After about 1 year of watching Whittling videos, I decided to buy 2 knives and try for myself! This is my first project, a spirit made from wood from the nearby forest (as I couldn't find Basswood in my area. Besides, I like it as is and prefer it to basswood now). Really proud! :)

Looking for a basswood source. I’ve used Ebay in the past but was t happy with how dry the wood was. I currently use Woodcraft near me, but they can be pricey. Looking for some suggestions. I am in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Why is basswood considered as shote compared to ash and alder? And are all MIJ fender basses made of basswood?

Basswood trees
I've learned recently that many of the trees on my property are basswood. Do they have any use in a permaculture homestead? An arborist told me they were "junk trees" that grow like weeds. Kinda seems like I could do coppicing of some kind based on how they send up shoots if you cut them? The arborist said they aren't good for firewood though so idk...

New to whittling, having a difficult time finding basswood (Australia). Any suggestions of where to find it or anyone who delivers to Australia? Also open to suggestions of alternative wood more accessible in Australia.
