Peptide for presbyopia?

I have seen Visoluten posts for myopia and dry eyes. I also saw posts saying that due to the nature of presbyopia, hardening of the lenses in the eye, that Visoluten would not target it. Are there any peptides that do target the eye's lenses?

Is there a name for this, or is it just presbyopia?

I'm 69, so well into presbyopia territory. I have a small amount of accommodation left. When I focus close for some time, e.g. looking at hand held device, my left eye gets very blurry. Anyway, when I then look at the distance, that eye remains blurry. It takes maybe 1/2 hour before it can see distance clearly again. When it's blurry, it can't see clearly at any distance. If I walk around outside, it can see distance all day with no problems. It's only after I spend time focusing up close that this happens.

Is this just a normal part of presbyopia, or something else? Is there a name for this condition?

How Dr. Bates cured himself of Presbyopia - and began his discoveries - in his own words!

Better Eyesight Magazines, February 1922

> READING WITHOUT GLASSES

> By W. H. Bates, M. D.

> A PATIENT asked me how I discovered so many truths about eyesight. It may emphasize the facts and their value, if I relate the events connected with the discovery of these truths.

> P. T. Barnum, many years ago, wrote an essay on "How to Make Money." In the opening sentence he stated that he felt that he was able to write an essay on how to make money because he had made money. Perhaps, similarly, as I have established medical truths I am encouraged to write how it was done.

> About ten years ago I was talking to a friend of mine who showed me a letter which he desired me to read. At that time I was wearing glasses, but only for reading and on account of my age, not then knowing any means of doing without them for that purpose. My glasses were mislaid and it took me some time to find them while my friend impatiently waited. Being a friend, of course, he had the license to say things to me in a way he would not to his worst enemy.

> Among other disagreeable things he said, and the tone was very emphatic, sarcastic, disagreeable, insulting: "You claim to cure people without glasses; why don't you cure yourself?" I shall never forget those words. They stimulated me to do something. I tried by all manner of means, by concentration, strain, effort, hard work, to enable myself to, become able to read the newspaper at the near-point.

> After a few weeks, a few months, it dawned on me that ail my efforts were useless. Previously, it had been my custom when I could not do a certain thing myself to look around and find somebody to help me, and so in the present instance I went looking for help. My old friends, the eye doctors, laughed at me and told me that I was crazy to think of the possibility of such a thing. They repeated to me the old established theories that accommodation is produced by change in the curvature of the crystalline lens. In youth, the lens readily changes its form or its ability to focus. With advancing age the lens, like the bones, the cartilages, becomes hard, loses its elasticity or its ability to change its shape and the eye no longer can change its focus from distant to near objects.

Lasik/SMILE, presbyopia and myopia

This is not something I see very often discussed and I'm struggling to find good information.

Everyone starts having presbyopia around the age of 45 and will need reading glasses, that's a well known fact. It is my understanding that when presbyopia hits it's actually an advantage to be mildly myopic, as myopia compensates the effects of presbyopia [1] - thus myopic people are less likely to need reading glasses unlike someone who had "perfect vision" all their lives.

If the above is true, then I can't see the point in getting lasik if you're mildly myopic? You'd essentially be trading close-up vision for long-distance vision by the time you hit 45.

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above.

Presbyopia - How fast does it progress typically?

I'm 36 and was diagnosed with "early age-related presbyopia" 2 years ago and received a prescription for "readers". About 6 months ago I started getting headaches and experiencing eye strain when looking at the computer screen or my phone so I tried using the "readers" which felt too strong for that use. In July of 2020 they used my readers prescription to convert it to a "computer glasses" prescription (due to me being hesitant to get a new exam / prescription because of COVID). Unfortunately, I'm already feeling eye strain and getting headaches again when using these devices with my computer glasses. I've tried on the old "readers" and the prescription feels "off", but not nearly as overly strong as it originally did. I'm guessing my presbyopia has progressed, and the updated "computer" prescription (using a year old "readers" prescription) was made too weak.

Does that sound reasonable, or would you be concerned by how quickly things have progressed? Also, anything you'd recommend bringing up at my appointment? I didn't know "computer glasses" were different from "reading glasses", so I'd love to hear feedback on other things to mention that might not be obvious.

Other factors to consider:

  • Diabetic (Under control - A1C of 6.4 - 7.4 for many years)
  • Original prescription for my "reading glasses" wasn't as strong as typical "readers" that you would buy online without a prescription.
  • Slight astigmatism
  • Previously had Lasik to correct nearsightedness (roughly 8 - 12 years ago)

Mild undercorrection (monovision) before presbyopia sets in

I am having a Schwind TransPRK procedure in 4 days. I'm 38 years old with -5D in both eyes with 0.5 cylinder. I don't have problems with near vision and reading till now.

