Raised Ranch with a pellet stove on the main floor - Does anyone have fans that help blow the heat to the opposite side of the house? 72f on that side, 66fish on the other

Hi all, I have a Harmon Accentra insert on the main floor which is pretty amazing. It really fluctuates based on outside temp / inside temp and is super efficient. Keeps that side of the house at 72 and adjusts the feed rate automatically etc etc. It's great.

Other side of the house is the part above the garage. I'm just trying to move more heat onto that side. I have electric heat everywhere (each room is its own zone) but do not want to touch it even the slightest thanks to Eversource's rising rates.

Questions:

  • Should I barely crack a window on the opposite side of the house for draft movement? Does that work?

  • Should I get a fan like this and put it on one of the doors in the hallway?: https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-Controller-Fireplace-Circulation/dp/B009P0R6VC/

  • One of the bedrooms (of 3) on that end always has a closed door because it's a storage room. I assumed keeping it shut would help. Should I keep it open instead? Am I doing more harm keeping it closed?

Thanks

Battery Backup for Pellet Stove

Hello. Does anyone have suggestions for power backup for a pellet stove?

I am aware that a pellet stove is not the most prepper heat source, but I'm not trying to live off-grid and don't have many power outages. I just want to be able to have some heat for a few hours if/when power goes out.

The stove runs on 120 volt, 115 VAC, 60 Hz (standard a/c). Starting is a big draw as 4.1amps, though I wonder if I could start manually (or if it's already running it's a non-issue. Once it's going, running it requires 1.1 amps.

The manual says, "When operating with a generator you need a least 600 watts of power, or with an inverter at least 800 watts of power available for the appliance during the start cycle."

The stove manufacturer (QuadraFire) basically says to buy an inverter and run it off of a car/marine battery. This sounds pretty good but where to keep the battery? It needs to be able to plug into the inverter which needs to be connected to the stove, but it says not to put it too close to the stove. Not to mention I don't want children or pets messing with the battery. And I would want something that isn't an eyesore.

Any thoughts?

People in the U.S.: what's the best way to go about importing European wood stoves and pellet stoves?

I'm looking to replace my current Century wood stove. It's a bit small for my current space and will be repurposed in another part of the house or(safely) in an outbuilding. I love the look of ultra modern, ultra efficient, low profile European pellet and wood stoves. The only one I can find widely available are the hearthstone HASE stoves but tbh I prefer rectangular ones. Has anyone gone through the import process who can tell me how I can find a wood stove company that imports so I can go about getting a lovely Italian or German stove? I'm in the northeast but I'm willing to work with ones that aren't local. All info is helpful! Budget is up to $5000 per stove. (Not including shipping and install, of course)

Edit: I'm also willing to work with a Canadian importer and travel (COVID restrictions permitting)

Just moved in, have a pellet stove, where to buy pellets?

We just moved into a new house and the bedroom has a pellet stove in the fireplace. We've operated it for a few nights and it's a nice addition to the home's primary heating when we're going to sleep. We are soon going to run out of pellets, and I'm having a harder time than expected figuring out how to buy more.

  1. The pellet stove has very specific recommendations for ash content, moisture content, BTUs, etc. How important is it to follow those?
  2. It seems like you can either buy cheap shitty pellets at the hardware store, or order more specific pellets but only with a minimum of 2 tons or more ordered. I can't imagine we'll be using more than a 40 pound bag per winter, so buying by the ton doesn't seem to make sense. Any recommendations?

Confused by our new pellet stove, help required

My husband and I have just moved into our new home which has a Klover Smart 120 installed. We are trying to get a feel for it but we're a bit (actually very) confused by the setup. The house also contains an immersion heater and hot water storage tank. There is a separate Honeywell control panel on the wall beside the stove. Does this panel tell the stove to switch on, or do we programme the stove to switch on with its built in panel? Is there someone who wouldn't mind talking us through how to get to grips with hot water, heating and cooking? We're excited by our new system, but feeling quite daunted. Many thanks in advance.

The Wiseway Pellet Stove!

40K BTU, heats 600-2000 square feet, and a 16-28 hour run time on a 60lb hopper!

It looks easy, simple and foolproof. You can add warming shelves, and up to three water jackets to heat water.

