A list of puns related to "Xanth"
By Piers Anthony, full of puns, and everyone in Xanth has a magical talent. WIP, feel free to contribute. Once done, I'll submit it to the drive. Link included.

So far, I'm just putting ideas down. Still will need to work on pricing and getting more ideas.
Also, if there already is a Xanth jump (which I haven't seen yet), let me know.
Was inspired by u/dundavetta to post my collection.
I don't remember when I switched to hardbacks, but I used to have some of the series on paperback. For the most part I only buy ebooks anymore, but Xanth is really the only exception anymore. With mine being hardback except for Return to Centaur (or: What Kind of Foal Am I?) and the Crossroad Adventures, they won't fit on one shelf.
From the first Xanth book to Isle of View, and then the books past Skeleton Key (the tie-ins) are all from used bookstores. Everything else I bought new. Wish I had more Xanth merchandise!
Was very pleased getting Isle of View on hardback, as that's rather hard to find. (Used to have a hardback that was school/library binding prior.) The Isle of View is a signed/numbered edition, I could post pictures of that another time.
I'm waiting for Tryst of Fate to be available on hardback. Would love to get Piers Anthony to sign Harpy Thyme (first Xanth book I read so it's dear to my heart) for me, but I don't think that'll ever happen.

I've been following Xanth's method for experiencing AP, and I get to the point where I'm at focus 12 (seeing shapeless blobs and flashes of light in the darkness). I focus on them and they get really vivid and I have this very intense feeling throughout my body but particularly behind my eyes. Like severe eye strain, even though my eyes are closed. I feel this for a while but then it gradually fades and the shapeless blobs dissipate.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or should be doing in order to progress past this stage?
I found some rumblings about it 5-6 years ago. But notta as of late.
To ANYONE AND EVERYONE! For anyone unaware, this post was told a few months ago, and another post decided tomorrow would be Xanth day! Please, anybody who can, join us in going to Ash Lake, tomorrow to commemorate the good communities of this subreddit, and the powerful impact this game, and others, can have on us all.

