I have less than $10k in my name & my friend from high school is an investment banker w/ a million dollar view on the Hudson River.

My friend shared a nice pic from his high res apartment on IG and honestly today was the first time it really hit me that I the opportunity cost of my career decision will seriously hamper my ability to enjoy life until much later.

Anyways, off to the hospital.

Edit: I don't live in NYC FYI. It's the Dirty South for me.

I fell in love with the Hudson River School artists. Their dramatic use of light and representational style of nature I've always wanted to capture. Painting this one, I wanted to go for something as dramatic as possible. It helps when you have snow to add contrast and of course rays of light :)

[Hiring] Oil or acrylic Star Wars landscape/cityscape in the style of the Hudson River School

I'm looking for some art to decorate my home office, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, wanted to get something special and personalized.

  • Medium: oil or acrylic painting, or any other similar looking physical medium
  • Content: Star Wars landscape or cityscape. I'm flexible on the exact subject, and would like to work with the artist to choose a subject that they're excited about and confident they can do well. Including some people/aliens, spaceships, vehicles, or especially architectural detail is great, as long as the overall feel of the painting is still broad like a landscape with architectural elements, not focused like a portrait.
  • Size: at least 10 inch by 8 inch. Realistically the maximum size will be determined by my budget, not my wall, but probably not more than 30x15. Within budget constraints though, bigger is better on the margin. Maybe 20x12 inches is a rough ballpark? Any aspect ratio is fine.
  • Purpose: home decoration, show off to other nerd friends :)
  • Timeline: I have no hard constraint here, but presumably I will enjoy the end result so getting it sooner rather than later is nice. Is three months reasonable? This can be flexible.
  • Budget: Ideally $500 USD or less, but to be honest I don't have a lot of experience commissioning physical art so if it turns out that's totally unreasonable for the kind of painting I have in mind, I can adjust budget and/or specifications a bit.
  • Other notes: I really like viewing the slight 3 dimensionality of paint in physical paintings. On the other hand, I don't really like it when the texture of the canvas or underlying material shows through. I like detail in painting, something you can look at many times and always notice something new.

I've gathered a collection of images illustrating the style and content I'm interested in. The first time I posted this the spam filter ate it because of the pinterest link, so either DM me for the actual link or look for the pinterest board under username tarrosion with name painting-commission. Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully the spam filter doesn't kill this post too :/

Let me know if you'd be interested in this project--looking forward to hearing!

Edit: thank you to all the artists who have responded. I've enjoyed looking at your portfolios and will follow up with some folks.

A bit of context here: 21F in LES with a new puppy. I started taking her to the Hudson River on the weekends to get a break from the city. She likes to run, which is easier w less people around. But since the sun sets at 5:30 ish now I’m worried it’s unsafe for me to start going there after dark. What do you guys think? Do you recommend any safer alternatives here in the city?

I am dying a lot, also, just..Hudson River School anyone?

I just started chapter 2, I die a lot. No wait, start here.

I just bought the game, on sale xbox gold thing, but I've been eyeing it and lurking here for about a year. I havent really played any games seriously in about 15 years, I'm middle aged. I'm, apparently, not very good. I die a lot. I die when a cougar jumps me, I die trying to jump into a wagon to save someone, I die riding my horse into a tree. Are the early deaths pretty normal?

The other thing is that I am a sucker for the Hudson River School. It stirs a drive to adventure in me that is unstoppable. I spent a lot of time growing up out west, epic and grand vistas, places to roam, things were less big than they seem to be now, a reflection of the game. This game seems to really resonate with me in a way I suspected all along but surely did not expect to be this strong. So when I finish the snowy beginner level and start our trip to the Heartland, am I stupid for getting a little teary eyed? I mean what the absolute hell man...its a stupid video game... grrr... I mean, I'm alone on this one arent I?

OA with Hudson River Trading and preparation

I have an OA with HRT in C++. I've never done an OA before so I don't know what to expect, is it just LC problems? Is the code evaluated or is it just ran on some test cases?

Any advice on how to prepare for the rest of the interview process would be appreciated too, do I need ro know the ins and outs of C++ or just how to use it to solve LC?

Thanks!

Update:

Took the OA, only two questions with 140 minutes:

First question was a freebie, given a string with only A, B, C or D, remove adjacents A and Bs and remove adjacent C and Ds so 'ABACD' becomes 'ACD' becomes 'A'.

The second one was kinda tough, if you wanna look for it on Google, it was longest path in alternating tree. Basically, you got a tree with only 'a' or 'b' as values. Find the longest alternating path inside the tree. The hard path was that the path might connect two subpath through a common parent or it might not go through the root. I solved it with dynamic programming but it took most of the time.

[HIRING] Oil/acrylic painting of a Star Wars landscape or cityscape with style similar to the Hudson River School

I'm looking for some art to decorate my home office, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, figured why not lean into that? I've put together a Pinterest board with both sections for both style and content inspiration. Most of the pictures in the "content inspiration" section are also stylistically relevant to what I'm hoping for.

  • Size: at least 8 inch by 10 inch. Realistically the maximum size will be determined by my budget, not my wall, but probably not more than 15x30. Within budget constraints though, bigger is better on the margin. Maybe 12x20 inches is a rough ballpark?
  • Purpose: home decoration, show off to other nerd friends :)
  • Timeline: I have no hard constraint here, but presumably I will enjoy the end result so getting it sooner rather than later is nice. Is three months reasonable? This can be flexible.
