A list of puns related to "Pellet fuel"
Hit me!!
I have a jar of hydrated wood pellets (turned into sawdust basically) that I inoculated today just to see what will happen. Iβm testing the theory of A.) it working and B.) it successfully colonizing without the spawn being pasteurized (as the pellets are basically pasteurized while heated and compacted)
I made sure to keep everything sterile. Wish me luck on my experiment :) any opinions?
Does anyone know of a local company that will deliver a ton of two of pellet fuel?
Had a discussion about UK energy policy and it got detailed, so I thought I'd post this here:
>I've now realized what's so annoying about that position. Everyone agrees that high standards should apply to wood pellet fuel - the trees should not come from national parks, or nature reserves, or land that's protected for any reason; fossil fuel emissions should be minimized at all stages of production if possible, and so on. But my bone to pick is with this sentiment:
>"But perhaps most valuable today is their role in storing carbon."
>You could say that about any land that would, if we weren't using it, have high vegetation cover (particularly marginally used land). Marginal includes a high proportion of lawns, large upland areas used for uneconomic grazing, large areas of tarmac and concrete covered ground used for unnecessarily car dependent living arrangements, and so on. Dedicated forest land for fuel is a better use than all of those.
>More importantly though is the accounting sleight of hand going on here. Wood pellet fuel displaces fossil fuels, particularly coal, on the grid (with the exception of gas peaker plants). This means that you have to compare the one-off loss of the carbon store of the forest plantation land with the on going indefinite CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels. There's no contest there - wood pellets win; and the plantations may revert to permanent forest eventually anyway.
>If there was any suggestion that wood pellet fuel was preventing further uptake of renewables then maybe you would have an argument, but there isn't, and if that was the case governments could easily change the rules of the energy auctions for the electric grid to favor renewables more. Gas peaker plants could perhaps prevent renewable adoption above say 50-75% renewable grid penetration (by competing with grid storage). But wood pellet fuel just isn't used in that way, it's purely a transitionary fuel to 100% renewables.

Follows on from this comment:
>There's this which has a figure of 60% less CO2 emissions than coal. This makes sense since you're only burning fossil fuel for some of the processing and the shipping; the CO2 emitted by burning the pellets was previously extracted by the tree growth so that net emission is ze

There are many sources which equate a per person quantity of nuclear fuel needed for a lifetime of energy from golfball size to shoebox size. My question is- how many nuclear fuel pellets would represent a lifetime of energy use for an average person?
I guess some specifics would be needed in the fuel composition and efficiencies to make a calculation, and the energy quantity for 'average' person. I'm not sure which are the best sources for these ATM.
I have the Antimatter Initiated Microfusion Reactor on my rocket, using KSPI-E of course, but I'm looking for a way to store more fusion pellets to power the reactor which is powering my warp drive, but i don't know what fuel tank/cargo part can hold them
Anyone have recommendations on pellet fuel sources? We've been getting bags from Lane Forrest products, I see home depot sells them, others? Thanks in advance
I have two main kinds of fuel pellets that are very affordable in my area. Home heating type- softwood blend (which is a mix of soft and hard) and a straight hardwood blend. Neither type specify what type of woods are in them or ratios.
Less affordable are Pit Boss brand Oak blend and Hardwood blend- at about 4x the price i have not looked into them yet.
The home heating types get harder to find as Spring comes on and are often not available until the following August i grabbed a few 40# bags of each.
I have read and seen some evidence of "oysters will grow on anything" so i figure i'll try them on the Softwood blend. I have Blue and King oyster LC to play with.
I bought some of the hardwood blend with the idea that they would work for Shiitake (75 & 3782), Lion's Mane and maybe Reishi. Planned on using Shinty_Six's Bucket Tek with those. Unsure if it would work with the Reishi due to the need for antlering. Also looking for advice on if the Shiitake 75 would be better used in trying to make plug spawn instead?
I also have Winecap and Enokitake , would Winecap work on the softwood blend? I think Enokitake needs the hardwood? Any good bottle tek suggestions for Enoki
What experiences has anyone had using Softwood blend and are there good recipes or is wheat bran good enough for nutrients? I do not have affordable access to soy hulls that i am aware of , though i have looked.
I have been studying for months and the internet is amazing and this community is also very helpful but getting the info from so many sources on so many types of mushrooms has been a little overwhelming and tough to consolidate.
When I was a kid I got a postcard with a fake uranium pellet attached to it. The card explained what the equivalents to the pellet would be in tons of coal, etc. I'd love to get my hands on a couple of these, but the few people I know who work at the local plants say they haven't seen them in years. Any idea where I could find a couple of these? ebay and amazon were a bust. Thanks!
I bought this probably 10 years ago. Then went through some financial strain, and had to sell it off. I think the person I sold it to lived in Ireland. Not sure how many of these exist in the world, but this item was certainly unique. Hopefully I can find something cool like this again in the future.
I just found this sub, and figure you are probably the only nerds like me that find stuff like this fascinating. If anyone sees this, I'd really love to get a pretty piece of pitchblend or ore. Or, and I know these are basically impossible to find, a piece of depleted uranium. Even if its just a counterweight from an old plane. Would really love to have one on display.
Have some mycelium colonizing cardboard right now was thinking of just throwing that into a jar of either oak sawdust pellets or some sort of wood chip (hickory?). Considering possibly adding coir as it will probably fill the spaces between the pellets or chips adding some more food for the myc.
However I've also considered going to grain first and using the grain to noc wood.
Ideas, suggestions, advice?
