A list of puns related to "Motor Vehicle Theft"
Motor vehicle thefts came up in another thread, so I check where Iowa sat in national comparison. I was a surprised where Iowa sitsβ¦.
Also, Colorado is the winner, winner chicken dinner. That surprised me, as I have been to Albuquerque.

It seems like I get one of these emails like once a week these days. Whatβs up with people being so crappy? Are car jacking just like the norm in EL? (Oos sophomore whose only been on campus once, I donβt plan to bring a car lol)
Wage theft and weaker enforcement of labor standards Many workers, particularly low-wage workers and the women and men of color who are disproportionately in this category, frequently fail to receive the wages they are owed.31 This is referred to as βwage theftβ and reflects workers being paid below the minimum wage, not being paid for all hours worked, not being paid time-and-a-half though legally eligible for overtime, experiencing illegal deductions from pay, and having their tips stolen by employers or supervisors. A recent example involved Amazon, which agreed to pay the Federal Trade Commission $61.7 million because it shorted its drivers tips over a two-and-a-half-year period starting in late 2016 (Greene 2021).
How extensive is wage theft? The available information shows the problem is pervasive. The best analysis is from a 2008 study of 4,387 workers in low-wage industries in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York; it found that two-thirds of workers surveyed experienced at least one pay-related violation in any given week. The average violation amounted to 15% of earnings (Bernhardt, Milkman, and Theodore 2009).
Another study (Cooper and Kroeger 2017) examined the wage theft affecting minimum wage workers in the 10 most populous states (accounting for more than half the national workforce); it found that total wages stolen from workers due to minimum wage violations alone exceeds $15 billion annually on a national basis. The average minimum wage violation amounted to $64 per week or $3,300 per year for a year-round workerβnearly a quarter of the workerβs earned wagesβand affected 17% of low-wage workers. The authors detail who was affected:
Young workers, women, people of color, and immigrant workers are more likely than other workers to report being paid less than the minimum wage, but this is primarily because they are also more likely than other workers to be in low-wage jobs. In general, low-wage workers experience minimum wage violations at high rates across demographic categories. In fact, the majority of workers with reported wages below the minimum wage are over 25 and are native-born U.S. citizens, nearly half are white, more than a quarter have children, and just over half work full time.
A back-of-the-envelope estimate, extrapolating from the Bernhardt, Milkman, and Theodore (2009) study, suggests that by 2016 aggregate wage theft was on the order of $52 billion annually (McNicholas, Mokhiber, and Chaikof 2017). This estimate doe
... keep reading on reddit β‘Over the course of the long weekend, we received reports of 21 incidents of theft from motor vehicles throughout Victoria and Esquimalt.
Please remember to lock your vehicle and remove valuables or place them out of sight. A locked door is a simple deterrent to make your vehicle a more difficult target to thieves. If you canβt take items with you, secure them in a safe place such as a locked glove compartment or the trunk.
When someone sees a backpack, laptop bag, GPS mount or a power plug it indicates there may be a pricey possession such as a tablet, laptop, GPS unit, MP3 player or a cell phone available to steal. Golf clubs, designer purses and personal electronics can be easily sold on online marketplaces and are very attractive to thieves.
If you have information about these incidents, or see someone suspicious in your area, please call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654 and then talk with your neighbours on your block. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
In the event that youβre victimized, please report it to us by either calling 250-995-7654 or report it online at https://vicpd.ca/reportcrimeonline

Judge: "This is a serious charge, young man. How do you plead to these allegations?"
The man whispers something quietly to his lawyer
Lawyer: Are... Are you sure?
Man: Yes, absolutely.
Lawyer: "Your honor, the defendant would like to plead guilty to the charges laid against him."
The judge looks to the man
Judge: "It takes a strong man to own up to his crimes. This is a smart move, son. Those who admit to their crimes are met with a fairer sentence. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders; so, I must ask, why did you steal the car in the first place?"
Man: "My car is out of commission at the moment, and I needed to get to work. I haven't missed a day in my life."
Judge: "I see... Why didn't you just take a bus?"
The courtroom falls into complete and utter silence; everyone listening intently to hear the defendant's response
Man: "Well, your honor, I don't have a driver's license for a bus."
On Friday I walked outside to my motorcycle and noticed that the spark plug boot was removed from the spark plug and from the actual ignition coil wire; like someone actually walked up to my bike, pulled the spark plug boot off of the spark plug, and unthreaded it from the ignition coil. I found it on the ground next to the bike. I saw this as one of two things:
I looked over the bike and it was the only thing that was touched, so I put it back on and made sure I locked the forks so the bike couldn't move.
Today I get home and find my bike laying on its side in the street with gas pouring out of the gas cap, ruining the clearcoat on the tank decals. The way that the bike was parked, it wouldn't have made sense for someone to have backed into it as there's a driveway in front of it with nowhere near enough room to park. Unless someone was backing down Waldeck the wrong way and hit it like that?
I think someone maybe tried to steal it, got pissed that I locked the forks, and threw my bike on the ground. I'll be keeping a close eye on my bike, I can see it from my bedroom and living room windows, but is it worth it to contact the police about this incident? The only reason I could see it being useful is if I catch someone messing with my bike and confront them, but I'm not sure.
According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report, annual motor vehicle thefts have increased from 611,610 in 2014 with an average value of $6,537 per theft to 700,143 at $7,680 per theft in 2016. Murder rates have also been climbing in the past few years. Keep yourself safe by locking your car door when you leave and parking in a well lit and monitored parking area.

Edit: I should also add that many of these thefts are for βcrashβ parts- high demand car parts often damaged in collisions. Bumpers, fenders, wheels, rims, and tailgate weights are all high priced and popular targets.
Hi Reddit,
Last 2015, i decided to get a motor cycle to Motortrade which is Mio sporty. unfortunately after 3 months of paying and using the said motorcycle, i became a victim of robbery (it includes my mobile phone). the saddest part is that it is the the same day that i will be assigned to other area as a field worker. in short, "nawalan po ako ng time na magpa pulis report" ang fault ko din po is natakot din ako that time. i'm only 21 years old. after a month i returned to Motortrade to ask if what can i do or any suggestion what will happen. apparently, the shop is closed and the Netizen around the shop told me that they already moved out. after a week i saw my neighbor to my old apartment and told me that there are demand letters being delivered to my old apartment but being trashed because i'm no longer living there. due to my fears, "hinayan ko nalang".
Question:
As of today i have a good work and salary. sa tingin ko kaya ko naman ng mangako at unti unti mabayaran yung motor. kung mapapagusapan pa..
Thank you.
