A list of puns related to "Check in"
We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we're here together!
Welcome to the 24 hour pledge!
I'm pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.
Maybe you're new toΒ r/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you're like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you've been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.
It doesn't matter if you're still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!
This pledge is a statement of intent.
Today we don't set out trying not to drink, we make a conscious decision not to drink. It sounds simple, but all of us know it can be hard and sometimes impossible. The group can support and inspire us, yet only one person can decide if we drink today. Give that person the right mindset!
What happens if we can't keep to our pledge? We give up or try again. And since we're here inΒ r/stopdrinking we're not ready to give up.
What this is: A simple thread where we commit to not drinking alcohol for the next 24 hours, posting to show others that they're not alone and making a pledge to ourselves. Anybody can join and participate at any time, you do not have to be a regular atΒ r/stopdrinking or have followed the pledges from the beginning.
What this isn't: A good place for a detailed introduction of yourself, directly seek advice or share lengthy stories. You'll get a more personal response in your own thread.

AFGO: Another F*cking Growth Opportunity!
Good morning Sobernauts! I am super pumped to be hosting the DCI this week. A big huge βThank you!β to u/SaintHomer for doing all that you so graciously do and to u/cypress_ for effortlessly guiding us all last week. More than anything Iβm beyond grateful to be here with you all. If you learn anything about me this week itβs that I love acronyms, slogans and bad words. Iβll try my hardest to keep the latter in check.

Iβm going to start this by saying how humbled & honored I am to be hosting this week. Iβve thought about it for quite awhile. So, thanks for putting up with me this week!
Today is Easter, and regardless of your religious affiliations (or lack thereof), seasonal change is a time of renewal. If nothing else, whatβs not to love about a chocolate bunny or two! ;) So I am going to take today to reflect on a few thoughts of renewal, and encourage you all to do the same if youβd like to share a bit.
First of all, we each wake up every day with a chance to write our script for the day. I mean ... not the whole thing. I havenβt yet managed to

So. I just have 2 crazy calls that made me give myself some unneeded stress and it wasn't even my fault...
I was laying in bed enjoying not having to do anything this morning and just letting my brain wander around and I get a phone call and ignore it from a number I don't recognize but they leave a voicemail. A few minutes later, I get a call from scheduling at work.
Them: "Hey, good morning its (name) from scheduling. I'm calling because you have a student and parent waiting on you..."
immediatly sit up and enter panic mode and check the clock... 8:55... I didn't think I had to go in early today....
Me:"What? I start in the afternoons..."
Them: "it shows right here on my schedule, your first scheduled lesson is 8:45. "
engage panic and apology mode
Me:"omgimsorry. Ididntrealizetheschedulechanged. iwillbethereasfastasican" start throwing my clothes all over and speed dressing.
Them: "you should really print your schedule the day before every day. I'll call the parent to let them know you are on the way" hangs up
Me brain: Damnit, WTF did you do? you have NEVER missed a lesson, you even printed the schedule last night and checked it before bed. How could you let this happen and ruin your perfect streak???
Me, out loud to myself: "WAIT. I did print my schedule...."
wanders to my office halfway dressed and checks, I see the students name on the schedule for 8:45.... PM.
... I call back scheduling...
Me: "Hi, so I checked my schedule and my lessons don't start till 2:45pm and that student is set for 8:45 TONIGHT."
Them: "What? Oh yeah. It says PM. Are are still willing to go in early?"
Me: "No...."
Them: "Ok, have a good day, sorry about that!" * hangs up*
I listened to the voicemail and it was an upset parent yelling/complaining I was late and that they weren't going to accept the charges for a missed appointment since they had gotten up early to get there ahead of time to make sure they didn't miss it....
I deleted it.
So, just a big giant oof and a reminder to myself (and you guys) that we shouldn't always be so quick to always accept blame and apologize for something because sometimes it is someone else at fault. I know that, myself at least, I usually am the one making the mistakes so I am fast to apologize and to try and make it right, but that almost sent me in to work 6 hours early today, thankfully my "overpreparing" to cope with my ADHD saved me f
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hi all,
I'm a 20-something who's been working for around 5 years. In that time I've accumulated around 40k in pension contributions. My company's private pension plan was setup with Aviva. I'd never paid much attention to _what_ my pension contributions were going into, trusting to sense on the part of the default plan.
I've grown somewhat in my financial literacy and wanted to take a look at the details a few months ago. Turns out my pension contributions were going into a fund that had roughly 40% in Bonds and the rest in UK equities. The performance graph had my investments pretty much returning NOTHING over the last few years - the contributions line and the pension value line were the same. For my own ISA investments I would never have picked a fund like this, and would have instead chosen 100% equities on a Vanguard low-cost North American index (or something like VWRP for that international diversification).
I don't know why the default fund was set to this - I'm young so the volatility of stocks isn't an issue. I've since adjusted the fund to be the Aviva Pensions BlackRock US Equity Index Tracker S6 fund, and now the performance graph is showing the growth I'd expect it to (up 3k over the last few months).
At the end of the day, you pick your poison. Maybe you wouldn't mind being 40% bonds in your 20's and maybe you'd balk at me selecting a US index if I'm in the UK. Key point for this is - know the details of what your money is invested in so that you're happy with the results.
Hi. Recently I have seen some more posts about people getting scammed for a 6-linked item where the scammer sells them a non-linked variant instead.
Now if you use Awakened PoE Trade as your trade macro you can price check an item in the trade window and it will tell you if it's a 6-link or not. This is what you will be looking for. You can use this to double-check the links to make sure it is indeed a 6-link on items where links can be harder to see (Carcass Jack for example) or when you are tired and maybe not paying the most attention etc.
I don't know about other trade macros but if it tells you that an item is 6-linked then it's good and it should work. Hope this small tip can help you someday.
About an hour ago as of the publication of this post, I went to the FT and was FLOORED to see Kenny G in a subheadline under the Archegos story warning about "inflation risk" and that the "stimulus cheques" will trigger inflation and that the retail boom combined with ETFs will crash the market. This is exactly what I said in my "mystery of the negative beta solved" post (https://www.reddit.com/r/GME/comments/mcwu5m/mystery_of_the_negative_beta_solved_hfs_are/) - that the GME hedgies are net short on their portfolio, that they flipped the betas to engineer a market crash and to come out of it with a profit and that ETFs are possibly the intersection and most vulnerable risk point of the markets. But I could not have imagined what kind of a troll of all trolls you have to be to go on the FT and shamelessly in front of the financial media and your financial colleagues say that "doomsday" is coming, caused by bonds, retail traders and inflation. Of course it doesn't make sense. Any financial professional will know that. It is a big FU to apes but it is also a big FU to everyone in the market. Kenny G wants everyone to know that he can do what he wants.
Let me translate for Kenny G: "I know that you know. You know that I know. FU apes. I'm burning this house down. And FU all asset managers, pension funds, mutual funds, etc. in the market. I'm shaking you out with this Archegos sell-off because if you don't sell out now out of the stocks you like, the burn is going to be worse. Eat my inflation analysis." It is basically one big troll post. He put it in the FT so that the normies wouldn't see it.
He even reproduces the chart that I kept showing of the retail traders and market makers. But in a mocking way. Twisting it to say that it will be our fault for changing the market. It's really passive aggressive. I don't want to link to the article directly. Go to the FT for yourself to see it.
As for the Archegos story, I was very suspicious about it, I am suspicious that Yahoo (my beta troll) had the exclusive on this, printing the story ahead of everyone else with "Exclusive" in the headline, and cites only their "sources" and "people familiar with the matter". CNBC is also very sure about the reliability of the "sources". Everyone else though is only "wondering" or reporting that this is "said" to be the case.
Remember when Forbes put out the article about how a

