A list of puns related to "Facial Gesture"
Today I noticed something and that is how unsettling otherwise positive expressions are to me, such as smiles, laughter, encouragement, positive body language. Iβm not sure if Iβm just overly-sensitive to fake smiles and friendliness or not able to read them properly anymore, whether real or fake.
The bullying I went through many years ago was heavily marked by gaslighting, meaning my bullies were never outwardly hostile to me. But they still nearly drowned me in the end. A lot of pretend friendliness was used to lure me into their stupid traps. Make me feel safe, then pull the rug from under me.
Now, Iβm starting to think that especially friendly strangers or acquainances send me spiralling, because Iβm not sure whether to trust them and then boom, hypervigilance pretty much all the time.
Can anyone relate to this?
If you noticed that an avatar you made is having a problem with facial gestures sticking, here's a quick solution:
First, make an animation for your All-Parts layer in your FX controller that contains all of the Blendshapes for your facial expressions set to 0. If it isn't the only animation in the layer, right-click it and select "Set as Layer Default State." Ensure the animation has "Write-Defaults" set as active in the inspector tab. Then, in both of your FX hand gesture layers, make sure the default state doesn't contain an animation and has "Write-Defaults" set as active.
I know VRChat's documentation and some popular avatar creators suggest not to use Write-Defaults, but I've found the setting to be really helpful when using it on facial animations alone.
Hope this helps!
I was wondering if anyone else experiences this? In my head whenever I make a facial expression, gesture, body language, etc I imagine it looking a certain way. Yesterday I was in a zoom meeting (my video was on) that was recorded, and after it was done I watched the recording of it. I was so surprised and a little bit in shock at how different I look when I'm talking, compared to what I imagined it looking like in my head. Like, my body language is way different. The way I move my hands and my face is nothing like I imagined...
I thought maybe it was just one of those things that all humans experience, but when I tried to find information about it I didn't find any... so is it something that happens because I'm autistic? Does anyone else experience this?
The New South Wales State Government (Australia) is changing the law to use an affirmative consent model ("Accused must prove consent through words, facial expression or gesture under new laws").
> Sexual consent laws in NSW will be overhauled to require a person to show they took active steps to find out if a person consented to sex before they can rely in court on a mistaken but reasonable belief in consent. > > NSW will amend its sexual assault laws to mirror changes in Tasmania, where the criminal law explicitly states a person does not consent to sex if they do not βsay or do anything to communicate consentβ. Similar laws exist in Victoria. > > Under the affirmative consent model, an accused will have to show they did or said something to find out if a person was consenting to sex if they want to rely on a mistaken but reasonable belief that there was consent. > > ... > > The prosecution still bears the onus of proving to a jury beyond reasonable doubt the three elements of an alleged sexual assault, namely that the sexual conduct occurred, that the complainant did not consent and that an accused knew a person did not consent.
A few questions:
Ok so...I haven't been formally diagnosed with ASD but I do have brain damage and a severe nonverbal learning disability with ASD traits. I understand facial expressions and body gestures well, but I can't make them myself! No one understands this...not even me. It extends from not being able to smile for a picture when asked because I don't know what a smile looks/feels like to not being able to do actions like the "come here" gesture correctly, and being completely lost when I'm asked to look or act a certain way...a huge disadvantage because I'm currently taking an acting class that I have to pass. Just to clarify, I think I have a normal-ish range of facial expression when I'm just talking to someone, but I have huge difficulty imitating. Anyone here in the same boat?
Now and then, I have to communicate with people who speak little or no English, which is my only language. Some were born in distant lands, and came to the US as adults. It seems to me that they invariably understand a wide variety of my facial expressions and gestures, and I understand theirs, too. These include nuanced gestures and expressions that convey subtle meanings. Are these a kind of language that is kinda sorta universal? Is it possible that there is some kind of innate human capacity to learn these easily and quickly?
Not sure if this is a common issue or not.
I purchased an avatar last night, uploaded, everything is fine. I get in game, and I can see my hand gestures but not facial expressions. I thought maybe she didn't have any, but my boyfriend said he was able to see my expressions change with my gestures just fine.
We are both on Rift S. I have cleared cache and even tried to re-upload the avatar "as is" (with no edits to the original model) and I still just have a blank expression. We have also switched worlds several times in case for some reason it was a world issue and nothing. Any ideas if there is a fix for this?
Edit: *in the moment
We are back with another fun Human-Computer Interaction tutorial using Computer Vision!

All of us have had those internet breakdown days where there's a lot of time on our hands. You might have stumbled upon chromeβs infamous Dino game that appears on chrome when the internet is not working. If not, try it out now with a new twist - our tutorial.
We use facial expressions to control the dinosaur in the game. The best part is you don't even have to touch the keyboard or mouse while playing the game because of the helpful pyautogui module.
Sounds fun? Jump or crouch to the link below :P
