Haberdashery Store Puns

For the last 3 months (in Victoria, Australia), I have been making masks and donating over half of them to elderly, people who work as carers or in the community care field and people at risk due to health problems.

To do this I have been spending some of my own disability pension to make up for the shortfall of the money made from the few masks that I do manage to sell. Even my GP bought a couple from me even though I offered for free. He was impressed that they are triple layered as recommended and well made.

Yesterday morning I masked up and went to Spotlight to get some quilting fats from the red tag bargain bin (100% cotton and breathable with great colours and prints) which when I usually purchased were 10 for $10. Thinking that because of the EOFYS (end of financial year sale) I might find these cheaper or same price as usual.

But no, it was 10 for $20 including the red tag bargain bin quilting fats. I didn't realise this until I got to the counter and the shop assistant told me the price. She even showed me the catalogue and I pointed out to her that the quilting fats in the picture are the white tag ones, not the bargain bin red tag ones. She then calls to check and tells me it's what the catalogue says. So I very nicely ask to see the manager.

The manager arrives and tells me that the 10 for $10 is a periodic sale, and that I was probably just lucky enough to be in during the times it was on. I explain to her what I do with the quilting fats (I also get my other supplies there as well but yesterday was only the quilting fats) and that most of masks are donated and I was luckily enough to sell 2 masks the other day so I could get some more supplies. Then asked if they could please honour the previous sale because I only had $10 and needed more fabric to make the masks.

I'm lucky enough that she was willing to this just this once for me.

But I still feel like an arsehole and a "Karen".

TLDR- AITA for asking for a discount for fabric to make the masks that I mostly donate to those who need them?

Howdy folks! Gandalf The Gray here! First off, my last store was a mess. I had a friend run it because I had to go to work unexpectedly, Steam went down right after I posted it, and when I got home from work, the reservations piled on, the friend requests added up, I didn’t know who was offering what and for what. What a cockapoo.

So, rather than bow my head in shame and head over to the 13 year olds who apparently have all boned my mother while buying craft hats at 1 refined (aka TF2 Outpost), I decide to open another store! For this one, add my alt account, Gandalf's Haberdashery if you're interested in an item. Here’s the good part: because of all the troubles, I’ve reduced the prices on virtually everything to make up for the failure of my last store!

Dear Santa,

This is not how I expected to start my first letter to you as an adult. I had fully anticipated sitting down with my future pre-literate child and dictating out their wishes to some mysterious bearded stranger that actually turned out to be the USPS postmaster, or maybe just that weird town in Indiana. Instead, here I am, not just childless but quite single, effectively praying to a Yuletide deity that I don’t believe in to deliver me out of this Lifetime movie hell.

And I mean that in the most literal sense. It genuinely feels like the last month came straight out of one of a dozen movie scripts. There I was, hanging garland and lights and ornaments in my shop when some scary Vanessa Hudgens-looking businesswoman walks in with an ominously large stack of papers and says that her company wants to buy the store and that they know I’m not earning enough to stay in business.

Which is… true, but the world doesn’t need to know that. I mean, sure, it’s my fault for trying to open a haberdashery into the teeth of the online shopping boom, and sure, every single lender and businessman I spoke to asked why people wouldn’t just go to Amazon… but did it really have to be Amazon buying out my shop?

I don’t know. Maybe I should just try to seduce her. Except she also seems to already be happily married. Maybe this isn’t a Lifetime movie after all.

Anyway, here we go. What I want for Christmas is a Lego train. Also a couple hundred thousand dollars so I don’t go out of business. But I’ll settle for the train.

Dear Ms. Jónsdóttir

First of all, I sincerely apologize for being so offensive with the previous letter. I was having an awful day and halfway through addressing my letter, gave up on remembering the term “North Pole” and instead settled for Ice Land. It was never my intention to contact the office of the Prime Minister of Iceland and beg for money and Legos.

With that in mind, I would also like to thank you for your gift of Legos and licorice tea. Amazingly, both were absolutely instrumental in the temporary recovery of my shop. I placed the train set in my front window and multiple parents came in and purchased something simply because their children wanted a closer look at it. I also had three other customers make purchases because I just looked so lonely at the register drinking my tea with a slice of dry pumpernickel (apparently I had a pretty sour look on my face, despite adding more than one sugar cube to the tea).

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
