My dad asked me for some help. He has a wire recording from his father (my grandfather) and he has no idea what's one it. Can anyone here help me get the audio off of a wire recording, even if it's just a playback so my dad can know what's on it?

I'm an amateur British Nature lover who enjoys just sitting and sometimes recording nature for fun. Recently I've been fascinated with the life underwater in the Canals and rivers near me and was wondering if anyone had any advice on ways to record areas I wouldn't physically be able to get to (I'm basically thinking a camera on a line that hooks up to a screen or something).
The vast majority of underwater drones are far too expensive for an amateur like myself so the solution I'm looking for would need to be under £100. I wouldn't be able to enter the water physically so it would have to be something I coukd throw in and just watch and record from the Riverside.
Currently my playback device is on "Speakers - RealTek" and recording on "Stereo Mix" but only output works(I only hear sounds, can't record anything) and my PC picks up no sound from my earphones or any other device's mic.
I connect my earphones to the jack with headphones logo, not the microphone one. Only my PC has this problem.
Whats a small wire or cable I can wear that will immediately record someone IE it can connect to the cloud.
I used to have a Charlie Parker album made from wire recordings some kid (I think) made off of his radio from a radio show broadcast from Birdland (I think). Does any one know which album it is?
I recently inherited some old reel to reel tapes and some tins of recording wire. Any tips on places I can find players to listen to them with ( I know recording wire is harder to find players for, just curious)
I got a wire recorder for Christmas and I was wondering if it’s possible to use any wire to record audio? Finding unused original wire probably won’t be easy but I really wanna try recording something (if it even works, haven’t tried yet)
So I was curious. I am not currently in a position to purchase the odd setup of cords required for my Elgato HD 60 to record game chat while I am playing on my xbox. I was thinking about it and I feel like I came up with a temporary workaround. I was curious to see what ya'll think
If I set my Xbox to play my party chat through my tv speakers, and have my headset on which I use for the mic audio which OBS records along with my webcam and xbox, would it possibly pick up the sound from my tv as well as my voice? I sit pretty close to the tv, and can set it so the only sound coming out of the TV is the party chat since the elgato is feeding the game audio to OBS the game sound would still be there. Maybe this would work?