Should I under-correct my non-dominant eye by -1D or -1.5D to ensure I won't need to wear a reading glass in a few years due to presbyopia?

My doctor has left it up to me since I don't have presbyopia yet. He did suggest I try the power with spectacles on the day of the procedure to see if I'm comfortable. Don't have time to test the power with contacts though.

LASIK for presbyopia? Successes?

So I'm almost 3 years into having presbyopia, I never really gave contacts a try since after 2 weeks I gave up on trying to get them in correctly and was told about a year ago at my last visit with the ophthalmologist (upon my asking) that I'd be a candidate for LASIK. Has anyone had experience (hopefully positive outcomes) with it in terms of reading in particular (I have slight astigmatisms in both eyes, first one, 2 years later the other, reading with 2.0)? I've decided I've lost my last $700 pair of progressives (2 nice $$ readers before that) and I'm hellbent on doing this if it'll help. I definitely concur on how much presbyopia in and of itself sucks - I was still 20/20 at 42 until it started to go downhill from there. Smh. I know many can relate - I was always the "lucky" one with the "good eyesight" in the family as my parents both wore glasses since childhood and my poor brother was cursed with keratoconus and endured double corneal transplants, but still.... I'm just not doing well with holding on to glasses and I hate taking them on and off even working from home during COVID !! Anyhoo, thanks in advance for any input. =)

Presbyopia / old age / contacts help

Trouble with disposable lenses?

I am 54 years old, had worn contacts for years, got lasik and it wore off after 12 years. Did glasses for a while, now am back in contacts. After much trial an error found lenses I can see out of. Because I now have presbyopia, finding contacts that worked for my distance and close up vision had been a challenge. B&L Ultra for Prebyopia does a good job for me. But it is a monthly contact and I really want daily disposables. For some reason the disposable (same Rx) I tried does not work. (Bio True for presbyopia) I simply cannot see out of them. The distance is fine but midrange and close up are nonexistent. Same prescription of course.

So - was curious did this have anything to do with the nature of disposable contacts (thin material, etc). Or perhaps may other brands work better for me? I assumed all prescriptions would be the same.

I put out a lot of protein and my house is dusty , so I would love love love disposables, but no luck so far. Advice?

Thanks so very much!

HELP!!! 44 years old complain having glare at near for both eyes. Unaided distance vision was 6/6 for both eyes and near vision was N6@56 cm. He has low AA and final subjective rx were :

OD: -0.50DC X180 (6/6) OS: +0.25DS/-0.50DC X90 (6/6) ADD:+1.25D (N5@40cm)

What type of lens should be prescribed (bifocal/trifocal) since he is a first time wearer? or can we just give reading glasses (since distance VA is 6/6). Does the distance astigmatism crucial? I know he complain regarding near glare and I heard about eyes cyclorotate but how do we measure near astigmatism?

Question about myopia and presbyopia

Hi everyone,

I'm currently scheduled to get PRK next week as a mildly myopic person (OD: -1.0, -1.25 @ 155 OS: -0.75, -1.0 @ 33). I've started having cold feet because I've been learning how mild myopia can counteract the effects of presbyopia later on in life.

My question is, if my vision remains the same prescription into my 40s (I'm 26 currently), will I be able to get away without needing readers?

Any other advice or tips regarding PRK surgery would also be appreciated, thanks!

Side effects of using reading glasses for Presbyopia ?

Hi,

I use my eyes a lot, both for reading or screen time. Started having problems reading small text and doing fine manipulations (threading a needle, soldering, etc.) in the spring . Eventually realized I've got Presbyopia and was prescribed 1.5 diopter reading glasses. The glasses work great, no complaints, however ...

I also have glasses I wear most of the time to correct my low astigmatism (~0.75 cylinder) that have also 0.5 sphere. I've had such glasses for the last ~10 years on and off, mostly on (doctors can't agree if I need them).

I started using the reading glasses ~2mo ago and suspect my vision has changed as a result. For example I stopped being comfortable watching TV with my all-round glasses, Since couple of weeks I'm more comfortable watching TV without any glasses. Before I practically could wear these glasses all day long (when inside) and forget about them, they felt that natural.

I see also other small things that may signal my eyes are not comfortable wearing the old glasses, so I'm curious if I'm imagining that somehow my eyes were "reset" or re-calibrated after relieving them from the strain to compensate for the Presbyopia**.**
