An Argive Roof Tile

Sooo apparently you shouldn't use Pyrrhus to take the city of Argos. I had integrated Pyrrhus into my Macedonian kingdom and had him leading my Legion. During a war with Sparta, my legion went through Argos and a scripted event popped up, with Pyrrhus dying just like he did in real life. This happen to anyone else?

The Greatest of The Argives: The Questors return

It's an early morning when the Brandon, Milly, and Arthur return to camp. The quest had proven to been a long and hard one- the three had made their way to the Cherokee National Forest in search of Achilles, and ran into the Mycenaeans that had been sent to retrieve him; amongst them was Brandon's friend, Magnus Khan, and Diomedes, the son of Tydeus, the master of the war cry. Diomedes's assault was brutal- a fatal blow meant for Brandon had been taken by Magnus instead, and Arthur Morse was run through with a sword. Despite this, the three had managed to defeat the almighty demigod, burning him into cinders with greek fire, and even managed to save Brandon's friend. Shortly thereafter, they found the person they were looking for- Achilles himself, a man who towered even over Milly's 6'5" frame. His wound had come courtesy of Diomedes- a man who was capable of injuring even the gods themselves.

The campers return- beaten and bruised, but successful. And most importantly, all of them returned.

The Old Gods: The Greatest of the Argives

A somber air has hung over Camp since the loss of an old camper. Had camp the luxury of grieving, Chiron would have given it to them- yet, they were in the middle of war. No time could be given to such activities. Not yet, anyways.

Once more the campers are made to assemble to in the pavilion, where Chiron has yet another announcement to make.

β€œChildren of Camp Half-Blood, it is my regretful duty to inform you that our troubles are not yet done.” He glances over the assembled campers. β€œI am aware that a great loss has struck our community- one that is felt by many. Thomas Steele, for all his flaws, loved camp; for that, he will be missed. I give my word that once this blasted conflict is over, he shall be given a burial fitting for one who has given his life in the way of our camp.”

β€œUnfortunately, we have more pressing concerns.” Chiron glances down at the papyri he held. β€œAs some of you may know, the Mycenaeans are gathering allies and consolidating their powers. However, they are not the only ones that can do so. It appears that while they have been resurrecting old heroes, one has defected from their ranks.” Chiron looks up, and waits for silence before he speaks.

β€œHis name is Achilles.”

Well aware of the reaction that would follow this announcement, Chiron lets the din rise and fall before continuing. β€œAchilles, known as the greatest of the Argives, was a hero I tutored personally. It appears that whatever Mycenaean influences have affected his compatriots have no sway over him- as a matter of fact, according to the very letter he’s sent me, he refuses to align himself once more with a foreign force under-” Chiron glances down at the papyri again, clears his throat.

β€œWell, he uses many words to describe this person. I cannot repeat them.” Looks up. β€œRegardless, he has no desire to once more pledge his sword to foreign dieties, and once more be under the command of the son of Atreus, Lord Agamemnon. As a result, he has defected from New Mycenae. He has gone into hiding- somewhere in the Cherokee National Forest, and requires campers to come to his aid. According to this letter, he was injured during his escape- a wound on his leg that has made it impossible to come to camp on his own. Therefore, he requires our aid, and we would be remiss if we let such a powerful ally slip by our fingers.”

Chiron looks up and continues. β€œAfter careful consideration, I have decided that Arthur Morse, Milly Beaufort, and Brandon shall be sent to retrieve Achilles

Looking for under a dollar cards like [[Baird, Steward of Argive]] , [[Isolation Cell]] , [[Zur's Weirding]] , and [[Tyrant's Choice]]

Putting together a [[Dakkon Blackblade]] deck with the restriction that every card must be under a dollar off CardKingdom, finding cards in poor conditions can circumvent the $1 rule. This deck wants to just fish for lands with fetchlands, cheap equipment like [[Explorer's Scope]] , and artifacts like [[Renegade Map]] . After Dakkon is sufficiently powered up thanks to all the lands, we pump him some more with some damage double thanks to stuff like [[Fireshrieker]] and [[Inquisitor's Flail]] , then use [[Aqueous Form]] or any of the cheap cards that grant shadow to whack people's faces. I have a few creatures in the deck, but what I'm really looking to add are tax cards to slow the game down while I build myself up or cards that force my opponents to make tough decisions. Also looking for suggestion for alternate win cons, as right now I'm relying entirely on Dakkon. Also I can't use Blackblade Reforged because it's $1.50 on CardKingdom and there aren't any damaged versions :(

