She’s lying
belly-down
on her zebra-striped bed sheets -
wearing jungle jewellery
and sucking sherbert lemons.
We consume
technicolour cartoons
and wildlife documentaries,
until my face
ends up
between her thighs.
She moans...
about her boyfriend
and how he’s a narcissist.
I say
she’s even worse.
He phones...
begging her to come over.
So she slips
leopard-print lingerie
over her perfect body,
then spins for me.
Now, she’s dissolving
into the night
and I still can’t figure out
whether I love her
or just want to be her.

Having this information in a clear, accessible place is a literal lifesaver. It turns the panic of finding a vet into an action plan with all of the information ready to go, thus saving on precious minutrs. I recommend framing it in a visible place, such as near the pets cage, so it has a dedicated place and everyone knows it's there in case of an emergency. Include both a regular hours veterinarian and an emergency one so you are ready 24/7. Additionally, please take the time to actually drive to this location before an emergency so you can have a sense of directions ahead of time.
I wish I had done this before my pet parakeet passed since I was an absolute mess trying to find an after hours vet that treated birds. I feel guilty and heartbroken that Ace's last moments were with me crying and flying down the street lost. Since then, my boyfriend has researched and printed out the information for our nearest aviation vets for every place we've lived at. It is framed next to my bird cage and can easily be removed and taken with us so we have the address and number out and ready.
TLDR: Print and frame veterinarian information in case of an emergency.
