A list of puns related to "Garbage Disposal"
Our house is getting old, and over the weekend the garbage disposal (a 1/3 hp Insinkerator with a 1 year warranty, 12 years past expiration) started leaking water out of the bottom of the unit into the cabinet.
I watched a youtube video, and went and bought a replacement (a 3/4 HP unit with a 6 year warranty). When I got home and started the disassembly I realized the contractor had glued the drain tube from the disposal to the PVC drain pipe, so I had to get replacement PVC bits (Charlotte pipe and fittings) and some glue. I put them in, wired in the new unit, and... it works!
It was a fun project, and now I can do another thing I'd never done before. Pretty happy with myself. This project was very doable if you find that you need to do it.
Hello, I (21F) am new to this sub because I am looking for some help. I live in an apartment but I have to take care of things like this myself.
I am switching out the garbage disposal with an identical replacement. I can swap out the dishwasher hose no problem, but I'm not sure how to handle the wiring situation with the disposal. The current wire goes into the wall under the sink. I've linked a few pics below.
If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it! I live alone & didn't grow up around anyone who knew how to fix anything, so I'm trying to learn as best as I can lol. Thanks in advance
My fiance's dad is a handyman (not a professional electrician, just kinda does a little of everything) and he is installing our garbage disposal. He's hardwiring it so that it shares a circuit with the dishwasher. It's a 15 amp circuit and he said we should probably be fine as long as we don't run the disposal while the dishwasher is on. Is this true? Would irreversible damage happen if we accidentally turned the garbage disposal on while the dishwasher was running? Is this a fire risk?
I'm asking you guys because I dont want to question my future FIL's intelligence or insult him. It just seems sketchy to me. From what I see online, sharing a 20 amp would be no problem, but I can't find anything about sharing a 15 amp.
Only just recently got a positive test. I haven't even had a Doctors appointment yet.
I am OBSESSED with food. I could hoover down everything in sight. I woke up from a nap today in a panic thinking I had ordered food and missed the delivery person.
I feel like a mad woman.
So lets say its about 100 something rocks, and you cant use your vaccum. (Edit lets say your also in a hotel, and your a child)
Theyβre quiet, clean, and donβt require electricity. If you live in a warm climate where they abound, they can be had for free simply by leaving out some rotting fruit. And theyβre much lower maintenance than, say, the Vitamix FoodCycler ($400? Yikes!).
I just love how I can throw pretty much any kind of organic waste in with my larvae and know theyβll decimate it overnight. Itβs like throwing your food scraps into a blackhole. (Onions and hard vegetables, like raw carrots, are the only exceptions Iβve found so far.)
And itβs not just fruits and veggies. Iβve thrown in a handful of cooked rice, crunchy bits of french fry, even some bloated dog kibble that had gone bad. Iβve also heard that they love duckweed, so anyone whose pond or aquarium is overrun can benefit from teaming up with them, as well.
I wish using BSFL to minimize food waste were normalized. A family of four, for example, could definitely create enough scraps to keep a small army of larvae well-fed. And instead of scraping off the leftover food from customersβ plates directly into the garbage, restaurants could gather and toss them into a larvae bin during closing.
They might not be the cutest thing out there, but they donβt bite. And as adults, they donβt spread disease the way regular flies do.
BSFL are also a step up from vermiculture in terms of efficiency. Worms and their castings are fantastic, but they donβt thrive in heat they way BSFL do. Theyβre picky eaters. They donβt work as quickly. And they hang around, while BSF eventually leave to transform into flies.
I started raising BSFL to redirect my scraps away from the landfill, reduce carbon emissions, and prevent my trash from stinking. Plus, their voracious eating goes some way into assuaging my guilt for letting food expire in the fridge. But I imagine that these larvae are invaluble to anyone raising chicken, pigs, fish, lizards, or certain other critters. (I once caught a frog hanging around my BSFL, probably hoping to snag a high-protein snack.)
And should the occasion ever arise, I am sure the BSFL would be ace at taking care of roadkill.
Thank you for reading my excited/positive rant about why black soldier fly larvae are awesome. Having them around is such a satisfying win-win. I hope it inspires at least one other person to raise them. For those living in the States, this is the perfect time of year to start!
(Are there any regions where BSFL are never found, besides in very cold climates? And does anyo

