A list of puns related to "Spiny mouse"
Hello, I was recently gifted a Male Cairo Spiny Mouse as a pet and I am trying to construct a lovely home for them. Does anyone have experience with these lil guys?
I'm trying to create a substrate for them that is more organic. I was thinking a mixture of 70% coco coir pith fibers, and then a soil and perlite mixture for the remaining 30%. Is perlite safe for mice?
Thanks in advance!
Hi! Maybe this is a long shot, but Iโm wondering if anyone has any good resources on Cairo spiny mouse care? There are some listed near where I live (to be re-homed, Iโm worried they wonโt be adopted as mice in general arenโt particularly popular pets where I live) and I want to REALLY do my research before I decide whether or not to make a 4-7 year long commitment. Iโve only owned fancy mice before, and Iโm having a difficult time finding in-depth information on how to best care for spiny mice. Everything is saying they can live in ten gallon tanks with sawdust as nesting material, which is obviously bad advice, so any resources or information are greatly appreciated.
Iโll also be checking to make sure thereโs a vet nearby that can see them before I even think about asking the poster, donโt worry! I just want to check if theyโre even compatible for me (and my family) first.
So apparently, one of the species of spiny mice is called Percival's Mouse (acomys percivali). In the article listed below, Zoe Cormier (for real) that this species is capable of "completely regenerating damaged tissue" and that this work "could help improve wound healing in humans."
So, is anyone else feeling the Kira/Percival Westmorland connection here?
Hi everyone! I hope this is the right place to post this. One of my roommates acquired two female spiny mice a couple of months ago, and they were both pregnant when she got them. One of the litters is now old enough to be separated, and she only has one male, which she wants to rehome. I offered to take him in if she can't find any better options, but have no experience with pet spiny mice, or even mice in general (however I do have experience with pet rats).
I was wondering if anyone here could provide some information on how to care for them? I'm having a really difficult time finding helpful sources and want to make sure I'm prepared if I find myself caring for the little guy.
My main questions are what sort of housing to provide and how to deal with him being alone. I was planning on setting up a bin cage, but read that they can chew through plastic easily. Is this a common problem? And obtaining another male would be challenging at the moment, so how could I keep him as happy as possible? I know I need to provide lots of toys and enrichment within the enclosure, but is there anything else I could do? My roommate says the other litter might have a male, so I could potentially get him a cagemate in a few weeks, but there's no guarantee.
Thanks for the help!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
A while past the woods at the edge of town is a demon made of marble and stone. She has no tongue; she has no face. That was because the demon of the little town of Wilkins was a museum, and in the Summer of 1984, she was calling to me.
During my stay as a teacher at River Valley Elementary, a time that the place beyond the woods was yet to be named, I was oblivious to the shadow she cast over our small town. And back then, the museum was only spoken of quietly, if at all, cast only into the wind by wet lips carrying playground rumors, never to be heard of again until months later when the mantises would take flight around town, or when somebody went missing.
I didnโt believe in the living, breathing flavor of demons, at least I didnโt back then. I believed in the demons inside of my fatherโs whiskey bottle, the demons that poured out and burned at his throat, those that swelled into his fist and bloomed. Those that merely showed a glimpse of their painful, plum-colored skin upon my motherโs eyes and cheeks before cowering away into the glass genie lamp from whence they came. I remembered those demons, and once my father had passed away, once I caved to their whispering pestilence and drank from the lamp just as he once did, they too soon remembered me.
My father wasnโt all bad, though, God-donโt-bless-his-soul. He was always an angel to my sister and I, his two star girls, if he could never treat mother the same. You could never be a princess, he would say, despite my protesting six-year-old pout. You will be a queen.
And when he spoke, his smile and giggle made me forget about what he did to mother, and the genies in his desk drawer and upon his shelf.
I guess we share those two burdens: A full-hearted compassion for the whiskey bottle, and for children.
Though, I could never have my own, of course, the world was too broken for that, too untrustworthy.
My students and nephews were my children.
I was at my sisterโs place visiting them when I told her I was being transferred to Wilkins to teach. And well, it didnโt take things long to fire up.
โItโs not just that, Mariette, itโs everything, the men, the constant moving around, youโre a rolling stone. Youโre right - you should ground yourself, have some of your own.โ She said.
We argued for a while, as we so often did, but this time was different. She told me that I was getting older, that the big three-zero was in my rear-view mirror. I told her that she had a pompous stick-up-her-a

