Where in Olbia would be the best place/ Mall to look for some tomrrow? I will drive down to Baunei as well, so something on the way is good too, Thank you!

update:// so thanks for Cifalsa suggestion. The one that is also an Intersport (outside the mall) had 2 pairs. Both did not fit (and were ugly too). Ah well, I try to survive with my old ones

Olbia Calcio - A Journey from Serie C to Serie A & beyond - Part VII

Part VII

(you can find Part VI here)

I want to make this entry brief. This year was largely a transitional year. Last year was the maiden season in Serie A. We surprised our competition consistently. This year in the league, weโ€™re a known quantity. On top of that, my squad is as thin as can be, and I have 3 competitions because we somehow miraculously qualified for European football.

Transfers

I kinda messed up here. I forgot about the non-EU rule (limit of 2) and I purchased/loaned 3.

My first non-EU is a young English backup regen CB from Liverpool by the name of Yannick Lokwa. Pretty solid, and attributes suggest heโ€™s as good as my captain Joรฃo Silva.

Second non-EU is a guy by the name of Gregorio Salgado. A striker from Mexico, supposed to be the next best thing. I was amazed that no big teams were after him. Only problem was I had already signed an Argentine youth on a freebie as it was a solid deal that can only have an upsideโ€ฆso I have 3 non-EU players in the same season. Unfortunately for me, the Argentine got in first, as the Mexican was only able to join after he turned 18. Sucks cuz the Argentine went out on loan and I could have used the Mexican more. He was more ready to feature in the first team. Oh well...

Besides that gaffeโ€ฆI did pretty well in the market. My favorite purchase was a central midfielder by the name of Christian Dโ€™Urso, Genoa player who terrorized me in Serie B two seasons ago. He was supposed to take over for the aging Vittorio Fabris. Bought him for 3.1M, now heโ€™s worth close to 6M and I bet I could potentially sell him for closer to 10M. He did really well in Serie A with a rating of 7.01, 4 goals and 2 assists. He even won Serie A Goal of the Year. Partners up really well with Thuram.

I also purchased wonderkid Milan van der Linden. A dutch inverted left winger who looked too good to be true when I found him last year plying his trade in Sparta Rotterdam. He broke into the first team there and received a 7.00 rating in 10 games before transfering to us. He has been pretty solid, but definitely young. Has scored some curlers though, and I love that. Cool name too. I bought him for a cool 15Mโ€ฆhoping he can be worth 3 times that in a few years. Basically I have a VERY raw Robben.

Besides that it was the usual suspects. I loaned back goalkeeper Lorenzo Avogadri, who I then purchased out right for a ST

Six hours in Olbia, tell me everything cool about this city!

Hi all,

I'm super excited cause my flight on my way back from Napoli to Paris in a couple weeks has a 6 hour layover at Olbia airport (lands at 8:05 and I've got to be back at the airport by 14:00). I've seen on Maps that the airport is only 15 minutes from the town via shuttle so I'm hella excited to check out the city!

I've never been in Sardinia before and I definitely plan on coming back for a real vacation one day but for now, what would y'all recommend I do and see during my short stay? I'm particularly interested in arts, history and archaeology, and I'd also gladly take any good food places you have in mind!

Tldr: 6 hours to kill in Olbia, I'd love to hear what locals think is interesting/cool/special about the city.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Olbia Calcio - A Journey from Serie C to Serie A & beyond - Part VI

Part VI

(find Part V here)

We start in Serie A. On loan I retain Antonini (RB), Avogadri (GK), Stefanoni (RW), Tavara (CM) and call once more on the steadying midfield presence of Bresciani (CDM), whom I had loaned in back in Serie C. He was surplus in Serie B but now that my midfield is paper thin, I figured Iโ€™d get him back seeing as heโ€™s a known quantity. Besides them, I get a regen from Sassuolo, Mr. Alberto Bortolotti (RW inside forward) whom Iโ€™m expecting great things from. Iโ€™ve also loaned back my once hailed leftback, Pitzalis. Figured we needed a known quantity there as well. Additionally, I couldnโ€™t resist getting Lazio RB Biavati. Heโ€™s supposed to be great, and his mental and physical stats are great for a 17 year old.

As far as purchases go, I have made 6. Davide Bettella, my star CB who was on loan from Atalanta was obtained for a cool 3M, 1M less than his market value. I got Khephren Thuram (CDM DLP) at a low 1.1M rate, spread over the course of 2 years. Pretty solid option in midfield. Young and can develop nicely.