We'll see you there, skeleton!
All anyone talks about with series is the gender dynamics. And to be fair, it's basically Gor for kidsβnot in terms of having BDSM, but in terms of being a vehicle for the author's strange and offensive opinions about women. But having just finished the first book, there's so much more to complain about.
The hero is a 25-years-old man on a "coming-of-age" journey after getting exiled from his magical homeland for lacking magic. Despite being a grown man, he basically thinks and acts like a child. And, just like a child, he can't solve any of his problems on his own, spending the entire book accomplishing absolutely nothing. The author also can't decide whether he's smart or dumb. Early on, it's said that he's one of the only people in his village who uses his mind. But by the time the Gary Stu antagonist gets introduced, he basically gets dumbed down to act as a foil. Just what is the point of all this? Why would somebody write a fantasy protagonist who can't do anything and doesn't even grow as a character?
The early parts meander on and on with the protagonist questioning the nature of his world. We get paragraph after paragraph describing some whimsical eccentricity of the magic that the main character ponders about, to the point a dozen pages go by with very little happening. But by comparison, the climax happens at breakneck speed and is basically a sports training montage.
The book can't even decide what it wants to be about. All that questioning of the nature of magic? It goes no where and just seems to be a way for the author to clumsily introduce aspects of his universe. Then later, a major development happens when the protagonist realizes he loves the female lead because her beauty and intelligence are constantly in flux. He has an epiphany that, all this time, what he was really looking for in a woman was variety. Okay, great. When was that established? When was it ever shown that the protagonist needs or wants excitement and change to be fulfilled in life? But the worst insult is the ending of the book. The climax, if you can even call it that, consists of the hero sitting around ineffectually as other people talk and decide his fate, without any input or actions on his part. Just, why? Who writes a story this way? What kind of person thinks that this is exciting or satisfying?
I just wanna know what it'd be like if they brought stand arrows to Xanth and maybe a jojo or two.
I wish we did more events like this, I know I was late but I was disappointed to see literally no summon signs or messages on my way there. Hope we do it again for realsies.
Made this pilgrimage for you, dude.
Hope you're doing good
I figured there was to be at least one other person in this subreddit that could appreciate the fact that I named my little island for animal crossing after my favorite book series. Since it's creation I have slowly but surely coming up with little ideas to make the island more Xanth-y. I invited Hamphrey to come live there and I call him the Good Magician Hamphrey. And he lives up on a hill, far away from everything except the Museum. It's kinda perfect because he is tiny and cranky too. Lol I also created a Gap chasm and now have Drago living there as the Gap Drago. I'm now a couple little areas where I have tried to create goofy on punny things (like ants hosting a picnic for a few other bugs) but I need more ideas. Lol Anyway, just wanted to share, I'll post some pictures later if it turns out anyone would like to see them.
So I listened to Robert Monroes Intro to Focus 10 from his Gateway Experience CDs last night while applying Xanths Phasing method of Noticing. I've meditated before while listening to binaural beats so I was skeptical this would be any different. About 20 minutes in out of nowhere I felt energy rushes through my body and my closed eyes began twitching uncontrollably. This essentially made me focus on the sensations and not on "seeing" behind my eyes. This has never happened before. Can anyone relate to this experience?
Does anyone know if there are audio books of any of the Xanth series, especially the early book in the series, and where to find them?
I loved the Xanth novels, have since i found them as a young teen, but my wife had a hard time getting into A Spell for Chameleon due to the sexism and misogyny. I want to get her hooked and I know the puns and magical abilities and fun characters will get her interested if I can find the right couple of books to get her interested first. Which books do you think are going to be the best to get her hooked without as much sexual undertone?
When talking about the longest fantasy series of all time everyone always talks about Wheel of Time and Malazan. Why does no one ever mention Xanth? I mean I know there's a lot of misogyny and sex, but is that enough to disclude it from any fantasy conversations? It seems like this series gets no love. I read it back when I was a teen and I'm thinking about picking it up again.
Yes I know a lot of folks consider these sexist, but Iβm talking about the idea of a male adventurer with cloak and magic sword on a quest through strange landscapes. Old fashioned heroics and clever escapes. Saving princesses. Sort of like the Kings Quest games.
This thread is for discussing book 2, The Source of Magic
The thread for book 3, Castle Roogna, will go up September 1st.
So Iβm running a combination of LMoP and DoIP as a lead up to Tyranny of Dragons, and I decided to start writing little short scenes to flesh out the NPCs more in my mind, and to help give my players a wider sense of immersion. I wrote this one for Xanth, the Centaur who might be found at the Dragon Barrow, and who was driven from his home by orcs displaced by Cryovain. It takes place in the Neverwinter Wood, about a month before the events of the campaign. Hope this is enjoyable and/or useful for anyone! π€
Xanth watched with pride as the arrow struck the center of the target, about 100 feet away. βI did it! I did it!β Erelia shouted excitedly. βDaddy did you see?β The hunter let out a low chuckle as he tussled his daughterβs hair. βYour arrows fly truer with each dawn, and farther with each cycle of the moon, little one. Soon you will be hunting the stars themselves.β He watched with fondness as a broad smile spread across her face. βNow, little Starchaser,β Xanth said, turning his gaze back towards the target, βshall we see if your arrows can find their mark trice over?β Ereliaβs smile turned to a look of concentrated determination as it she raised her bow back to a ready position. She notched another arrow, noting that the quiver hanging at her waist was getting empty. She took aim. A light breeze blew through the clearing, carrying with it the scent of summer, and tossing her hair behind her. Erelia let out a slow, calming breath and loosed an arrow at the target the two had set up an hour after dawn. The young would-be huntress let out a triumphant laugh as her arrow embedded itself an inch above her previous one, just inside the bullseye. She smiled at her father, who nodded approvingly to himself. Erelia pulled out another arrow.
So I was browsing r/relationships and a thread came up bashing the Xanth series claiming it has sexist and pedophilic undertones... What?
I read the books as a teen/early twenty something and I don't remember them being that bad. I thought they were hilarious and a great example of 80s-90s fantasy.
Admittedly I haven't read them in a couple years but were they really that bad?