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

โNo, nothing invasive,โ Sergei said, โHeโฆ itโs a class 1 sentient being. If you wouldnโt do it to a human being, you shouldnโt do it to Alby.โ
โYou donโt actually know that though, do you Serg.โ Dr Davies replied, he was fiddling with a microscope which wouldnโt focus, and hadn't focused properly for quite some time.
โPrint a new one.โ
โHuh?โ
โDavies, if you took your head out of the work for five seconds youโd realize that weโve just switched to Open Culture.โ
โNo kidding?โ
Sergei nodded, Davies stopped trying to fix the microscope and sent a message to have a new one fabricated at the manufactury.
โWell, shit. That changes a few things. We should have a meeting or something.โ
Sergei watched, amused, at the expressions passing over the younger doctor's face. He was a brilliant man, hampered thus far by the economy theyโd found themselves in. Possibilities, thatโs what they had now, no more compromises.
โAgain, Davies, check your damned emails. Meeting was yesterday.โ
The man threw himself on his bed clothed couch. Alby was in what was once the bedroom, after his refusal to go to a โlaboratoryโ theyโd slowly constructed one around him instead. Either he hadnโt noticed, or his thinking was overly symbolic in that heโd happily sit in a lab so long as it was never referred to as a lab.
โFutureโs bright.โ Davies said.
Sergei pinched the bridge of his nose. โAgain, you need to check your emails.โ
โWhat?โ
โOh, a hundred plus warships in the system. I think our cousins from earth have caused some sort of incident.โ
โAh. Well thereโs nothing we can do about that.โ
โDoctors!โ Albyโs reedy call came from the bedroom. โHelp.โ
โIโll go, you check up on current events,โ Sergei said.
He rose to his feet, snatched up a bottle of general purpose fungicide and headed into the bedroom. Alby was on a chair, as if afraid of a mouse. He was wearing clothes now, though he was not embarrassed of his body, it was merely a technique to blend in to the crowd so he could be moved in plain sight. Not that they were able to do that anymore because of the invading mat of mold fibres.
โAlby, where is it?โ
โThere, Sergei. Itโs coming in the corner.โ
In the corner of the room, where the walls met in an imperfect seam, two white tendrils were slowly winding their way blindly across the floor. Sergei sprayed them with

>โMedium spiny neurons (MSNs), also known as spiny projection neurons (SPNs), are a special type of GABAergic inhibitory cell representing 95% of neurons within the human striatum, a basal ganglia structure.[1] Medium spiny neurons have two primary phenotypes (characteristic types): D1-type MSNs of the direct pathway and D2-type MSNs of the indirect pathway.[1][2][3] Most striatal MSNs contain only D1-type or D2-type dopamine receptors, but a subpopulation of MSNs exhibit both phenotypes.โ (From Wiki)
>โThe firing activity of the main striatal neuron class, the โmedium spiny projection neurons,โ is highly regulated in adults. Despite exhibiting rich near-threshold activity (โUP statesโ) driven by excitatory cortical inputs, these neurons are usually silent. It seems likely that medium spiny neurons filter out uncorrelated afferent activity and fire only in response to precisely synchronized inputs.โ
THC, D1-D2 Heteromers & MSNs
โThis study highlights intriguing discoveries relevant to dopamine receptor signaling and cannabinoid-induced neuroadaptive changes in primate basal ganglia. (1) We provide abundant morphological evidence that dopamine D1 and D2 receptors form complexes in the dorsal striatum and NAc of mammalian species, including mouse, rat, nonhuman primate and human. Evolutionary differences were noted in the expression of dopamine D1-D2 heteromers, with heteromer abundance in the order human > primate > rat > mouse. In all these species, a higher number of MSNs expressing the D1-D2 heteromer was observed in the ventral striatum (i.e., NAc) than in the dorsal striatum. (2) THC increased the number of neurons expressing the D1-D2 heteromer in both regions of the striatum of nonhuman primate brain after chronic administration, from 35% or less, to approximately 80%, together with a 3-fold increase of heteromer density within individual neurons. (3) The chronic low-dose THC regimen led to a phenotypic change in MSNs indicating a reprogramming of these MSNs to co-express the characteristic markers of both striatonigral and striatopallidal neurons together with co-expression of D1 and D2 receptors.โ
MSNs & the thalamocortical loop
