A list of puns related to "Duty To Rescue"
Hi all.
Last night my grandmother pulled the emergency cord in her flat (in an elderly care facility). She has COPD and Alzheimer's, and we could hear her on the phone during the incident, as we were in the middle of a call.
I won't lean on hyperbole to describe things, but she was in a state. Frankly, we thought we were about to hear her die; massive respiratory distress, almost completely unable to breathe.
We heard a carer arrive and call an ambulance, but once that was done they just left. We've been told that they're not allowed to stay with a resident in an emergency, unless they're on the books for a particular kind of care.
Meanwhile, the phone is still off the hook and we can hear the patient basically begging for the carer to stay, absolutely terrified.
We also heard that (while the facility is fully aware of the medical conditions of the patient) the carer briefly trying to convince my grandmother that she was just having a panic attack, even though the issue was clearly a need for breathing aid. After some talking to folks down here, apparently said carer is not trained in any way medically.
In short; do we have any recourse?
Hello Reddit, and fellow Scots.
I wanted to post this thread to highlight severe concerns I am having with the direction of the SFRS. I sincerely believe members of the public are at risk, and the direction upper management are steering the SFRS into will undoubtedly lead to public deaths, and put Fire Fighters at risk.
I am a Watch Commander. I joined the Fire Service 15 years ago. I love the service and my job. I've seen and done things I'd never thought were possible. I love helping people, and I love saving lives.
Presently, the service is severely lacking in personnel and training. Whenever I come in to a shift, it isn't about IF a fire engine is off the run due to personnel shortage, it's just how many fire engines are off. A few weeks ago, there were no multi-fire engine stations in the whole of the West. This is terrifyingly short, since one major fire will have used all of the resources in pretty much all of the West. The Glasgow School of Art brought the service to the brink of resources. If someone has a car crash or a fire at this time, we would not have had the resources to save them on time.
Training is equally short. Lack of personnel in operations is reflected by lack of personnel in training. We just don't have enough.
And now, the upper management want to bring in medical incidents, slips trips and falls, and MTFA (Marauding Terrorist Firearms Attack). There is very little to no training for these. Very little resources. And the kicker, is that introducing these incidents to our duties will require MORE personnel, which we are already short in.
How would you feel if your Mother was suffering from abdominal pains, and you called 999, and a fire engine came which did not have the capability to transport your Mother to the hospital, no medicine to administer, no paramedic level medical training. We'd just stand around and look at her.
How would you feel if your Father was in a fire and died, and you learned that there was a fire engine 2 minutes away which could have saved him, but we were helping a granny back into her bed.
This is a disaster.
Please, help anyway you can. Write to your MPs. Call the bosses of the SFRS. Write letters. Please help us
