A list of puns related to "Atchafalaya"
I tried to access this trail yesterday around noon, but all I could find was a big "NO TRESPASSING" sign up on the levee. I did not see any sign that said "Atchafalaya Wilderness Trail" or "trailhead" or "mile 0.0"--nothing. I even went into Pat's to ask them and nobody at the bar had even ever heard of it.
Any clues? This link is to a post from 2017 on a mountain biker site (which depicts a trailhead sign and mile marker):

This excerpt is from the official Louisiana travel and tourism site:
"The Atchafalaya Wilderness Trail is a remote gravel trail that runs on top of the levee for about 55 miles from Henderson, La. (next to Pat's Fisherman's Wharf) through three parishes to Franklin, La."

I find this odd. There's massive flood control structures on the intersection of the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers that redirect water flow towards the Mississippi, so sediment should be redirected through the Mississippi as well. And yet, many coastal areas are shrinking, including the Mississippi River delta, because there's not enough sediment to replenish these areas, while the Atchafalaya River delta has actually grown in size. Why is this? Is the Atchafalaya River delta somehow immune to the rising sea levels that are causing Louisiana's coastlines to shrink, and whwre does the delta get its sediment from despite the flood control structures further up the river?
Yβall.
These people are fucked.
I KNOW the horrors that lurk there - born and raised in New Orleans PLUS Iβve been all up in the damn swamp bayou shit show my entire life (bc βcoon assβ is as Cajun does - if you donβt understand that joke, you have to live it to get it) .... put it this way, the 9th circle of hell is fucking childβs play compared to the deepest parts of the Atchafalaya swamp. BELIEVE ME.
This is the love child of the Amazon and Africa - you got apex predators plus SWARMS of horrible insects that Satan would refer to as βglitter bombsβ ... plus WET WET WET.... and COOOOOLD AF. Iβm serious.
For the first course, we got swarms upon swarms of bugs and insects literally crawling up into these pplβs bodies (I am SERIOUS - they are burrowing into their skin and also, finding the holes... and invasively charging through ) and feasting on them day and night.
Then we got freezing temp drops in nothing but WET. The bone chilling WET. Good luck getting fire going EVER. Good luck with the water log your feet will be falling apart because of.
Ya got gators (ones that arenβt used to seeing boats or people up in their shit, these are fully feral and have zero chill as far as ignoring a human presence - they know nothing of tourism, so weird)...... ALL THE SNAKES.... spiders, nutria (Mattβs penis skin IS BUBBLING bc of contact with nutria feces and Iβm pretty sure heβs going to be forcibly tapped).... yβall this is so fucking gross omg.
60 goddamn days.
Naked.
Afraid.
Fucked.

Iβm wanting to canoe down the Atchafalaya River from Simmesport to Berwick this November (I am well aware thatβs a very long trip, by the way). This will be my first long canoe trip like this, and Iβm at a loss as to how to get myself and my canoe back to Simmesport to retrieve my car. Is there a shuttle service that hauls kayaks & people or something up the river for people doing this? Does Uber have any trailer options? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you much in advance
The basin is massive, and Iβm unfamiliar with the area, so Iβm looking for guidance on the best places to primitive camp, hike, and canoe (all three in one decisive place, hopefully). Iβm hoping for a Sawtooth Loop-type experience, where maybe thereβs a wilderness trail that loops through a good portion of the basin, but the only one I can find is meant for cars, with many stops through civilization. If such a trail doesnβt exist, whereβs the best place in the Basin to simply set up a primitive camp and explore around with a canoe and backpack? Thereβs a ton of options, and if I have to settle on exploring only one portion of the Basin, then I want the absolute coolest swamp scene. Iβm also unfamiliar with the laws and regulations regarding backcountry camping in the Atchafalaya Basin on the off-chance such a legendary trail exists, and google isnβt helping much with that either. Any help is appreciated!
I am making an arrangement of atchafalaya, but I can't figure out the chords and voicings during the guitar solo. Can anybody help?
I make regular trips headed from one side of the state to the other and there is an obvious change once I get across the basin when it comes to observing the mask mandate. It is awful. Even in stores where mask signs are brazenly displayed on the doors the employees inside aren't wearing anything. I drove through today- Rayne this morning and no masks. Lake Charles few masks. And just now in Scott and no masks.
