My wife grew up in a town where people kept their doors unlocked. Cookie-cutter houses, manicured lawns, silver minivans adorned with “my child is an honor student” bumper stickers. We’ve all visited a town like it. Maybe you’ve lived in a similar town. Maybe you live in one right now. Out of respect for the victims, I won’t say the name of my wife’s hometown. (_______town should suffice.) But just know, it was a slice of all-American middle-class comfort pie, a place where bad things simply did not happen.

I never intended to live in such a town but ended up in one anyway. At the time, I was in my late twenties. I had wanted to move to Los Angeles to take one last shot at my childhood dream, a career in screenwriting, but my wife, Melanie, whom I had married young, wanted to stay put on the east coast to be near her parents. After much deliberation, we agreed that we would move to Los Angeles on the condition that, first, we stay with her parents for nine months, so she could spend quality time with them before heading out west.

“And think of all the money we’ll save not paying rent,” she had said. “You won’t even have to work full time. You can just focus on writing.”

At the end of our lease, we put our furniture in storage, said goodbye to the trendy Brooklyn neighborhood we had called home for the past seven years, and headed to the suburbs. The adjustment, at first, was surprisingly smooth. With access to a big backyard, a dog to play with, and a car for running errands, I found myself wondering why I had ever put myself through un-air-conditioned subways and high-rent shoebox apartments. But after a few weeks, the rosy newness wore off and was replaced by a vacant malaise. The problem was, there was nothing to do in _______town. No-thing. I longed for Greenwich village arthouse movie theaters, Chelsea galleries, hole-in-the-wall restaurants. I even missed sweating on the subway. At least subway sweat was interesting.

My boredom was at its worst in the afternoon. With the move, I had gotten a part-time as a video editor at the local news station. I worked the night shift, which paid well, but meant that I hardly spent any waking hours with Melanie—or anyone else, for that matter. I thought that the solitude would be a fruitful source of writing inspiration, a way to get a head start on a feature script or a T.V. pilot before we went to LA. But it was not to be. Driving by Nipton, Primm, Jean, Sloan, the Strip, Nellie, etc. just makes me want to spend another hundred hours or so back in the Mojave Wasteland. As a bonus, we drove through Nevada in our way to Zion! Maybe I’ll start it up again when I get home…

Anyone else find themselves loving to play a Fallout game when at the real versions of places?

My Courier desires to take over New Vegas at his own accord and rule the Mojave and make it a better place for everyone. Neither Mr. House, The Legion, and The NCR stands in his way. As his army of followers, Securitrons, and Factions marches forward.

Required stats:

• Very good Karma.
• 10 Intelligence, 10 Agility, 10 Luck.
• 100 Barter, 100 Energy Weapons, 100 Explosives, 100 Guns, 100 Lockpick, 100 Medicine, 100 Repair, 100 Science, 100 Sneak, 100 Speech.
• Animal Friend, Explorer, Ferocious Loyalty, Good Natured, Intense Training (10), Rad Resistance, Small Frame.

Note that not all of these stats will be obtainable at the beginning of the game. So, it would be best not to do every step in order until you have leveled up enough to obtain all of the required statistics. Just be sure to wait and save both killing Caesar and starting the second battle of Hoover Dam for last.

Mods (Not mandatory, but recommended):

• Unlimited Followers Everywhere (UFE).
• Continue After Game's Ending (CAGE).
• Funtional Post Game Ending (FPGE).

• Drive the Powder Gangers out of Goodsprings.
• Kill Eddie (the leader of the Powder Gangers), and clear out the Powder Gangers occupying the NCR Correctional Facility.
• Find a new sheriff for Primm.
• Inform Lt. Hayes about Tyrone selling Chems to the Great Khans.
• At Nipton, put the crucified people out of their misery, give Boxcars Med-X, and kill Vulpes Inculta.
• Get rid of Jeanie May so she can't sell any more people into slavery.
• Get rid of the Nightkin attacking the McBride Farm.
• Convince the Nightkin to leave the REPCONN Testing Site basement.
• Help the Bright Brotherhood repair their ships at REPCONN.
• Fix the HELIOS One solar power plant and reroute the power to Fremont and Westside.
• Inform Dr. Richards of Private Stone's theft.
• Convince the Great Khans to free the hostages at Boulder City.
• Sign truce between Kings and NCR.
• Go to Jacobstown to fix Rex and save his life.
• Help the Mutants at Jacobstown in developing a cure for their condition.
• Assist Crandon in helping out North Vegas Square.
• Stop Andy's plan to rob Alice's family.
• Form a peaceful resolution for the Hostetler family.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Before you start asking the same questions people with similar issues have already been asked on the official forums, yes, I have neutral karma. Do your worst!

As a first time Vegas visitor I was stunned by the city. I know everyone is all the time but really, it’s incredible to see such a place in the middle of a desert.

I visited the city because during the pandemic I found myself looking for ways to spend time in an exciting manner while at home and got into online casinos. Obviously after playing for a number of months I had to visit the capital of gambling and I’m really glad I did. I heard there’s more to Vegas than just casinos but it’s one thing to read about it and a whole ‘nother thing to experience it first-hand.

The self-sustained city in the middle of a desert is fascinating. I visited Lake Mead and Hoover Dam, amazing pieces of human ingenuity and engineering.

I obviously visited The Strip but to my surprise was less impressed with it than with water supply system of the city and surround areas.

Obviously biggest casinos are fully okay to gamble in (depending of course on your views on gambling) and I didn’t visit anything outside of The Strip so wanted to ask if there are casinos in Vegas itself and whether they are worth visiting. Maybe there are some lesser-known but still decent places to visit for their unique presentation or atmosphere.

I heard of that Bonnie and Clyde car in Primm’s Whickey Pete’s casino so that’s worth visiting some day but what are other places worth visiting that not too many people know about?

I got really used to using services like https://qualitycasinos.info/ to see what are decent casinos online but never saw a really extensive list for real-life casinos. Anyone got something like that?

I’ll be visiting next year again, I’m almost certain and would like to properly prepare this time around. This year it was rather spontaneous and I felt like I missed a lot of stuff and obviously you can’t see everything in Nevada and Vegas in 10 days…or maybe I just wasn’t quick enough.

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
