Announcement from Helium: OG and RAK/MNTD Hotspot Sync
Helium and RAK Support teams are aware of the fact that many OG and RAK/MNTD Hotspots are not issuing challenges and may be out of sync. Here's a summary of what's going on and what's being done about it.
Support teams noticed that many Hotspots were not only struggling to stay in sync, they also had 95% or more of their disks full. This was causing poor disk performance. When a Hotspot restarts, it checks whether or not the disk is too full and if it is, the Hotspot will wipe its disk / reload the chain from a Snapshot. (As mentioned previously, this is the reason why some Hotspots that seem to be working go back to syncing mode.)
If the Snapshot isn't too far behind, this process only takes a few hours, but currently, Validators aren't able to automatically generate them. Core developers are manually blessing snapshots. (There are a few bug fixes in the works to address this.) The most recent Snapshot is about 3100 blocks behind and we're working on being able to manually bless a more recent one.
Last night, the Helium support team decided to force all Hotspots within their control to restart and if they had full disks, they would have cleared and reloaded from Snapshot. We suspect these Hotspots will be syncing for a few hours or up to a day. We did this by issuing a 2022.01.12.2 release (which is identical to 2022.01.12.1). We also informed other Makers that It's not a typical GA and it doesn't require any actions on their part.
There are some improvements ready to be released to help with Snapshot loading and better disk usage/management but we chose not to do a full release on Friday. These changes will go out on Monday. The support teams will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend but we wanted to keep you all informed on what's going on.

As we have said here already Helium currently manages the firmware of our hotspots under agreement we have had in place since our first miners came out in October 2020. This will change soon and RAK will manage the firmware and remote access.
And wow fuck that dungeon
Maybe I missed something, but there's something that has always bothered me about the story in this zone. We show the seal of ronka to the people of fanow as 'proof' that we're allies of ronka, when in reality we just took it from some nearby ruins. We essentially lie to them for the entire time we're there, and get them to divulge secrets that they've been tasked with protecting for generations, and at no point in the story does any scion acknowledge this fact in any way. Whilst the ends obviously more than justify the means, it still seems weird that no one would comment on this.
Am I missing something or is this just a writer oversight?
Little out of the loop but what is the reason I see people replacing the SD cards on their Rak miners?
During hidden floor data Hansung yu says a sworn enemy's purpose is to counter your power in hidden floor so it is someone of the same strength. So it is either of these 3
Yourself
A rival
Someone that you have been fighting for long
So the main thing is that sworn enemy must be around the same power level
Viole is equal to baam in terms of power
Same with khun
But Rak's sworn enemy is way stronger than him
We know the ancient one was very strong even his descendants caused problems for FH
I would go out n say the ancient one may be as strong as a FH
So what do u think about Rak's potential n can he be as strong as a FH
Edit: A new snapshot was released today. If you are below block height 1,176,430 then follow the instructions to power cycle as stated here.
When your Rak runs out of space on its 32 gb SD card it clears the SD card out. Then it downloads the latest snapshot and has to resync. The current snapshot is almost 10k blocks behind. The blockchain currently takes up 27 gb of space. There is not much room left on the SD card after this. Rak is recommending everyone to upgrade to a 64 gb high endurance Samsung or Sandisk card for this reason.
You can check the block height of your miner by connecting to it via bluetooth with either the Helium app or the Hotspot Utility app (my preference). On the official app you'll have to connect, run diagnostics, and click the send email button. You can read the height in the email draft. Don't actually send it. On the Hotspot utility just run diagnostics. It will round up to 100% even if its a few thousand blocks away from being synched. Only pay attention to the block height it lists and compare it to the block height the Explorer lists.
Compare your block height a half hour after your first diagnosis. If its moving upwards you just have to wait. Don't power cycle it. Just wait.
Edit: Side note. Do not use the Explorer to diagnose any problems with your hotspot. Do not trust it when it says you are online or offline. Do not trust it when it says you're relayed. Don't diagnose problems with it. Use Heliumstatus.io for these questions. The Explorer is at best a day behind if not worse.
First of all I'm not questioning why should Khun and Rak get a power-up but the way they received the power-up. Anyway, before getting to that point i would like to explain how i see baam in the TOG.
