A list of puns related to "Running Pop"
I laugh inordinately when the gang, especially Dennis, describes applying or removing clothing with the verb βpop.β I just said, in a professional setting, βlet me just pop on this blazer and we can go.β
What are some of your favorite (small) running jokes?
Edit: I am fully aware that the use of the word βpopβ as a verb was not created by IASIP. Itβs not unheard of, but it is apparently less common in the states than it seems to be used by our friends across the pond. Nevertheless, the funny part for me is how enthusiastically they use it when popping off clothes. So shut up bird!
Also, thanks for the award you jabroni! (Iβm aware they didnβt come up with this word either)
I'm reposting, not sure if first post was deleted by a bot or not --
It's my household chore (household=myself and bf) to order and pick up our groceries every weekend. I think I do a pretty good job of it.
This morning, come to find out- we ran out of Pop Tarts.. my bf has Pop Tarts with his coffee every morning. He was so angry about this that he threw out "my" coffee (the one "left over" cup that I get when I wake up). I wandered into the kitchen this morning, looking for coffee. He tells me,"no Pop Tarts, no coffee". I had just woken up, so I wasn't very happy. I was like, "what?! Are you serious right now?!".. so I made my own coffee, we argued a bit. I told him that's no way to treat someone, his response was- he "warned" me last time that he wouldn't be so nice if it happened again. And then I found that he tossed my breakfast food of choice into the outside trash bin (2 1/2 containers full of Aussie Bites!).. we had more words. He told me that it's not about Pop Tarts, he's upset because I never listen to him.- he told me that what he says goes in one ear and out the other. I told him that I'm human and I make mistakes and it shouldn't be this big catastrophe when I make a mistake.. and also, there won't be any pop tarts tomorrow either because I don't shop til Sunday!. Arrgh
I'm pissed off.. I went to work pissed, came home pissed, I'm still pissed. I feel violated in a way, because he intentionally threw my stuff in the trash. Uggh, violated may be too strong of a word.
I feel dumb just writing this, but I'm also aware that my perspective could be whack π£.. could use another point of view. I don't know if making it a bigger deal than it needs to be myself.
Should I have been more vigilant about keeping his favorite food in stock?.. I feel like it's not a big deal (there's other food to eat!), but obviously it IS to him.. so maybe I should be more empathetic. Blehh
Adding info that we are both in our late 50s -- yah embarrassing!. I know..
Also- there was no yelling. Not much of a difference, but I want to clarify - neither one of us yelled about anything.
As the title suggests, the new kernel update has fixed the issue of kernel panic and the affected users are no longer required to disable the trackpoint and trackpad under BIOS setup to boot into Pop!_OS 21.10.
I have tested this on my ThinkPad E 14 Gen 2 with trackpoint and trackpad enabled and I'm able to boot into my system without any problem.
Hi, I've been running Pop OS since August last year with no issues, dual booting, and now on start-up it says "The selected boot image could not Authenticate" and shoots me into Windows. All of my school papers and programs are located on the Pop partition of my hard drive.
Is there any way I can recover that part of the hard drive?? The last thing I did was put Pop into sleep mode and shut my laptop, then when I opened it again a quick BIOS-looking error message flashed (I did not catch it), and now I can only boot into Windows.
Any help would be seriously appreciated.
I will do my best to put together a little write-up of how I got Minecraft to work the way I wanted. Please let me know if there's context or instructions I'm missing that would help you, and I'll do my best to fish that out. This is also kind of like documentation for myself in case I need to do this again.
NOTICE: I am an internet stranger, so please use caution and when in doubt go to download links independently from what I provided.
Edit: Try PolyMC instead of MultiMC. It's a fork of MultiMC that is in the Pop Shop. Working with it was much easier because of this and the fact that it will prompt you to download Java if you don't have it was very smooth. Credit to u/Tabzlock for point this out in their response to my crosspost.
My PC Setup
Installing vanilla Minecraft
This was the easiest part, so if this is all you want, look no further. Just look up Minecraft in the Pop_Shop package manager, install from there, log in, and you're off to the races. It seems like the vanilla launcher comes with its own installation of Java so it's all one complete package for you.