I think I'll be adding this to my house this spring!

Pellets basket in a regular wood stove?

Hearthstone stove (Craftsbury) always leaves chunky coal bed at cool down. Even during the burn find the need to stir the coals to get them full burn down. Anyone use a pellet basket to solve it? I think it has to do with how + where the air flows into the box. By basket, I mean a basket allowing air to flow from the bottom and ash to fall thru.

Moved into a home with a pellet stove, looking for info on how to clean/maintain it.

As the title suggests. The pellet stove works fine, but I’ve done nothing to make sure that it works other than clean out the ash bin in the lower segment. I want to use a chimney sweeping tool, but I can’t figure out what part of the stove to even stick it in. It looks like the previous owner taped over the area I would want to stick a sweeper in with aluminum tape, but that can’t be right.

Here are some photos of the setup. Any links or tips would be greatly appreciated! I just don’t want to start a fire haha.

** Just so you all don’t think I’m being lazy here and putting in a low effort post - I have watched a bunch of tutorials online, and done a fair amount of googling, but none of the pellet stove setups on those resources look like mine.

I also found the user manual online, but it’s really not that helpful when it comes to maintenance. It was mostly about installation and adherence to codes.

Lastly, I called a few local stove cleaning services to take me through their process, but none of them were willing to β€˜show’ me how to clean it (even though I was willing to pay full price for a cleaning). I get it though - not their job to teach me.

Hopefully one of you can help!

Englander pellet stove 25-PVDC not feeding need advice.

Hello I am looking for some advice on my pellet stove. I Moved into house 2 years ago which the pellet stove was already installed and each winter it ran fine. Went to start it up for the first time this season and I can not get the pellets to feed. After first diagnosis I replaced a vacuum switch because I had not movement from my upper auger.

Problem solved both augers moved as should. Did a very deep clean before i started it up again. Put in a handful of pellets into the hopper and monitored the upper auger as it spun. I could see the pellets moving as the auger turned but not much falling down. The pellets that did fall lit as normal but there was no feeding of any other pellets. I moved them around by hand and the pellets would fall in to the lower auger then I put more in and the pellets still would not feed into the lower auger even tho the upper auger still was rotating. I have already taken both augers out and snaked through the hole from top to bottom auger to check for blockage but there was none. I put augers back in did a dry run both spin as normal but when pellets are in upper auger they will not fall down to the lower at all and I can’t solve it.

I tried 2 different brands of pellets with the same results one brand is smaller then the other but it made no difference. I can see the pellets in the upper auger moving as the top auger spins but they do not fall. If I make them fall down by hand the pellets will go down to the lower auger with no issue so I’m not sure what’s up.

Pellet stove help

Posted yesterday about my disappointment with my newly installed pellet stove - pelpro pp130.

https://www.reddit.com/r/woodstoving/comments/rgqbki/disappointed_in_pellet_stove/

Initially I thought it was just underpowered for my 800 sq foot uninsulated shop. But now I think maybe something might be wrong. I have watched a few videos of people getting the stove cranking and bringing their poorly insulated garage from 30 to 70 in a hour or so.

In contrast my stove just seems to blow warmish air. I can put my hand an inch away from the front vent/blower no problem. Not hot but warm like a normal hvac vent in my home. I had it running for a few hours tonight and my shop went from 30 to 34 degrees.

Are my expectations off for what this stove can do or is something messed up? What can I check? It’s vented vertically through the roof. No vent cap yet. Installer says it’s on order. Could this make a difference?

Only other thing is that the air intake is no hooked up to anything. It’s just pulling from the room. The installer said that it wasn’t necessary to vent the intake to the outside.

Thanks in advance

Disappointed in pellet stove

This is really just a rant but man am I disappointed in my new pellet stove (pelpro pp130b). Got it hooked up in my 800 sq ft shop today and it’s not doing anything. It’s about 30 out and shop temp is low 40s after running the stove on high for hours.

Shop is drafty and uninsulated but I thought I could at least get up to high 50s low 60s. Pellet stove is rated 40000 btus/2500 sq ft but the thing feels like a space heater. Guess it’s on me for thinking it would do the job.
