people think I'm getting the 2nd grade very fast and Chinese Karate Association is assoicate with WKF. But to be honest, trainning 5 days a week with self pratice, there isn't that much to learn other than getting the prefect form.
Because of most of the people think getting a grade is too fast is really bad. So now I want to learn a new style that can receive certificate from Okinawa or mainland Japan. At least I think that I will getting my grade way slower and able to learn to use weapons.
Do you guys think I should cross train it? Other than taking lessons from Dojo, I always train at least 2-3 hours at gym pratice Karate. E.g. Kicking heavy bag and Katas.
Is there a lot of different between the two styles?
Some of you may have read the post I created few days ago at https://www.reddit.com/r/karate/comments/nbj7sl/cross_train_shit%C5%8Dry%C5%AB_with_okinawa_sh%C5%8Drinry%C5%AB/gybk2c5/?context=3
So far, I have taken 2 one on one class Okinawa Shōrin-ryū. Each class is about 2 hours long. After I went to the Okinawa Shōrin-ryū, I realize there are a lot of difference between Shitō-ryū.
The kicking and warm up requirements are differents.
Kicking:
Front kick - Shitō-ryū we are allow to pivote a little with our supporting leg. But Shōrin-ryū require me to not pivote at all and shift the person forward.
Roundhouse kick - Shitō-ryū hit with front part of my feet. Shōrin-ryū hit with Shin
Knee and elbow strike - only learn at Shōrin-ryū
Even the warm ups are totally different:
Warn up at Shōrin-ryū:
Most of the warm up are mostly gym training. E.g. Front squat, Kettlebell Rack Walk. Then Makiwara Punching Board Training with fist jump push ups.
Warn up at Shitō-ryū:
Run for 2 minutes, football agility ladder, leg stretches, Kung Fu front and round kick.
Do you guys have the same experience like me when learning different sytle of Karare? I feel like it is two different arts.
I will keep learning both styles so I might find other things that are different and let you guys know :)
its live right now. its in japanese only without any subtitles

The Tatsu are a type of mythological dragon from Japan that were one of the oldest myths of a supernatural entity, dating as far back as indigenous water gods from prehistoric Japan, as they are found in the earliest known written historical and mythological documents. The Tatsu were prayed to for good weather or rain as well as to prevent floods or other water disasters, while also being known for causing such events as well. Some were well known protectors and considered helpful, while others were the opposite and out of spite would create disasters and torment humanity. Being very connected to water as a water god or spirit these dragons are said to posses vast rich palaces under the oceans or secluded bodies of water far from mankind, or near Buddhist temples as well. They were much like western dragons in that they horded treasures and riches to hide in their homes, they were also known to invite heroes into these treasure hordes to gift them great items of power to aid them on quests or in battle. Although considered helpful they tended to not take concern unless directly affected by human actions or affairs, but accept sacrifices or worship nonetheless and are celebrated all across the Japanese islands. This Titan is one of three great oceanic serpents not unlike the ones from Columbian mythology, and long considered to in fact be one of those three terrestrial Titans until it was seen rising from its slumber and heading for the ocean.
A truly massive species of pterosaur related to Aerodactylus, Tatsu or "Taki Ryū" (Waterfall Dragon) is a fully aquatic creature that has long lost his wings in order to be a fully functional deepsea predator, with his back legs fused into a whale-like fluke and long eel-like fins spanning the length of both sides of the Titan's body, it is a sight to behold. This massive pterosaur is able to not only swim but by breaching if he catches any wind the creature can sail along airborne like a flying fish despite his bulk. The head resembles that of a pelican