Normal is .25 cents with a 6.12X foil multiplier but according to MTGoldfish he's played in ZERO decks. I'm always looking for good uncommon specs so I'd like to try to understand why the foil is so high. Is he a decent penny stock at .25? Is the foil a better buy at $1.50? He seems like a modern humans shoe in as well as a decent EDH card. Thoughts?

[Bug] Baird, Steward of Argive

I got a bug today when my opponent was playing [[Baird, Steward of Argive]]. IΒ knew IΒ needed to pay for each attacking creature.

After a couple of turn of doing nothing, I tapped all my five lands to cast [[Charging Monstrosaur]]. As it has haste IΒ just send it directly to attack, forgetting about the 1 mana necessary, and then the game was stuck on my attacking Charging Monstrosaur. The action button was gray and inactive, there was nothing that said IΒ had to pay, and there was no cancel button. The "End turn" button didn't do anything either.

My opponent, probably thinking IΒ was a noob, was highlighting his Braid to try to show me I had to pay. But IΒ had no way to tell him IΒ was stuck, the emotes were not helping.

Then I remember people talking about the pressing "z" to cancel some action. I tried and it work! I got back to the step where it prompted to pay 1, and there was a cancel button to cancel my attack. Then everything was fine.

I am not sure on how I got stuck in the attacking screen with no working button. But if you play Braid be aware that if the player is not doing anything while declaring attacking creatures, it might be because they are stuck on the same screen as I was and they don't know that pressing "z" can get them back to the pay screen.

Subterra Custom Set Preview - Team Argive

Subterra - Feature Article

Deep underground lies an unknown world.

Welcome to the first preview article for our custom set, Subterra. Imagine a cave. Seems pretty boring, right? Subterra isn't an ordinary cave though. It is an entire plane of gem caverns, underground oceans, magma chambers, and fungal forests. Huge luminescent wisps glide whimsically over abyssal chasms filled with unknown horrors. Ancient merfolk navigate an immense system of flooded chambers while stout dwarves forge masterwork artifacts with their magma-fed forges.

Those who delve too deep face unspeakable horrors. Demons born in the pure darkness of the abyss plot to free their plane of the light-bringing humans who blemish it. Here is the first of today's spoilers.

Making Magic - Recycle

The first thing I want do is show you one of the primary mechanics in Subterra, Recycle!

Click to show spoiler

Recycle should look familiar as it was inspired by three abilities from Magic's past.

Recycle was first designed during an attempt to make a mechanic that felt black/blue before Gatecrash was spoiled. Here is what the ability first looked like.

>Silence the Masses 2U

>Instant

>Creatures you don't control get -2/-0 until end of turn.

>Coverup - 3U, Exile Silence the Masses from your graveyard: Draw a card

That's right. Originally all recycle (then coverup) did was draw a card. As a dimir mechanic it was there to get additional value from spells and synergize with self mill.

Later when working on a custom wedge block, coverup was brought back under the name recycle as a black, blue, and green mechanic. Then when an Elvish Visionary with recycle was templated, the current iteration of recycle was born.

>Loam Mystic 1G

>Creature - Human Druid

>When Loam Mystic enters the battlefield, draw a card.

>Recycle - 2U, Exile Loam Mystic from your graveyard: Draw a card

How well did the Argive Phalanx fare against the Macedonian Phalanx in battle?

I was thinking about Chaeronea, where on one end Philip ordered a fake retreat or was pushed back, exposing a gap in the Athenian line to attack through, and on the other Alexander had to lead his foot? guard in person to throw back the Thebans. That seem to suggest at Chaeronea the Macedonian Phalanx could not just raw overpower the Argive Phalanx despite the longer reach.

Are there other examples of those two troop types fighting each other? How did it turn out?

DAD JOKES ARE NOT DIRTY.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Thank you,
