A list of puns related to "Tea Parlor"
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 45%. (I'm a bot)
> TAIPEI - Over 600,000 people on Thursday received a text message advising them to monitor themselves for any symptoms of the coronavirus because they live or work near a cluster of infections associated with tea parlors in Taipei's red-light district.
> On Thursday, Taiwan's health minister and Central Epidemic Command Center head Chen Shih-chung announced 13 new local cases of COVID-19, including nine tied to the Lions Club cluster, one of unknown origin, and three women who work as hostesses in tea parlors in Taipei's Wanhua District.
> The new cases bring the total number of persons tied to the tea parlor cluster infection to seven.
> At 2 p.m., the CECC sent a text message to over 600,000 people who are registered to residences or businesses in areas of Wanhua where the women were believed to have visited during their infectious period.
> Chen stressed that the messages were sent to numbers affiliated with homes and businesses and are not targeted at specific individuals.
> That same day, the CECC also released a detailed list of all the locations where the cases associated with the tea parlors had gone from May 1 to May 12.

Black Baccara was the second indie perfume house I tried. I love the gothic, Victorian aesthetic.
Order Experience - The website, scent descriptions and catalog were really easy to navigate as a newb. There's a master list with links to each perfume's page. I ordered the 5 piece custom sample set and chose a free sample on the checkout page. It was $20 plus $3.98 shipping to the US. Unfortunately, the sample set is currently sold out due to high order volume.
TAT - Fast. The shipping label was created 4 business days after I ordered and it arrived 3 days later (excluding Sunday) via USPS from across the country. The TAT is clearly stated at the top of the site.
Packaging - Beautiful. The custom sample set comes in a tin box and contains 1ml glass vials with pretty, paper labels that completely wrap around the vial and stick out.
Throw & Longevity - Most scents had lower throw and longevity (not something I mind), except for Lilith's Parlor and Salome, which were pretty strong, on par with some things I've tried from Alkemia, Fantome and Poesie.
Skin Chemistry - Perfumes pretty much smell the same on me as they smell on paper. There are subtle differences sometimes, which I'll note, but I've never smelled anything on my skin that I haven't also picked up on paper. It mostly just gets a tiny bit richer if anything. The only big difference is that sweet scents tend to cook or caramelize on my skin, but I think that's due to body heat. It's fine in most cases but can be weird with fruit.
My Nose - It's rare that I like a perfume and when I do I can still totally see why someone else wouldn't like it. Sometimes I'll really like something but then one note will randomly annoy me to the point of sensory overload and it's usually a texture issue. Alcohol-based perfumes are too strong for me when I'm at home but I like them when I'm out and about.
I'm trying to write my thesis. You're trying to write your thesis. Why not write together and share a large pot of tea?
I'm envisioning the world's lamest, tamest meetup. We could meet at a tea parlor (I'm partial to Bosie's) and take turns picking large pots of tea to share as we type away on our laptops. We could order our own separate small pots, but it'd be more economical and more fun take turns ordering large pots.
If anyone is interested, then post a comment so that I and others can see. I plan to be at Bosie's around 2:00 pm. I'll be the guy with a NASA baseball cap and a laptop. Say hello, I'll say hello back and invite you to sit, and then start writing—that's it! Unlike most meetups, the point wouldn't be to socialize. The point would simply be to share tea and get work done.
Oh, and if the waiter/waitress asks, we're together but with separate checks. That way they'll know we intend to share tea and we don't have to do any accounting as a group. :)
In summary...
So basically, it's a mostly impromptu "study party" for introverted grad students in NYC. It sounds nice to me, so I figured it might sound nice to some of you too.
Update: Nobody showed up, which I figured was the most likely way the day would go. It was super last-minute, after all. However, I'm definitely surprised and pleased to see the amount of interest. Maybe it's worth another try! I'm currently scrambling to finish my thesis, so I might go back tomorrow.
Update 2: This could become a recurring thing in multiple cities!
I recently had a really strange experience at a local Atlanta tea parlor. Basically, I walked in and tried to get a pot of tea to just sit with for a while, but was berated by the owner for not having a reservation and ultimately asked to leave without being permitted to order--but no customers were in there. The place was deserted. I was perfectly polite the whole time, so I was pretty bewildered to essentially be kicked out.
Today, out of curiosity, I looked up some online reviews to see if other people had a better experience there than I did, and holy shit, they are so entertaining. It turns out the owner does stuff like this all the time (behaving really strangely to customers and people trying to be customers), and the best part is that she responds to every single negative review on Google with a lengthy wall of defensive text explaining "her side of the story." She even responds to ratings that have no review attached with passive-aggressive comments. I've genuinely never seen anything like this, and I highly recommend grabbing some popcorn and scrolling through.
Google reviews don't seem to support direct links, but you can search for "Tipple and Rose Tea Parlor reviews". Yelp reviews (which sadly do not support owner replies, but still help paint a picture) are here. Enjoy, and you're welcome.
UPDATE: Still planning on going, our group is smaller, so we canceled the reservation. This means that we may possibly have to wait for a table, but it also means that we aren't limited to getting the tea service if you want something different/cheaper.
I've organized a meet up on the nycredditgirlfriends Discord for this Sunday, and have three open spots for any other interested women! Let me know if you want to join us!
We have a reservation for 8 people at Bosie Tea Parlor at 2pm on Sunday, May 20th. We'll be getting the standard tea service, which is $34/person plus tax and tip. Please bring cash or be prepared to use Venmo/Zelle, as it's going to be the easiest way to split the bill.
Note that I'm looking for firm RSVPs, as I've already had to put down a $15/person deposit and any cancellations must be made at least two hours in advance. Priority goes to people who are willing to send me $15 via Venmo/PayPal/Zelle to hold their place (this will count towards your final total for the meal), but since I know I'm an internet stranger, I'm not requiring that. Just please be sure to let me know by 9am Sunday if you are going to have to cancel!
I find myself desperately needing to write up some research. When I'm in lab, it's hard to be productive because people stick their heads in my office to ask questions and it takes me a while to get back into the writing zone. At home, it's hard to be productive because I've associated my couch with "not working".
Do you have any favorite places to go and sit for a few hours and work? Are there any places that are open late-ish?
Also, are there pieces of coffee shop writing etiquette I should know? (I know it's poor form to monopolize a table during busy hours, and I know it's poor form to take up space for hours without regularly buying food/drinks. But is there anything else?)
