In 1942, Carl Kauffeld released 29 Eastern fence lizards near Rossville, Staten Island, where they still persist in oak-blackjack barrens. This was done so he could have a food source for the snakes at the Staten Island Zoo, as he would otherwise have to drive to the Pine Barrens to collect them.
I thought it was dead because all the leaves fell off. But look at that, new bud growth/leaf eruption (whatever you call it)!! It's a Dwarf Blackjack Oak from outside Wichita KS growing in west central Indiana 😁♥️🌳
Just a Quercus marilandica (Blackjack Oak) at my local park. I really love how it grows out of the trunk of the perfectly-matching Black Ash, and just feel like it really encapsulates the Blackjack's spirit so well.

Blackjack oak late stage chlorosis. I plan on soil testing, but might sulfur the soil a bit to help the tree before June heat hits. Im not sure I have time to wait.

It's just baaaarely spring here in the hills of Mississippi. White Oak, Post Oak, Blackjack Oak, Mockernut Hickory, Black Cherry, Tulip Poplar, Beech, Dogwood and Sweetgum, all are just showing leaflets. Before long, the jungle will leaf out in earnest and obscure most topography.

Does type of blackjack (oak/willow/maple) affect knockout odds?
I've seen some people say "as long as it's maple, (O) or (D) doesn't matter", and some people say "they only have different combat stats, it doesn't affect thieving/blackjacking." So, i'm a bit confused as to which one is true.

[SE Alabama] Is this a Blackjack Oak? I ask because I have plenty of Blackjack on my property, but this tree is different. The leaves are 1/2 the size of the others and the are still green while the others have turned yellow/brown. Pic of more leaves on a limb in comments.
