How does a lay person learn about which Essilor products to ask for?

Over the years I learned the terms Crizal Sapphire and High Index - this time I asked for Essilor and I assumed Essilor only offered Varilux with Crizal Sapphire. Now I wonder if not specifically requested, Progressive lenses can still be hi index and Sapphire but not Varilux?

When a lab is referred to - is it the middle of the supply chain- between optician and Essilor manufacturer? or only for custom orders? Do opticians order from Essilor or a local lab?

Are they making Crizal Sapphire lenses to order? or do they have stock single vision lenses with Crizal Sapphire? What exactly does the lab do if optician is cutting and mounting?

Can Crizal Sapphire now be β€œapplied” at labs to other brands than Essilor?

I think many consumers might be interested in how to understand lens/coating types and confirm their finished frames are correct if electing pricey add-ons.

I am starting to understand that there be no way to verify certain features which seems crazy at these price points for complex RX’s.

Should opticians always provide a card of authenticity with a set of Crizal Sapphire lenses?

If not is it a red flag?

Hoya vs. Essilor (and other brands)

I'm getting new glasses soon and was wondering if there's any noticeable difference between mainstream brands of eyeglass lenses? I've heard a few times that Zeiss is a bit too expensive and Hoya is comparable/almost the same quality for less money. There's also Essilor, which is very popular here in Europe, but I've seen some complaints on discussion boards online – mostly related to coatings, which apparently Hoya does better, quality-wise?

The optics store I'm getting my new glasses at works with Essilor as a standard, so they probably prefer it the most for some reason. I'm leaning more towards Hoya from what I've learned.

My prescription isn't too strong, both eyes are less than -2 in diopters (+ some small cylinders), I'm mildly myopic. I definitely want higher quality antiglare/hydrophobic coating and that's probably it. Not interested in blue light blocking lenses, for example.

Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

Any experiences with Essilor AVA (Advanced Vision Accuracy)?

The page at https://www.essilor.co.uk/ava-in-store-optician-experience states that AVA measures the dioptre down to the nearest 0.01 rather than 0.25 as it is usual with eye tests, therefore providing a more accurate prescription.

Has anyone tried this before? Or asked an optician about it?

Essilor Eyezen & Zeiss Digital/Smartlife

Hi

So these lenses which add a small power for reading .5 dioptres, is it added on the single vision as a booster or more like a bifocal with no base power in that area ? Secondly could these make eyes dependent and push someone closer to pressbiopia where they cannot do with normal single vision lenses ? Are these pure marketing gimmick & how they differ from bifocals and progressives ? Will they work with small frames 26 to 30/32 mm height ? How will it impact astigmatism ? Any of your patients report better outvomes for near work like reading computer etc.

Long one I know but thanks for taking the time to read the query.

Thank You

Anyone ever have a problem with the Essilor CS550 Chart System remote displaying the wrong line when you press a number? For instance, if I press 7(400),it'll display 9(100,80). I've been trying to find a solution and I can't figure it out.

Why did my optometrist insist on Zeiss or Essilor lenses?

Hey Optometrists, I got my eyes checked and they came out as shitty:

Right: -4,25 / -0,25 cil / 20Β°

Left: -4,50 / -0,50 cil / 125Β°

He said I absolutely need to have top quality lenses (Zeiss or Essilor), why though? These are guaranteed to be very expensive, is it just because they can be thinner on a metal frame?

Essilor Crizal AR crazing

I have an issue with severe crazing of the "Essilor Crizal AvancΓ©" AR coating. My lenses are only 6 months old and they suddenly became crazed after working outside one day when it was very hot. It's bad enough that it's causing tons of glare/reflections and is affecting my vision.

The lab claims that my lenses are indeed crazed, but this is not covered under the Essilor Crizal warranty. They are claiming this is a result of customer neglect and is not a manufacturer defect.

Is this information true or are they trying to get out of processing a warranty claim? Also, is this crazing common with Essilor Crizal coatings?

Is there much of a difference between going from the store premium AR to a branded premium AR? (Hoya, Zeiss, Essilor). I’m more than happy with my current lenses regardless.

My lenses last me two years and more and can’t fault them at all.

They are the stores own brand lenses with; Single Vision, CR39, 1.6 Index which has a hard coat applied with UV Protect, Oleophobic and Hydrophobic coatings applied to them - I’m told.

It makes me wonder sometimes if I’m missing out from the big brands, though they are more costly. There’s Hoya, Essilor and Zeiss available here; DuraVision Platinum, Essilor Sapphire UV and unsure about the Hoya options.

Is there any difference between the big brands if i did make the switch to any one of them?

Nikon Relaxsee vs Essilor Eyezen

I just had an eye test done recently and while my vision was good all around it was recommended that I may benefit with a bit of boost for near. The prescription is basically plano in both eyes with a boost of +1 so their recommendation is an anti fatigue lens like the Relaxsee.

I work with computers all day, looking at a couple of monitors and tablet/phone throughout the day. My main concern is with how wide the field of view is through the lens as it looks like some lenses have a narrow FOV than others.

For those with experience with these two lenses, how comparable are they and is there really much of a difference between them? I can’t find much concrete evidence as to how they’re made, just some general advice like the Eyezen being better for phone usage and the Relaxsee being better for computer usage but without an actual reason given.

Glasses lenses: Hoya Sensity vs Essilor Gen 8/ Transitions Gen 8

Hello eveyone,

I am looking to buy some photochromatic lenses for my new pair of glasses and I was wondering which one of these two have the faster response time for turning dark and then turning back light.
Essilor/Transitions just came out last year with their latest 8 generation model as compared to the Hoya's Sensity which is on the market for around 5 years now. I know that Hoya came out this year with Sensity generation 2 but unfortunately it is not available in my country.
Worth mentioning that I will also opt for a blue light filter treatment for the lenses.
