A list of puns related to "Beggars Banquet"
For 1968, Beggars Banquet is a pretty political and socially aware album. The most obvious example is the single Street Fighting Man, but there's other examples. Examples include: Sympathy for the Devil mentioning the assassinations of the Kennedys, Jigsaw Puzzle having the line "The queen is bravely shouting 'What the hell is going on?'", and Salt of the Earth being about the working class and "stay at home voters." Not every song on the album is as socially aware, but it is a theme throughout Beggars Banquet.
Compared this to many other pop albums of the time, Beggars Banquet was much more socially and political conscious. There were other political focused popular artists at this time, such as Bob Dylan and James Brown. However, The Rolling Stones with Beggars Banquet was along side those artists when making serious statements of the political world. This would lead the way for more politically aware popular music in the late 60s and early 70s.
Beggars Banquet should be more respected in this light. It was an album that mentioned current issues going on while also going on to be a commercial success, showing that both could be done.
I went to bed with Ruby Tuesday and woke up Black & Blue.
Keep it going with Stones recordings.
I guess most of us will go with Sympathy For The Devil because how couldnt we? But except for that one I really like Dear Doctor
From the 2013 ABKCO reissue series titled The Rolling Stones Clearly Classic. Remastered, 180-gram, clear vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with the alternate βbathroomβ cover.
Iβm asking for $35 shipped, slightly lower than other US Discogs prices.
I opened this from the original factory shrink-wrap, so this has been played literally once and stored well in a plastic outer sleeve.
Iβm loathe to call anything opened NM but this is pretty dang close.
PM me if interested! Iβm a fast and reliable packer and shipper. Cheers!
I got this idea (stole this idea, sorry) when I saw u/ZootMarimbaβs post comparing TSMR to GHS.
Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed are very similar in structure and βartistic expressionβ but the latter has one less track. So, I took the liberty of cutting βFactory Girlβ out of the equation to make this ranking work... sorry again.
Track 1: Sympathy For The Devil vs. Gimme Shelter
These two tracks are both equally iconic and are often ranked as being some of the Stones' best songs - they're both great album openers that really get you in the mood for what their respective albums have to offer. And while this is a near tie, Iβm gonna have to give the first point to Let It Bleed. Gimme Shelter has that menacing and dark atmosphere which truly reflects the shaky time that was 1969 in music and the Stones' history.
Track 2: No Expectations vs. Love In Vain
Two blues ballads - one is an original and one is a cover. That doesn't really factor in for me though having to rank these songs. No Expectations is the clear winner, one of the greatest acoustic blues songs of all time. Brianβs slide is haunting and Mickβs vocals are on point. Beggars Banquet gets its first point.
Track 3: Dear Doctor vs. Country Honk
Two very funny songs that feel like βparodyβ country songs (in the best of ways). And I think Dear Doctor is the funniest (not to mention the fact that a much much better version of the latter, Honky Tonk Women, exists). One more point to Beggars Banquet.
Track 4: Parachute Woman vs. Live With Me
I love both, but Live With Me is just so much tighter (and less boring). Also, that bassline. Another point to Let It Bleed.
So far, it's tied at 2-2
Track 5: Jigsaw Puzzle vs Let It Bleed
The title track off of Let It Bleed is probably my least favorite on that album, with Jigsaw Puzzle being one of my absolute favorites on Beggars Banquet. A searing slide guitar, a demonic mellotron, a tight rhythm section and some great Dylan-esque lyrics. Beggars Banquet gets another point.
Track 6: Street Fighting Man vs Midnight Rambler
One is an energetic, riot-inciting rocker and one is a long and drawn out blues track. While still quite solid on record, Midnight Rambler is best enjoyed live. Street Fighting man is a true Stones classic, both live and in studio. Beggars Banquet gets yet another point.
Track 7: Prodigal Son vs. You Got The Silver
This was actually the hardest choice I had to make during the ranking of these tr

I was doing some spring cleaning today and while sorting through my old CD's I started staring at the cover to Beggar's Banquet. The cover is an old dirty bathroom with graffiti on the walls. One of the sketches on the wall is "Bob Dylan's Dream" with an arrow pointing down to the flusher handle of the toilet. Does anyone know the story about this? I know "Bob Dylan's Dream" is a song but I don't see the point of it being flushed. Maybe I'm digging too deep here, but digging is fun! Let me know your thoughts!
Looking at them side by side, Beggars Banquet is the wedding invitation and Let It Bleed is the wedding cake.
Is this something that has been talked about before, or something that's really obvious?
Beggars Banquet's cover is the wedding invitation and Let It Bleed's is the wedding cake.
Do you think LIB coulda had a different cover if BB wasn't censored? I think so. Just some sorta Stones humor and a perfect reply to Decca censoring a toilet.