For me Tower is an ocean. And Baam ( Jahad, Urek and FHs) are shark's in this ocean. They are the only predator's in this vast ocean. Consider administrators whale or something. And the rest of the people inside the tower as human's, Let me rephrase it '' They are human's, not even small fishes''.
So my point is. The human's in the tower are surviving by swimming in the ocean and hunting small fishes here and there.
So if baam get's an insane power-up then i don't think that its a plot armor or that his character is broken. Its natural for him to do those things. His character defines that no matter how many centuries you human's train swimming and hunting in the ocean you can't come nowhere near the level i am .
Human's can spend time training and growing but they can't come nowhere near what that shark is. Baam was never a human, He is a predator, he is a shark. Its been 11 year's and if you feel still like Baam's power-ups doesn't make sense then you are also questing '' why shark swim's better than human's in the ocean''. On this topic you should not question SIU, but the way you have been reading TOG.
Shark will always hunt and swim in ocean better than every human in the ocean. So those power-up's are his natural trait's.
**** I'll come to point of Khun and Rak's power-ups after explain these things. ****
Consequences ?
1- White
He is one of most beautiful character written in TOG. White is human who is swimming nothing like the rest of human in the ocean. Unlike them, he doesn't have to waste time training and all. He just have to kill and devour. But not only that, even if someone dies around him, he can devour their soul and get a power up. He was breaking the law's of the nature and was acting like a predator in the ocean.
Consequences
The emptiness and curse of never ending hunger. He was left all alone. He is a mass murderer, but in the beginning he cried when he killed his own master. He never wanted to be a corrupted individual. The only thing he wanted was his father's recognition. It was too late for him to know that he was corrupted and cursed to feel an endless hunger.
From just getting some recognition from his father to the point of becoming a genocidal maniac. That was the consequence of having just a bit of pow
... keep reading on reddit β‘The 32gb cards that come with these miners have gotten too full. There is no headroom on them to manage data. This problem is only going to get worse as the blockchain height keeps increasing. This is causing resets, offlines, resyncing, sometimes for days, every time they push a new firmware revision. I updated to 128gb high endurance card and I think thatβs the way to go. While I donβt believe that these miners are ever going to need any more than a 64gb card I went with the 128gb card anyway. These miners perform heavy read/write operations on these cards. But the cards also have controllers in them that perform wear leveling functions. Wear leveling moves the read/writes to the least used cells rather than to the next available cell. If I have 2X the number of cells by having a 128gb card, my reasoning is that each cell is only going to get half the wear and the card will last a lot longer.
(I want to address that this thread does not intend to direct any hate towards SIU or TOG as a whole. I believe that SIU has done an impeccable job with the series and itβs one of my favorites) Itβs really interesting to me to think that theyβve become stronger than rankers. It makes sense from a story perspective keeping the trio as strong as rankers to keep up with Bamβs insane growth, but in the plot it makes sense, and it doesnβt at the same time. The only other person who has ever made it to ranker level as a regular and that was Adori Jahad as an A rank regular. It would certainly stir up a lot of commotion in the tower after learning that Kuhn and Rak (not even being irregulars themselves) had reached ranker level at only a C rank regular. It could be a cool progression in the story but Iβm also slightly sceptical. Anyways I still love the story and I think we should all wish SIU good health and to keep delivering amazing content (as long as he is physically well and able to do so) π
The 01.04.22 firmware update seems to have caused a lot of raks to go flat, offline, get behind on the blockchain, or if they haven't yet...they will.
So I am curious if you are currently affected...and also curious if anyone here WAS affected..and you are now synced and earning again.
i heard a while back that RAK was developing a web ui and implementing fast sync, but i haven't heard anything about it since then.
seems like my RAK's spend close to a quarter of their time falling off and having to resync, sure would be nice if they could hurry up with that fast sync.
So I bought a new 64gb card for the Rak v2 that I only recieved a few days ago, (after 8 months of waiting), got the card flashed, and everything was fine until I tried to insert it the miner. I took the old 32gb card out using a tweezers and then when I was putting in the new card I missed the slot (there's a small gap underneath the slot where the card goes in) and the card fell into the box itself. And now I can't get it out.