I have secured the services of leftback Bruno Martella on a free (kinda expensive wage, he better work out!) and Forward (aka, striker, winger, amc, etc) Leonardo Candellone. Also on a free, I got Lapadulla, or as Roma fans might know him, Slapadulla. He will deputize Francesco Verde, but due to a mistake on my part, he might get the starting spot. More on that later. I have gotten Mato Jajalo (CDM, DLP) on a freebie. Both are old but gold and will give some much needed experience to a young side facing an inaugural season in the top flight.

Overall itโ€™s a pretty well rounded side. I think we can avoid the drop if things go our way and the proverbial wheels donโ€™t fall off (thatโ€™s what I said last season and we won itโ€ฆbut Iโ€™m not expecting to win the scudetto this year). Odds are 1000-1 for Olbia to win the title. Not badโ€ฆ

Tactics

I will keep my fabled 4-2-3-1 that worked so well in Serie B. No modifications. I am training my boys to play a FRUSTRATING 5-2-1-2 for those games at the Juventus stadium and San Siro where a draw is all I can realistically hope for. Hereโ€™s my 4-2-3-1 starting XI:

Olbia Calcio - A Journey from Serie C to Serie A & beyond - Part I (Blog)

The Game: Football Manager 2020

The Team: Olbia Calcio

Starting Division: Italian Serie C/A

The Goals:

  1. Stabilize the club into a first division perennial team, starting from the third division.
  2. Develop youngsters using the academy and integrate them into first team
  3. Majority local players if and when possible
  4. Make Sardinia proud and start a healthy rivalry with Cagliari

Team Background:

Olbia Calcio is located on the northeast corner of the island of Sardinia in the city of Olbia, pop. 60,000. So far, no team besides regional capital club Cagliari has made it to the first division. As opposed to Italyโ€™s other big island, Sicily, which had at one point or another, 3 teams competing in Serie A (Messina, Palermo, and Catania). This needs to change, and I intend to do so. Olbia's highest position ever has been, according to FM 2020, 13th, which occured in 2018-2019 (last year, in the game time). Never in Serie B

My Background:

(Real) I have some attachment to the island. I was not born there, but my family is from there, and my godparents and cousins live near to Olbia. I started out as realistically as possible. I was a Sunday-league footballer in my youth, playing central defensive midfielder and eventually right back. I was known for having good tactical understanding of the game, and a decent long distance shot. Then I moved on to coaching. I coached some little league teams, but never adult players. (Fiction) This is why I have given myself the lowest badge (besides starting with zero, which is unrealistic) in the form of the National C License.

Starting attributes for my manager

I am not very good yet. This will not only make it hard to earn my keep, but also motivating my players and coaching them properly will be more difficult, however these are the things that make the game worthwhile. (Fiction) Alas, my uncle has some pull in the community and managed to get me this gig. After leading Olbia to their highest standings in recent history, Oscar Arnaldo Brevi had to step down from the helm due to personal reasons. He had made many moves already, so nobody else wanted the gig because there was little space to shape the team into their image. I will merge Breviโ€™s image with my own, for now.

Pre-Season 2019/2020 - Staff

My first priority is to evaluate the staff and make the appropriate cuts.

The f

Part II - Attached for anyone that wants to go back to this post.

Part III

Transfers & Tactics

I have purchased a whole new set of centerbacks to replace those that left on freebies, except for Jherson Vargas who is probably my first purchase and extremely solid. I brought in Joรฃo Silva (CB), Agostino Camigliano (CB), and Nicola Pasini (CB). At first it was hard to settle on a starting pair. Vargas is a sure bet, but between Camigliano and Silva, there's little difference. Pasini was brought in for insurance, however he ended up as fourth choice. At the halfway point of the season more or less, Camigliano got a serious injury, so Silva stepped in and outperformed him. I'm sticking with Cortinovis in goal, as he might not be better than Aresti, but he inspires more confidence in me, and he is promising and trains hard. Additionally, I added striker Roberto Piccoli on loan, brought back Andrea Candela (RB) as a starter, as well as Simone Pinna from Cagliari as a backup RB. Was going to stick with Pitzalis as LB but this guy Filippo Stevanin impressed while on trial, so I offered him a contract. The rest of the squad was rounded off with loans with Bresciani (CM/DM) as a backup to Giandonato, my regista. I found this impressive guy named Davide Mazzocco on a free who is a well rounded CM that can step in in case Fabris gets injured. Then to deputize for Doratiotto at LW, I brought in traditional winger Kalifa Manneh. To deputize for Rovini at RW, I brought in Ceccarelli (however I soon regretted it as he was theoretically better than Rovini but seldom delivered. Eventually gave him away for free. Fortunately Rovini has been seldom injured even though he's supposedly injury prone).

Here's my Starting XI for the season:

Starting XI

I have started the season unbeaten. How much longer can it go on? Here is the league situation during the winter break.