Installing OptiFine
Based on the tutorials I could find, it should work as simply as it does on Windows, where you go to the OptiFine website, download the version of OptiFine you want, and then run the jar file to get the familiar window to install in the vanilla launcher. This tutorial is what I was following when I was still trying to run this.
If this doesn't work for you, then we can try the roundabout way that I had to use to get OptiFine working.
Installing MultiMC
The process I followed for getting OptiFine to work was through MultiMC. MultiMC is an open source alternative Minecraft launcher that allowes for you to run multiple instances of Minecraft through several accounts at the same time.
apt-get install openjdk-17-jre
With the release of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Return to Hogwarts, I am yet reminded that big industries are unable to provide full-fledged new experiences to their consumers and instead they find shelter in regurgitating old things for the sake of nostalgia with 0 innovation whatsoever, or straight up reskinning whatever worked in the past and trying to ship it as something brand new. A lot of this is due to the fact that corporations nowadays have control over what is released and what is not as opposed to having the developers/creators do it.
For example, MW2019 was a game that brought the COD franchise back on track with an exciting new formula to COD, completely innovative and very captivating in almost everything. Then we get Vanguard which is the exact same game with very minor tweaks and whatnot.
Halo Infinite is another game released solely based on Nostalgia. BF2042 is a game that had a few nostalgic shots in its trailer, trying to capture the old feeling of playing Battlefield. This Harry Potter is a nostalgia shot. The Friends reunion is another one. Spider-Man NWH brings back Maguire and Garfield, again, in an attempt to strike that nostalgia chord in us. Seriously, the big majority of these big releases are nothing new, things that we have seen a long time ago and just back at it for the sake of nostalgia and that's it.
Innovative works are very few. I seriously can't recall any kind of work that has brought some new concept to life. Maybe the Last Duel and the House of Gucci, Dune, and a few others, but the great majority is just nostalgia and reskinned crap. I think this is especially concerning and the pop culture is becoming dull for the first time in my life, and that this nostalgia and reskinned crap is unprecedented.
Edit: I think there is a difference between remastering something (think of the remastered Star Wars movies or all the recently remastered games) as opposed to this brand new game/movie covering the old product's formula. One is plainly stating they are making a thing look better, the other are arguing they are creating something new.
Hi everyone, I don't know why but I keep having this on-screen pop up keyboard show whenever I arrive at the greeter, and I was wondering if there was a way to permanently disable this from showing up in future logins (aside from the obvious minimize function shown next the smiley face). It started on this past Tuesday when I installed/played around with KDE Plasma and uninstalled it the following day. Thank you! :D

Yesterday I updated everything in Pop!_Shop as I do from time to time.
Suddenly the monitor turned black and the system seemed to restart.
But instead of booting I got:
EFI stub: ERROR: Failed to read fileEFI stub: ERROR: Failed to load initrd!EFI stub: ERROR: efi_main() failed!Failed to execute Pop!_OS (\EFI\Pop_OS-{long string}\vmlinuz.efi): Volume Corrupt
First I was shocked and tested the SSD -> Hardware is okay (new SSD)
Then I followed these two support articles:
https://support.system76.com/articles/pop-incomplete-upgrade/
https://support.system76.com/articles/pop-recovery/
I use the Pop!_OS-installation USB-Stick.Everything works great to the point I enter "sudo dpkg --configure -a".I tested it several times and it always fails at that point.
I also can't use any "apt", because it fails saying:"dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."
But if I run that, system crashes. :(
what can I do?
Short before crashing it says:
Last words before crashing (rebooting)
Output of uname -r
is: 5.13.0-7620-generic
What can I do now to bring it back to life?
_____________
Edit:
After trying this solution (and above links) my system is finally starting again.
https://vworld.nl/?p=4521
But when the update is attempted again, the system crashes as before and I have to perform the steps again.
So the problem is not solved yet but I can work on Pop!_OS for now.