I removed the top plate but that doesn't give access to the part where the card fell in. Then I opened the screws from the bottom plate but that only loosens the plate a tiny bit.
Assuming I can't get it out at all and just have to get another card instead, is there any danger to the miner by having a card stuck somewhere inside. I mean could the card cause any damage to the running of the miner. Could it cause it to short fuse, or something like that?
Anyone else have a similiar problem?
I had my Rak V2 for about a month, and it stopped mining. It displayed Needs Attention and Syncing. It would switch off between the two.
Helium Geek showed it was Status: Online, Port Access was open, but my gap was growing. it stopped mining.
I read a few posts and wanted create a thread for what worked for me.
To check your Rak, open Helium app, settings, then pair. Connect and check diagnostics. Also you can check the HEIGHT in the send diagnostics report.
First go here to download the newest firmware and download the balence ether.
1st, i removed the 32gb sd card, i formatted existing card and then reflashed it (didn't work). The blockchain sync started to grow but got stuck at 99.3%. Also note the reflash works when you need to reconnect the wifi. Using the existing card still didn't work for me, maybe the cards are getting corrputed.
I read on another thread to upgrade to a 64gb (don't buy ultra), so i got a high enduranceSD card
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P3D6Y5B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2nd, once i got the 64gb card, i reflashed it, inserted back in the Rak, and it took about 30+ hours to sync 100%.
I'm now back and mining again.
Note: you may need to reset your IP address and open the port to that IP again.
Hope this helps others...
As the title says I have had no earnings on my RAK miner since the most recent update. I replaced the micro sd card today as I worried that may be the problem, but still nothing. I was averaging 0.2-0.35/day previous to the update.
It shows it is functioning correctly and I can ping it on heliumstatus.io, anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: 16 hours after the micro sd card replacement, I got a witness. Here are the instructions I used to flash the micro sd card.
Hello, guys and girls. I am wondering if there is a big difference between the performance of nebra vs rak 8 dBi antennas? Or which 8 dBi one would you recommend? Generally curious why some antennas are way more expensive than others and are they really worth it? Someone showed me his 5.8 dBi antenna and told he paid over 250β¬ for it - it looked huuuuuge. Someone else however wrote he is using this cheap and short 8 dBi antenna and doing well as well which surprised me: https://www.ebay.de/itm/125106914933? Does size not matter?
I tried going mass Destroyers and lost with 0 gas and 6K minerals. I have already done Endion, so I have the colossi and the other 2 variants. I think that the right army is Sentinel - Stalker - Havoc - Annihilator, maybe some Wrathwalkers? I think that something terribly wrong in this combination. My Spear of Adun abilities were these: Chrono Surge, Solar Lance, Nexus Overcharge, 10 Start supply, 10 construction time, 5 shield regeneration, Mass Recall and Reconstruction Beam. I picked these abilities for Destroyers mass destroyers to come out quicker and have actual health regen. Then my main got mined out and I quit. Also I need every piece of Solarite I can get. So what is the right combination of units? This mission is by far the hardest mission on hard yet, it drains my will to play the campaign and some advice would help a lot.
Hi My Rak v2 miner is showing syncing status from 24 hours now. I've restarted the miner 3 times now. I also have port forwarding in my miner for port 22, 443 and 44158 for 6 months now. Any ideas?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KZ6cU8KHIk
I made a tutorial on how to do so! Enjoy.
My helium miner is showing offline on helium explorer and on hotspoty site. I have run the ping test which shows itβs online. I have also ran diagnostic test and both inbound and outbound are green. But the blockchain sync is 99.77%. Itβs been 3 days does anyone know what I should do next ?
My miner has had no activity for 5 days including earnings. Heliumstatus.io says that everything is good except the only thing I've noticed is that the API reported height says 1. I've tried remotely turning it off and back on but no luck. Any advice or recommendations?
I have a RAK that flatlined 2 days ago, unplugged it for an hour, and it has still been flatlined for the past 24 hours.
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
Did you notice earnings go down? I have a pre-upgraded to outdoor antenna setup that was making $4-5 a day and now itβs only pulling in about $1 a day after replacing SD card.