Winter Table

As the weeks progress, I keep winning by hook or by crook, or drawing by FMโ€™ing the other team. It is quite satisfying to get one over the AI. I might be winning on the field, but boy my finances suck. My wag

Airport Olbia controls

Good morning fellow travelers.

I have a question regarding the airport vaccine controls at the airport Olbia. I'm flying back to Munich next week. I'm fully vaccinated, but the problem is, I got the last dosis 13 days ago, but i would need to have 14 days, without having to do an antigen test.

So how strict are the controls on the airport? Do you guys think they would let me into the airplane as a fully vaccinated person but with only 13 days. Or are they really strict? Would you pay for the antigen test?

Thanks in advance guys

Olbia Calcio - A Journey from Serie C to Serie A & beyond - Part II

Part I - Attached for anyone that wants to go back to this first post.

Part II

What first started as the pure blank canvas of an entire season untouched has turned into: โ€œwill I get fired?โ€. In short, the start of the league season has not been kind. Will I move on from Olbia and make this one a journeyman career? I loaded lots of leagues lower than Serie C just in case I get fired.

It started with a string of poor results. Then a glimmer of hope. An encouraging draw which was my first clean sheet but also showed me that we needed to work on chance conversion in training.

The first thing I did that Sunday night was to modify my training for next week. I hadnโ€™t been paying attention to it up to now because I was still getting to know the team and evaluating them, so I let the ASSman do his thing. First mistake.

In training we worked on defending from wide so that my players donโ€™t concede pointless penalties again. We then moved on to scoring the actual goals. I feel a bit of chance conversion and shadow play would be necessary as my players are struggling to make the right moves, but when they do, their finishing lets them down. I also had a team meeting to tell them that things havenโ€™t been going our way straight off, but we can certainly improve with a bit of luck.

I donโ€™t know if it was training or the moral boosting team talk that swung the pendulum my way, but it certainly wasnโ€™t luck. A 2-1 win that really could have been greater. Some fantastic display of quick direct play led to a 2-0 lead by half time. Once it was clear after the 2-1 that a third wasnโ€™t on the way midway for me but more likely another for them to level it, a tactical adjustment to a lower and more compact 3-4-1-2 led to a 2-1 victory.

I donโ€™t have a set formation, and have been tinkering between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3 with the occasional shift to a back-3 in a 3-4-1-2. Most of it driven through injury, some out of necessity and sheer โ€œI donโ€™t know what I need to change, but something needs to change drasticallyโ€. Sometimes I make the right changes, other times I donโ€™t. We are now at the end of December and I sit mired in 8th place, 17 points from top and 11 points from the relegation playoff zone. Monza is running away with it.

Olbia Calcio - A Journey from Serie C to Serie A & beyond - Part V

Part V

(find Part IV here)

Part A:

The season begins with two defeats. One unlucky defeat at home and another to Genoa away, who by any measure, have a good Serie A team. Just mismanaged. Then Pescara, another team that got promotion to Serie B. I beat them, but just barely. I restructure my training and that seems to do it. I get win after win. Draw if necessary, and only losses when I least expect to win. I am pretty happy with the players and I canโ€™t believe I am up so high on the table come the winter break. I know I will eventually slide down, and I really donโ€™t want to go to Serie A just yet, but once the winter break rolls around, this is how the table looks:

Half Way Through

That is an insanely good performance by a team expected to struggle. We were given 65-1 odds of winning. Granted, Genoa have struggled, I donโ€™t know what Empoli is doing, and Salernitana (who was expected to be top 4) are an abject failure. Parma is the only side genuinely playing up to snuff. I faced them two times, and was destroyed each time. They kicked me out of the Coppa Italia, unfortunately, but I wasnโ€™t expecting much out of that competition anyway.

The rest of the season should be equally challenging, but if I can stay within the top 8, I will enter the playoffs and secure some MUCH needed funds.

Part B:

Well this was going to be a two parter, but an impromtu vacation for my real-life self has made this entry rather brief, which Iโ€™m sure you appreciate (I tend to ramble, SORRY). Below is the table at the end of the season. Guys I canโ€™t even begin to explain it. I had an at best, average at best team compared to Parma, Spezia, and Genoa.

Let me set the stage. I keep winning and drawing, as does Parma. I am in first from before Christmas, only once losing the top spot to Parma. I kept expecting the wheels to fall off. I mean, how much longer could I keep riding these lucky freekick/corner/long throw goals for? Last minute 1-0 & 2-1 victories or last minute draws. Come-from-behind victories. All of it. It was a wild season but I was not expecting it to last. I was already preparing for playoffs and giving it my all, but I would have been happy to stay in Serie B for another year. Yet I kept winning and drawing the bett