I know itβs all relative and I am not meaning to sound arrogant but just yeah sometimes it surprises me when I read so many queries about such small investment amounts because people talk and act like they are talking about much larger sums.
On April 15th 2020, buying Bitcoin with $1,200 at ~$7,000 would have been a great investment yielding a 760% gain today, or a total of $10,300.
This goes to show how much can be gained in a bull market. Will cryptos meteoric rise continue? Nobody knows.
People say the best time to buy was yesterday. The second best time is today. In reality, many assets appreciate over time so planning longterm and not investing more than you can lose is recommended.
The transaction is still pending into my bank account, but I'm sure it will get there in time. I woke to 60k BTC and had a good talk with my wife about 3 stimulus packages and inflation, plus Michael Saylor yoloing his whole company into BTC. Safe to say that she was convinced. Let's continue upward friends.

This quote, which I read in my second month of sobriety, stopped me cold in my tracks. It's what erased that search for the "third door" (an option besides drinking or sobriety - like there's got to be something else, right?)
"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."
(It's from the Gospel of Thomas, a possible apocryphal text that didn't make it into the Bible, and to clarify I am non-religious but just find it powerful).
It was that wasted potential and shame that k

It's a pleasure to be hosting the DCI again after nearly 8 sober months. I often struggle to find time in the mornings to interact beyond my daily pledge, but I am glad I can give back to the community that has been so instrumental in my success.
When I do have a bit more time at the weekends, I sometimes feel like I'm out of the loop. The stalwarts who are here posting and commenting every day seem to all know each other and my insecurities sometimes ask, 'Who am I to comment on others' conversations?'
I wondered if others might have the same worries, so I thought I would take this opportunity to encourage everyone to interact today. I

I hope everyone was able to add something to their self-soothing toolkit yesterday. I am putting some of it into practice this morning as I dreamt I was wandering in the city at night and agreed when a stranger asked if I wanted to 'party'.
In the dream I woke up dishevelled and hideously hungover in a strange place. Drinking dreams are scary!
This raises a good point as I know exactly where the dream came from. Over the past few days I have binge-watched a TV show with lots of alcohol use/misuse, unwise sexual activity and upsetting themes.
There were a couple of points where my gut suggested that maybe this wasn't the best bedtime vi

Hello Sobernauts! I am so excited and happy to be your host for this week. The DCI is my favourite place on the Internet because of all you wonderful people, sharing this path together with me.
I have a theme which is not music related! I want to write this week instead about maintaining good mental health without using alcohol to self medicate. I have Bipolar Disorder 2 and used to drink daily, pretty heavily, to βhelpβ my moods. In my manic episodes I would drink to celebrate anything - it being a Tuesday, my cat being sociable for a change, or whatever. In anxious times I would drink to reduce mental stress. And I would se

Top O' the Morning to all Sobernauts on this beautiful St. Patrick's Day!
While looking for an interesting fact about SPD, I learned that Leprechauns (born prior to the "Me, Too" era) like to pinch anyone they can see. Folklore says that wearing green makes us invisible to Leprechauns thus saving us from a pinch!
With all the parades and festivities happening today, this seems like a fine time to point out my favorite line from the DCI:

I am grateful to have been able to host this week. It's such a joy to see so many of my fellow sisters and brothers not only reach milestones, but take the time to welcome new people or offer a kind word to those who are struggling with difficulties at this time. When Iβm not hosting, one of my favorite things to do is sort by βnewβ when I check into the DCI and respond to a few of the comments from people who post around the same time I do. Itβs kind of nice to see recurring usernames over time from people who have similar DCI habits as I do. It makes me feel so connected to the community! Try it today if you have an extra minute!
