A list of puns related to "Alcoholic Proof"
Even though my UK driver's license clearly showed my date of birth they told me it was not acceptable to prove my age and that a passport would be necessary to buy a '21 or over' drink.
(CA) Sheβs not really my girlfriend to be clear, but Iβve been supporting her financially and emotionally in preparation for the birth of our child.
Sheβs been averse to seeing the Doctor at any point of the pregnancy. Iβve never been able to attend any appointments during the duration of the pregnancy because of Covid. When she was due she finally started seeing an ob gyn regularly (roughly three weeks time). We had three appointments to induce labor after the due date had passed and she successfully sabotaged each of them, running away physically from the second and claiming to have/having a mental breakdown and suicidal thoughts at the third.
I brought her to the ER and she was placed in the hospitalβs behavioral health facility. After a few days she told me over the phone that the baby had died recently. I didnβt press at the time because it was extremely emotional for me. Later she told me that she had a stillbirth over two months prior. Iβve seen the baby move less than two weeks before this happened.
She refuses to present any proof of what happened and her story keeps changing. Iβm trying to ascertain the truth, but she wonβt cooperate and the hospital wonβt even confirm that sheβs there (a little ludicrous since I talk to her almost every day). I thought I might try death certificate/records for the stillbirth but wanted to check othersβ opinions first.
Any suggestions on legal rights to know whether the pregnancy is over and what actually happened?
Flaired this as chemistry - although not sure if thatβs the case.
Some examples:
β’ beer and ciders range between 3-8% with the majority between 3-6%.
β’ wines fall at 11-14%
β’ hard liquor between 30-45%
Why is this?
That is not double.
I think this question would probably be better for /r/alcohol, which is probably active enough, but this sub is even more active so I thought I'd post this here. I'm confused about "proof". I looked it up and it's basically double the actual alcohol content, but I'm looking at this bottle of egg nog with liquor and it says 14.7% alcohol and 20% proof. Which is not double, of course. Have I misunderstood proof? Can someone make sense of this?
Do alcohol companies just like to begin the nonsense before you're drunk yet?
Edit: Never mind, the label actually said 29.5, not 20.5.
I'd had a few drinks when I looked at the label and posted this thread last night.
Looking for something really smooth/sweet with that much ABV. I would hate to throw money out by buying something that I wouldnt enjoy, so is there something for newbies at that level or you need vast xp to enjoy that high ABV?
When you are trying to figure out how much alcohol you drank you always have to do a little math. One shot of whiskey (35-40%) is roughly equal to one 12oz beer (4-5%) which is roughly equal to one 5oz glass of red wine (9-13%). So if I wanted to know how much I drank, its typically counted by the "drink". I had 6 shots last night, or I had 8 beers last night, etc.
Wouldn't it be easier to measure in actual content? I use milligrams as an example, not sure if that's the correct unit, but you get the idea. I would love to know if I had 200mg of alcohol total last night vs if I had 60mg or 600mg.
Caffeine is measured exactly like this. So why can't/isn't alcohol the same?
Edit: thanks all for your responses, all makes sense to me!
Just to add a comment to those saying it's math either way, It gets way trickier with craft beer. When I get served: a 7.1% IPA in a 16oz glass, or a 9.3% double IPA served in a 10oz snifter, or I can get a 5.8% wheat served in a 22oz tall glass.
I know I can technically do the math, but its not fast or easy If I'm trying to only have 1 "drink" per hour so that I can safely drive a car.

I hate the taste of alcohol, but wanna get hammered, anyone got any suggestions?
I'll start by saying that I know this might not be a particularly exciting question for ask math. Over the weekend my wife and I made some homemade apple pie "moonshine" using everclear instead of actual moonshine. I'm trying to figure out what proof it is so I can put it on the label for xmas presents. It's 5 quarts of liquid (apple juice and apple cider) and 750 ml of 190 proof everclear. You cool the liquid before adding the everclear so it won't cook any of the alcohol out. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! By the way it's absolutely delicious
As the title says, I'm struggling to find 96% ABV grain alcohol. Want to make some limoncello, but the big shops near me only have vodka (which makes subpar limoncello).
Anyone know a store that sells high-proof alcohol?

Im planning to bring alcohol to make mixed drinks but need to minimize the weight. If I use proper measurements - e.g. instead of making vodka-coke with 1:4 ratio, I would make everclear grain alcohol and coke with 1:9 ratio - would it make much difference? Percent booze is the same, but
