A list of puns related to "Speech And Debate"
My school started the speech and debate club last year, and it was just really neat when we finally started going to competitions. Itβs been a bit more complicated this year, and I myself have been jumping from event to event (last year and this year) to try and figure out which one Iβd like/do best at.
One user claims that Alex Jones's fans are easily persuaded, some users takes offense. (21 children)
User asks why people would sympathize with Alex Jones, ends up causing a somewhat lengthy slap fight, (25 children)
Bonus Highlights:
User points out that Alex Jones might not be innocent, other users decide to disagree. (12 children)
Is this censorship? Are Democrats evil? Is throttling censorship?
How do I get my point across that aliens exist so far I have: Absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence, only four percent of the universe has been discovered, Drake's equation... I'm stuck after that.
My school has a rule that makes you do debate and speech, which honestly seems like a waste of time to me. I do extemp, which is fine since I don't have to prep much other than downloading articles, and really the extra knowledge on politics/economic stuff helps in pf rounds. But it must be hella hard for people who do a debate event and also a speech event like OO, info, or interp events, since you need to memorize. But I digress. In general, I feel like making people do both (the exceptions possibly being extemp and congress since they force you to learn shit and become a better speaker) just makes them less likely to succeed in both, since you have to split your attention.
So, out of curiosity, is there is anyone you know of who competes successfully on the nat circuit in both a speech and a debate event? Or does each thing take up too much time to be able to get that good at both?
Its almost pathetic that like I get bothered by losing. But this year has just been horrid and I canβt seem to advance in any speech tournament I enter. I love this activity and seeing everyone around me succeed, even the friends I love the most, makes me feel insignificant at times. Ugh man.
Resolved: The United States should replace means-tested welfare programs with a universal basic income.
High school students around the country will be debating this in February. Very interested in seeing how this goes!
People often believe that trolls are here to make life harder and destroy a good conversation, but I believe that trolls actually remember people about the basics and the weak points of their widespread arguments and beliefs, and those points are often conveniently ignored or dismissed.
It is funny how often people online, specially on Reddit, do not consider a troll someone who diminishes religious, Western or conservative beliefs, but they do consider trolls and even ban accounts of people who do the same on progressive values and leftist assumptions. Trolls put the limits of free speech and social acceptance on test and expose the hypocrisy and double standard of echo chambers.
No, this does not mean those people deserve a platforms, and I'm not arguing here what they law should say or what platform they must use. I'm saying that trolling is important, specially in echo chambers as some places in Reddit, 4chan and many other sites. This is rather a personal invitation to accept trolling and have a laugh on it, and even question our own assumptions at the face of "trolling", so we don't take things so seriously and become extremists.
I wanna do a speech and debate piece about/of JJBA. Any pieces out there? I could use?
It didn't really affect my debate skills as I had only two rounds; however, I became a lot funnier making several jokes per minute and having complete crackhead energy.
EDIT: I was able to get a lotta help thru some ppl in this sub. bless up and thank yβall π€§
Bkgnd info: High school was my first year of exposure to formal speech & debate. There aren't any classes at my school, but only the club, and only the student cabinet members guided me in my first year in the club. Junior year comes and there are barely any practices, nor tournaments. This year, I'm the president and I'm so scared because I have never come close to winning anything, yet I'm in this top position. I have only done OI (taking out my complete flop in trying impromptu) but there's a VP who can lead debate stuff.
...I guess I'm asking for any advice (I'll list some questions below). This is more for interp/speech events since I'm pretty sure I won't be directing debate stuff, but if you want to say anything in general, go ahead.
-how is YOUR speech and debate club or class run?
-Any good sources for OI? DI? HI? Duo? speeches
-If you did OO, what was the process of creating your script? What were your sources of inspiration/topic of speech? How much time did you spend writing out and polishing your script before the first tournament?
-For the average person, how much time should be allocated towards memorizing the speech?
-general or specific tips for speech? I know the basic aspects of appeal but anything would be good (gestures, pacing, tone, eye contact, what you've done when something didn't go as planned, ETCETERA)
-how do awards ceremonies go (I've never been to oneπ )
-general advice for speech&debate?
-general advice for directing an organization?
Sorry this is a lot but I hope you smart and confident speech and debate ppl can give me a sense of direction for this year. (edit) btw Iβm freaking out cause I donβt have experience in anything other than OI and I overheard people wanting to participate in duo and HI. time for me 2 miserably fail. βppreciate anything. Thanks for yo time...if I get replies.
What I won was a giant california raisin plush thing that was (apparently) found in a dumpster by the seniors.
