My 16yo neutered male cat has (very recently...today?) developed a small reddish lesion on the margin of his right nictitating membrane. Today was the first day I noticed this (please see attached pic). I have also attached two other pics from last week and the lesion does not appear to me to be present there. He's in my face every day, so I think I would have noticed it if had been present for longer. It jumped right out at me today. He does not appear to be in any discomfort.

His medical history is unremarkable except for a quick bout of FUS 3 years ago and he has been fine since then. He is a very healthy, spry little fellow.
We have two other cats in the house as well, and all three are strictly indoor cats.
I hope this is just a little scratch or something like that. He is so precious to me.
Thank you for any thoughts on this.
I think humans have been swimming and diving for a long time for fishing and sports, so shouldn't there still be some humans these days who have functional nictitating membranes?