I'm from the UK and they terrify the crap out of me. As far as I can tell they are basically just angry sinks that could take your fingers off?? Where does all the waste go? Does it go to some sort of tank that you need to empty? Or does it go into some sort of central sewer network? And are there rules on what you can and can't put down there?
I'm British. Those things aren't seen in these parts. What do they do? Chew up food? Is it good for the drains? Why don't you just scrape it into the trash? What are they!?
Im from europe and ive seen garbage disposals in shows and movies from the US. What are they exactly, what do they do? And why are they always portrated as being extremely dangerous? Why dont we have them in europe? Are we missing out?
So our kitchen sink had a little gnat/fruit fly problem. They were coming from the garbage disposal side of the sink. So I put a mixture of vinegar and baking soda down the drain and covered it up. I let that sit for a bout an hour and then ran hot water through the drain for 5 minutes. The fruit flies are all gone. But there is a weird smell coming from the drains now. It's not like a bad old garbage type smell but it's somewhat pungent. I am guessing it has something to do with the baking soda/vinegar solution I used. It's been about 24 hours now and you can still smell it right away when going into the kitchen.
Any advice on what to do???
We hired someone to come install floors and I wanted it done under our dishwasher. Our current dishwasher is 15+ years old so we're looking to replace it. I ripped it out tonight and am expecting a new one in 3-4 weeks. Is there something I can use or buy to temporarily block the drain that would come from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal? Right now I'm just using some tape https://i.imgur.com/rtcsakA.jpg
I just have one that plugs into the wall so I don't know that I need to mess with the wiring on the new garbage disposal itself. I mean messing with this area, would be great if I don't have to:

Replaced switch and rewired exactly how I found it, but it doesn't work. Here is a image of the box:

There is power on the white wire, but not the black. Gfi on the right is powered fine. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? The dishwasher is also not getting power ( using same outlet under sink)
Edit: there is always a possibility I missed a wire. Or it disconnected when I pulled these out. As it might be the case. What is the routing solution here to fix it?
In the Scam Home Warranty business, the people are represented by two separate but equally lazy groups: The Authorization agents, who deny claims and smoke like chimneys, and the technicians who lie through their teeth to snag a few extra bucks. These are their stories CLICK CLICK
(background) Do you own a garbage disposal? It's probably a 1/2 hp model, continuous feed Badger 5. 99 times out of 100 that's the case. Because it's such a common part, many plumbers will keep one or more in the truck. All the requisite policy stuff applies: no rust, corrosion, not-normal ect. However, many techs have a guide price setup where the billable to SHW is under $150 for a total of around $200 for the job. Unless it's the first week of the policy or this is a problem customer throwing claims at us or if the tech is being shady or they hand us a denial on a silver platter, then most guys in auth will cover it without a second thought.
The menu price was too good to be true. Hastily I demanded 5 of the $4 fajitas off of ubereats and sat in anticipation while the phone rang.
Much later in the day than expected my lunch arrived.
While the smell was right, the size of the bag was not.
Opening it up before the front desk lady had even left our row, I was dejected to find a couple crumpled aluminum foil wrapped fajitas smaller than a hotdog.
The tortillas were comically small, the slices of steak were enormous but that only meant a single one in each and they were bursting to the brim with onions and tomato's, something I had specifically asked to have removed.
I answered the phone and started to pick out the errant toppings.
Me: βSHW themadkingnqueen here do you have a claim number?β
Tech: β#β
Me: βOk, so are you Smith's Plumbing of New Mexico?β
Tech: βYes, I'm at the customer's house.β
Me: βDo we have a disposal then?β
Tech: βYep.β
Me: βI'm assuming it's a Badger 5?"
Tech: βSure is.β
Me: βKnow how old it is?β
Tech: βAlmost 10 years.β
Me: βIs it rusty or something?β
Tech: βNo rust on it.β
Me: βWhat is the failure then?β
Tech: βBlade got loose and ripped into the side.β
Me: βHow did that happen?β
Tech: βSpoon got lodged in there. Was still wedged pretty bad when I got here, they didn't try fishing it out just called you guys right away.β
Me: βAny other damage to the plumbing or just this unit?β
Tech: βJust the disposal got ruined.β
Me: βCan I get a quote on a repair then?β
Tech: βI have a guide price to get this done for $225.β
Me: βCustomer
... keep reading on reddit β‘Sorry if this has been posted before, but I keep seeing a lot of complaints about not being able to delete items in games. I have a reinforced chest in which we put items we donβt want (basically a trash can) and when it gets full I take it all to a nearby Burial Chamber and just throw it all inside. All the stuff disappears really quickly since no one interacts with it. Just thought Iβd share :)
