In a change from the endless "moving to NYC" posts, let's talk about NYC sports/announcers.
No matter the sport, in your opinion, which broadcast has the best play by play/color team and why?
My vote goes to Gary/Ron/Keith for the Mets (& I'm a Yankees fan). Their blend of knowledge, delivery and overall non-assholery makes me a fan.
It's March 14th, 2021. A Sunday evening, and the Avs are playing the Los Angeles Kings at home. The game is being broadcast by NBCSN. You're at home, the bar, or wherever watching the Avs dominate the Kings in what would be a 4 to 1 victory.
But there's something you, me, and the Colorado Avalanche community missed. At first glance it seems like nothing but a colorful commentary about the absolute wall that is none other than Phillip Grubauer. But you would be wrong if you thought that friends.
It happened in the second period when Andreas Athanasiou made an attempt at scoring on our glorious brick wall of a goaltender. He breaks through the neutral zone into our zone, sneaking his way past 4 Avs, but Grubauer of course, was having none of it. That's when you hear it.
"Grooby-Dooby-Doo right there."
We all heard it during the game. We all thought it was a simple reference to the children's show, Scooby Doo.
We were wrong.
You see. This was a prediction, nay a statement. He wasn't saying "Grooby-Dooby-Doo". He was saying "Gruby-Duby-Deux. Two goalies in tandem guarding one net.
Grubauer. Dubnyk. Deux.
They realised it wasn’t near the camera at all once the enormous, stadium-sized pigeon started snapping up athletes.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
Idk man, I feel like this is a great feeling, for a shit ton of reasons depending on your personality. It can be “man I can do this shit.” Or maybe you’re less familiar with sports and are not confident talking to them about people and you think “man I know more than I thought.” I don’t know why but that’s a good feeling.
When I want to watch sports, I just want to watch sports. I obviously have no problem with women being attractive, but I swear it’s 95% of women sports commentators (in the United States) which also contradicts what women desire - a fair opportunity based on their sports knowledge and communication skills, not simply based on how they look.
Those 95% that I hear commentating typically don’t have much to say to be honest, I haven’t been impressed. I love listening to Doris burke, she’s incredibly knowledgeable and doesn’t draw attention to her appearance, whereas so many other women sports commentators it looks like a fashion show, they’re wearing low cut shirts or super tight clothes, and the way they carry themselves they seem to care much more about how they look on camera than what they have to say. This isn’t a fashion magazine or sports illustrated swimsuit edition, just give me sports commentary and some storyline and take the emphasis away from looks and more on sports.
I’m sure there are plenty of qualified women out there that are looking for a shot but haven’t been given it due to the fact that they don’t look like models. Shoutout to you women and I hope you get a shot.
