A list of puns related to "Federal Trade Commission"
Consumer fraud is commonly defined as deceptive business practices that cause consumers to suffer financial or other losses. The victims believe they are participating in a legal and valid business transaction when they are actually being defrauded. Fraud against consumers is often related to false promises or inaccurate claims made to consumers, as well as practices that directly cheat consumers out of their money.
Many of us have not received (nor will we) a Rak miner. Additionally our attempts at receiving a refund for months have not worked. The last step is charging back the initial purchase with our credit card company, which many of us or trying as a last resort. My hope is if enough of us report Calchip to the Federal Trade Commission they will take notice and open an investigation into the company. The report can be done in 5ish minutes. Help protect the helium community and file a report. Thanks! https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant?pid=A

Weβre the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nationβs consumer protection agency here to talk about student loan repayment scams. Today weβre joined by Michelle Grajales, a staff attorney specializing in debt relief from our Bureau of Consumer Protection.
Weβll also have questions answered by Colleen Campbell, a program manager, and Travis Sturlaugson, a management and program analyst, who both specialize in federal student loan programs, repayment, and servicing from the Policy Implementation and Oversight directorate at Federal Student Aid (FSA). Last but not least, weβll have Betsy Mayotte, President at The Institute of Student Loan Advisors (TISLA), a non-profit that provides free advice on managing your student loans. Betsy has worked in the student loan industry doing compliance and advocacy work for over 20 years.
Weβre excited to be here. In the last five years, the FTC has shut down more than 15 of these scam companies and gotten nearly $300 million in monetary judgments.
We know there has been a lot of talk lately about student loan debt forgiveness. There are legitimate ways to get your loans forgiven or lower your monthly payments, but there are also a lot of scammers out there that leave people in even more debt. The biggest thing to know is this: thereβs nothing a company can do for you that you canβt do for yourself for free.
If you have federal loans, you can learn more about your options at StudentAid.gov/repay or by contacting federal student loan servicer. If you have private loans, contact your loan servicer directly. If you donβt know who your private student loan servicer is, look at a recent billing statement.
Weβll be taking your questions on May 19 from 1-2pm EST.

3 Signs of a Prize Scam
Who doesnβt dream of winning a lot of money or a big prize? Thatβs why scammers still use the promise of a prize to get your money or personal information. The good news is that there are ways to tell youβre dealing with a scam.
Here are three signs of a prize scam:
I know that petitions rarely get traction, most fizzle out, but we have to try something to stop carriers from bullying Samsung and other OEMs to preinstall software and limit features.

--- From the Petition:
As the importance of technology grows in our daily lives, it is ever more clear that unimpeded access to it is a fundamental human right. This includes all-encompassing elements of an individual's right to everything surrounding a device they wholly own. Carriers have been involved in manufacturer's affairs since the telephone's inception. Now that we have smartphones, this link can be disruptive on some devices, such as Samsung phones, where carriers hold bargaining power over every device, unlocked or not. To the Federal Trade Commission, it is time that rules are put in place to limit a carrier's ability to interfere with unlocked devices that are wholly owned by a consumer. Carriers hold all of the bargaining power, and that must be taken away.
While some manufacturers, like Apple, have escaped the collective bargaining present under carriers, others have not. This only hurts the consumer. For a more free-market and for consumer rights, we must act.
