[EVENT] The court of Philibert II, Duke of Savoy

The mountains of the Alps stood as imposingly as ever around ChambΓ©ry. Mountains that had withstood Greek invasions of antiquity, survived barbaric savages from Germany, and even humbled the great commanders Hannibal and Caesar. Philibert stood, humbled as always by these magnificent, godlike figures, yet also feeling safe. He knew ChambΓ©ry would never fall as long as these mountains stood watch.

However, some might call that feeling of safety unfounded. ChambΓ©ry was, in reality, in immense danger. The French stood to the west and the east, and marched through southern Savoy as though they owned it. Philibert had no doubt as to Louis XII's intentions after the annexation of Milan. To the north, the Habsburgs- a family that could crush Savoy without a second thought. And although situated between these two titans, Philibert could look at the mountains and feel safe.

Philibert himself was only 19. Administration of his duchy had taken over his life since the death of his wife, Yoland Louise- this same tragedy had transformed his younger, more excitable self into a mellow, lassitude duke almost going through the motions. He was not particularly good at it- neither was he terrible. Where he really excelled was diplomacy. He had managed to keep Savoyard independence so far even in the wake of the Italian war, while also keeping the majority of the nobles on his side. He was popular within ChambΓ©ry, which was an achievement within itself. The Savoyard people were a united folk, and not one that would easily cower to foreign invaders.

Philibert did have a family, however small it was- primarily composed of his younger brother Charles III. Charles reminded Philibert of his younger self- ambitious, energetic, somewhat hotheaded. He loved to get tasks from his older brother and almost always excelled at them. Philibert loved him- Charles loved him back. What Charles loved even more, though, was Philibert's lack of children, making Charles the first in line to the dukedom.

And so Philibert watched the the snowy mountains, safe despite the danger. Later, it would be time to deal with the French, the Pope, the Emperor, and whoever else decides to enroach upon his land. But for now, Philibert would watch the mountains.

[EVENT] The House of Savoy - Citizens of Italy

May of 1955

A cause of some controversy, though an important premise on which the current Government draws it's support, in the days following Giueseppe Pella's election as Premier in 1953 it seemed the Christian Democrats would be unable to command a Parliamentary Majority, however, enter the National Monarchists a party which no one had expected to enter Government but due to their strong support in the South would become the ones to grant Pella the majority he so desired.

Though this was not all for free, in return for supporting the policies of Pella Monarchist Party Leader Alfredo Covelli demanded Christian Democratic support in passing a law to remove restrictions placed on Males of the House of Savoy prohibiting them from entry into Italy. Initially it seemed that this promise might have caused a splinter of the Christian Democratic party, as left-leaning members could not support such a move less than a decade after abolishing the Monarchy in the first place, eventually a compromise between Pella and leftist DC member Amintore Fanfani secured the integrity of the party solidifying Pella's position, at least for now.

As such it was that on the 4th of May 1955 the Italian Parliament in session were called to answer an important question: Should the Male Members of the House of Savoy be allowed return to Italy and offered Italian citizenship?

As one might expect the left was in uproar, both the Italian Communist and Socialist Parties mandates voted no unanimously, but also the Social Democratic party which is part of the Government coalition opted to reject the notion of allowing the Savoys a return to their homeland.

Ultimately the motion would prove itself succesful by a slight margin, as the Christian Democrats and National Monarchists who together carried 47.1% of Parliament mandates were joined by the Liberal party in addition to smaller regionalist parties and, controversially, a small number of neo-facist Social Movement mandates bringing parliamentary approval of the motion up to 53,3% and causing it to pass onto the Senate where due to the largely Christian-Democratic and Monarchist permanent members quickly approved of it following which the President of the Republic signed it into law.

In the days that followed the National Monarchist Party officially sent out an invitation to the

Name of certain move in Savoy Shim Sham (Al & Leon)

Hiya,

I'm currently teaching myself the Savoy Shim Sham and I came across a move of which I do not know the name and I was hoping you guys could help me out. I find that if I know the name of a certain move I can more easily remember the routine itself, but I can't for the life of me figure out the name

The move in question happens at 1:12–1:19 in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zpkkjm4Nt4&t=72sand for a clearer view, Sharon Davis does it in this version at 1:07–1:14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubP_hXgKJa4&t=66.

It has a bit of a latin feel because of the hip movement.

EDIT: I think we solved this conundrum and we're pretty sure it's called 'Hip rolls'.

[Claim] The Duchy of Savoy

Political Overview

The Duchy of Savoy is an indepenent state ruled by the Duke Philibert II and his kin. Whilst Philibert is a young and stable king, his passive nature to the growing French power has made him a few enemies. He has realised that in order to maintain his rule and order, he must fight this new influence in the region. He currently has no children, but he is married to Margaret of Austria and may seek the help of his kin in fighting the wars to come.

Geographical Overview

It is rather unfortunate, that Savoy is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Savoy is to France's southern border with the Italian states and was passive, allowing France to come through and invade Italy. It is a mountainous and hilly region with a wamr climate, oweing to many orchards and vineyards.

Military Overview Boasting a strong military of trained soldiers and cavalry, the military of Savoy is not to be taken lightly. (Sorry, I really cannot find much on Savoy's military)

Diplomatic Overview

It is ruled by the Duke of Savoy, Philibert II and thus has ties to many other nobles of Europe. Namely Austria and France, especially as Philibert is married to Margaret of Austria.

My Intentions

I intend to maintain independence and to perhaps grow and expand, not only in influence but also land and army.

[DECLAIM] Duchy of Savoy

Hey all! Due to diminishing time (and other priorities at the moment), I just don't have the time to seriously pursue this game anymore. As a new player, i've very much enjoyed my tenure and I intend to return as soon as I can within my schedule.

Besides that, it is a little worrying on my end the level to which high-level players are able to control the game compared to new people - not in a physical sense, but even in terms of respect and negotiation. As Savoy, being cut out of the peace process after gambling your entire duchy with nothing to show for it is very tough to deal with, and i'm having a tough time deciding where Rene would really go from this point in my own mind.

That isn't to say, though, that i'm declaiming because of such an issue. As a game of politics, I understand success in EP is based on political acumen first and foremost. If you make a bad move, you have to live with it - and for this reason, it's quite likely that i'll reclaim Savoy if/when I come back and live through my consequences.

Thank you for this opportunity. Best of luck to the next season!
