A list of puns related to "Balanced Budget"
I was listening to QR770 today and they had a clip of economist Trevor Tombe saying the Alberta government can likely balance the budget in 2022 with oil prices sustained at $71/bbl (WTI is currently over $81).
Only in Alberta can you be staring down a $20B+ budget deficit one year, and make it all back the next. It's fricken bonkers.
Edit: Here's the clip if anyone wants a listen. At 3PM on the 12th, right after the first commercial.

Professor Nicolaus Tideman is a co-author of the recent paper demonstrating a 5% increase in the tax rate on the value of U.S. land, balanced by decreases in tax rates on labour and capital, would increase economic output by 15% to 25%.
Professor Tideman served as Senior Staff Economist to President Nixon's Council of Economic Advisors. He has held visiting positions at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the University of Buckingham, and the American Institute for Economic Research, and is an associate of the Earth Rights Institute. Prior to holding his current position as Professor of Economics at Virginia Tech, Professor Tideman was an Assitant Professor of Economics at Harvard. He received his BA in economics and mathematics from Reed College and a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.
Professor Tideman's work focuses on land value taxation, voting theory, and political philosophy. Professor Tildeman is the author of Collective Decisions and Voting: The Potential for Public Choice. He is the creator of the Tideman method, also known as the ranked pair voting system, which selects a single winner from votes expressing a preference ranking. He is also the creator of the CPO-STV proportional voting method. Further, Professor Tideman devised the independence of clones criterion, which both of his methods satisfy.
We are very lucky to have such a distinguished economist and voting theorist share his time and knowledge with us. Please join me in posting some interesting questions for Professor Tideman to answer in the comments below.
Iβm looking to setup a new audio system and I was looking into getting the ifi zen since I have balanced headphones. However, I noticed that it only takes usb input. I kinda wanted multiple inputs since I might run a raspberry pi to it. My budget is around 300 USD for the amp/dac. Thanks!
>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
Attempting to create a future-proof build that is solid on all fronts of my use. I will be using the PC to play games at a high refresh rate, (honestly a variety: FPS, RPGs, Action, Adventure), streaming, using all Adobe products for work and creating content (rather large projects, some documentaries, short montages etc) [After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign]. Rendering and exporting big projects for YouTube and smaller ones too. General every day use as well.
>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
Probably around Β£3500. Can budge up to Β£4000.
>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Most likely in the next 2 months, I know it's far away but I'd appreciate a general gist/direction of a build to keep in mind.
>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc\)**
I need: CPU Cooler, Motherboard, Memory, Storage, Power Supply, OS, Keyboard, Mouse, Case Fans.
>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
United Kingdom.
>**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
None.
>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
Highly doubt it as I do not know a lot on this area.
>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
For Adobe, I read that having SSDs are really beneficial for speed, export, rendering etc. meaning I can create more and work faster. I'd love to know some more on this front if there is anything I should be looking at in particular.
>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
I'd like to go for a white case to match the PS5, and I'm sold on grabbing a *MSI NVIDIA GeFor
... keep reading on reddit β‘Some parties call for balancing the budget as a top priority, but why should I care? I would assume spending and investing in people automatically benefits the economy. Would my life be better if the budget was balanced?
Free government sponsored child care (pre-k) for any families making less than 50,000 a year (that's 2 times the guaranteed minimum income). Maintained and staffed by government employees paid per federal schedules.
All current student debt dismissed or paid off
Cut congress salaries 50% - no more perks - no retirement - no travel - no 2nd home allowances - no more living like millionaires on the public dime. All future raises will be considered by a group of 21 American citizens randomly/lottery picked from social security rolls.
No one making laws in the United States (federal or state or local) is allowed ANY income from outside their government paycheck. None. All sources of income to include stock trading, futures, money markets, corporate earnings, outside paychecks, stocks and bonds, etc, are to be COMPLETELY divested prior to taking office - the individual will not be allowed to take office until this is verified by the appropriate ethics committee. NO form of outside income allowed - make it criminal. NO ONE - not congress, not the president, not the supreme court, no cabinet members, no "appointments", NO ONE is allowed ANY income outside their paycheck. The common argument is "I can make more in the private sector" - fine, go make it - quit screwing America. Make this a criminal ethics violation.
All public utilities at state & federal levels returned to governments - no more "for profit" - include water, electric, heating/cooling, sewer, garbage/refuse
Cut ALL non-utility (non-public good) subsidies - agricultural subsidies, certain fuel oil/gas (heating/co generation) subsidies to be reviewed annually.
No more lobbying - outlaw any form of lobbying. Federal employees are not allowed to lobby ever, either while still employed or after they leave government.
Corporations are no longer considered people, return the requirements for corporation to 1890 standards.
Overturn citizens united. Make the maximum single political donation, per year, per citizen, $200 - per citizen as determined by their Social Security number.
And replace Garland with someone having a spine, someone who can clear the government of trump's stooges and put the 2020 traitors in prison. ALL of them. And do it quickly.
By lowering taxes I mean for the lower 99%, not the higher 1%. I recently learned that the tax rate in Sweden is 56% and honestly that seems ridiculous even for a social democratic nation.
I personally theorize we can have a balanced budget and low taxes if we think about spending smarter instead of more. We can likely enjoy sufficient healthcare, education, welfare, and government programs without taxing citizens more than 25%.
Even in countries like Sweden and Denmark, a huge percentage of their government spending goes to some relatively inefficient programs, so I don't think Sweden's FIFTY-SIX PERCENT tax rate is necessary. On the other hand, in the United States, politicians claim they can't afford welfare & healthcare without raising taxes while simultaneously giving billions of dollars to multi-billion dollar companies.
The government could easily balance the federal budget without drastically increasing taxes to ridiculous amounts... by cutting out unecessary fluff instead of the few things we actually desperately need. Why spend 100 trillion dollars on overpriced fighter jets when you can invest in cyber security & missile defense systems and receive the exact same efficiency at half the cost?
Still waiting...
I've been using my Soundmagic E10C earbuds for more than 3 years. While the sound quality is great and all, it's slowly starting to fall apart. Like the cable sleeves are getting peeled and I can see copper wires are quite visible. I'm looking to get a on-ear headphones which primarily will be used for music and gaming. I'm not looking for gaming headphones because they are overpriced and lacking in music department most of the time. What are your suggestions?
An amendment will be written into the constitution of Michigan forcing all governors now and after me to only propose a balanced budget. This is to safeguard that Michigan maintains economic stability for it's people, and let them prosper under a balanced budget.
