So, I haven't played this game in god knows how long (I think last i played was when the big dragon character came out?). Anyways, installed via steam, and the game launched the first time just fine. After that first launch though, it will not get past the wizet logo, and just freezes on the logo, with music still playing.

Anyways i've tried various compatibility settings, running as admin, reinstalling, and even tried deleting a windows compatibility registry that someone else suggested but nothing has worked.

Any ideas on getting this old game working?

Editing in case anyone else has the same error: After installing via the nexon launcher instead of steam I still had the same issue, however this time upon crashing it gave me a c++ runtime error. I've gone through and reinstalled all the distributions I have on this laptop (I keep them up to date as is, but figured it's worth a shot), and got nowhere.

I also saw suggestions on replacing some directX files in the root for the game, but that did not seem to work either.

Some people suggested editing a registry for the screen mode, SoScreenMode. That didn't appear to do anything, and interestingly enough it'd sometimes attempt to automatically repair itself and reset this change.

As a last ditch effort, I saw someone mention about switching files off of read-only. Doubted it but that didn't seem to work either.

So far i'm dead in the water with ideas at the moment beyond nuking my windows 10 build, which wont be worth it for this.

Interesting note though, after all of these, and i dont know which one, sometimes i'll make it past the wizet logo and see what looks like the sign in page before the same runtime error occurs. My last guess might be a ram allocation error, which shouldn't really happen but it did in fact seem like maplestory was about as ram hungry as chrome

I'd like to know more about them but info about Wizet specifically is scarce.

Tried to close game/nexon launcher from task manager,restart my router, restart pc, full shutdown, repairing game files, reinstall game.. still the same problem.. crashing right after the wizet logo animation on lading screen..

Like the title says, I haven't played the game since Wizet still owned the game. Too much has changed and I'd like some help getting back into it. My main question is, what class should I pick? I did a little bit of looking and found out that classes that don't use mana would be a good start since I have zero funding and it will help me save money in the long run. From that, I looked into the Demon Slayer class.

What are your thoughts? I'm open to any suggestion really. I mainly want a class I can make a hefty amount of money on so I can fun future characters.

When I go to load MS and that wizet launcer thing pops up (the one you can't close) it's too big for my screen to fully hold, does anyone know how to move the screen or something to do to help?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Like most of you, Nexon bought my adolescent game addiction from Wizet and have been playing off and on since Y1. I recently (Summer 2021) starting playing a bit of reboot over the Maple Hotel event and stopped because of work / grad school. I made a Kanna because 1) I like mages and 2) she looked fun. I didn't know I was making the strongest mobbing class by far, but I got it to 216 w/7k before quitting again.

I've had a little extra time this week, so I decided to making a burning Kain, which was fun. I enjoyed getting to 200 in basically 3 days. I enjoyed getting/using a temp CRA set. I'm enjoying some of the J5 abilities. It's dope.

Regarding the announce Kish nerf, I will say I'm disappointed. Not because I want Kanna to be the only class to enjoy increased spawn rates, but because it's just another core quality of life improvement that is being monetized.

This, to me, is just more evidence for the obvious: this game is no longer being maintained for "casual" players like me. I suspect that the top 10% of NX spenders probably make up around 80% of the game's revenue, and core game changes, aside from being inherited from a completely different market, are intended to extract more value from them.

I quit the first time because it was a grrriiiiiiiiiiiiind. Trust me when I say no one wanted to sit there for a week, blowing up meso bags at Gobis only to get +2 levels. But at least, at the time, progression was more or less egalitarian and bossing was a team effort. Plus party quests were amazing and the free market / meta economy added a layer of complexity that is sorely lacking. Now, bossing runs are either solo carried or require guilds that will struggle, none of which are easy to come by as someone who wants to play a few days / month. Also, at this point I'm considered "mid-game", and the only things I can look forward to are getting carried for abso/umbra, grinding for cube money, and farming for nodes, which, will become shittier because bye bye Kish. In other words, the joys of progression are quickly consumed, leaving nothing but a slow, long, and expensive march towards end game gear.

For a brief moment in 2020, I had as close of a nostalgic "classic maple" experience as I've gotten since the late 2000's, which I am thankful for. However, it's evident that this game is not viable going forward, and all the corporate masters can do is try to milk as much money out of the player base by using dark patterns and gambling rein

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

I've been playing private servers since the very beginning. I think it was around 2007. Private servers were my way of enjoying the game Wizet had intended it to be, and never really left for long. I've seen good and bad servers and this made me really realize what a good or bad server makes. I think Legends is the best server ever made full-stop.

The reason for making this thread is to hope that after playing Maplestory servers for a collective 10.000+ hours, that someone might read this and think ''aha, why shouldn't I add this to my server''. Perhaps you do not like anything that I say, but here is my opinion.

What makes a good server

What makes a good server is actually not that complicated, and I will keep this part rather short because if I had to name everything, this would be a 17 page essay. Instead I'll give you the footnotes. The obvious like '' a stable server '' will be left out here.

• The owner has to be incredibly passionate about Maplestory, and should not be motivated by profit. The owner should also have a long history of contribution. If anyone knows Kimberly, you'd know she'd been around for ages.
• The owner may not be stubborn and therefore should be willing to listen. This is probably the hardest part. Royals for example is doing this terribly. Literally 90% of the server detests the Lounge button, yet to Matt this was nostalgic and therefore his truth. Do not do this. If 90% of the server is against something, you're almost always better off not doing it.
• Make a great team. Legends has a balance team where pseudoscience is consistently discussed. They really look at the data to balance things. It's FAR from perfect but better than anything I've ever seen.
• Keep developing for longevity. If your server is stuck for a year in the same cycle. Your server will die one way or another. QoL is king. Even at the cost of nostalgia.
• Community. Interact with your people, make your server feel like everyone is in a ship we need to keep up. Do this by events in various forms.
• Unique twist. I noticed that if a server is ''just nostalgic'', you're not going to make it. You'd need something like a race system ,a unique system or in Legends case a lot of variety such as custom drops, monster book ring, new maps or high resolution and so on.
• These are the semi to less obvious things that a lot of servers miss. The ''#1 server'' definitely misses a few here despite them claiming the contrary.
