I'm starting to think this might be something in particular with AMD Drivers, after I updated to the Latest Optional 21.11.3, the modern sleep persists through reboots (saw some atieclxx changing power schemas in event viewer during upgrade), whereas it was failing to Modern Sleep after upgrading to 21.11.2 from 21.11.1. Needs more testing of Latest Recommended and Latest Optional when I get time to do so.

I was facing two issues since getting my G14 GA401QM model a few months ago while putting it to Sleep, breaking my head about it until yesterday:

1. Getting a BSOD in sleep after like 3 minutes, having to fully boot my laptop again.
2. My system wasn't able to enter Modern Standby, draining around 3-4% battery in the powercfg SleepStudy reports.

I have remedied these issues and I am happy to share with you my findings and fixes:

1. The BSODs are caused by the Fingerprint Reader (DUH!) unable to reach the correct power state to sleep, crashing the NT Kernel (found via WinDBG). Even with the latest driver which is now more than year old and no new version in sight :(
2. You need to go to the Device Manager (Start -> devmgmt.msc), expand your PC, Biometric Devices -> Goodix Fingerprint Reader -> go to the Power Management tab, uncheck both boxes and confirm.
3. According to my research the 99% wake time of a device that prevented it to go to Modern Standby was the USB xHCI Controller. I thought this might have to do with "legacy mode" of the USB controller being turned on in UEFI, so I changed it and magic happened.
4. Before ASUS logo shows on boot, mash ESC and get into UEFI, get into Advanced Mode (F7), select Advanced Tab, and there:
5. Asus ErP -> Enable
6. USB Configuration -> Legacy USB Support and set it to Auto.
7. Save Changes & Reboot.
8. Let the system fully boot and close the lid.
9. To verify if the procedure has been successful, open command prompt as Admin and run powercfg.exe /SleepStudy
10. If successful you will be draining ~400mW per Hour per hour of Modern Standby which will result in ~0.6% drain per hour.

My Setup:

Windows 11 (22000.318)
Latest AMD GPU drivers (21.11.3) [it worked also with 21.11.1, latest Recommended unknown]

Since the rumours of the two new shows, I'm in the mood for some Stargate. This got me into reading my old 'History' for the historical context for my fanfic. I then realised I quite enjoyed the history/timeline, fanfic or no fanfic, so thought I'd post for others to enjoy. If you don't like it, let me know why.

Alteran History - Nous anu Anteānus

The Alterans first encountered the Ascendant Empire millennia ago in a distant galaxy in their home cluster. It was this meeting that made them realise the implications of Ascendancy, and created the first fractures between Alterans and what would become the Ori. The Alterans realised the dangers of Ascendancy and Ascended beings, and the risk they posed to mortals of the Low Planes. The Ori faction realised the potential for Ascendancy and the power it could impart. Rather than risk civil war, the civilisation fractured and the Alterans left to explore the Universe. The Ori pursued Ascendancy and were able to rebuff the advances of the Empire, though this required more power. Their own self-preservation shaped their hunger.

Longe Nocte - [~50 Million Years ago] (mya)

The Alterans fled their home galaxy Aldera to avoid civil war (FTL only). They explored the Universe for innumerable Millennia, thousands of Great fleets, tens of millions travelling in thousands of ships. They explored, foraged and studied the biospheres, their flora and fauna. They developed Gates and seeded them at convenience to facilitate fleet to fleet transport, or if staying in a location for extended periods. The various fleets would stop and build settlements on nearby worlds. These settlements could grow extensive over the hundreds or thousands of years the Alterans spent studying whatever natural phenomena or species had caught their eye. The Alterans observed the formation of galaxies, stars and planets, the emergence of life and later intelligent life from various biospheres. They spent millions of years observing and recording the evolution of intelligent species. This period of their history became known as Longa Nocte; Long Night (pun – long night of study/hardwork, also their extended journey through space and also the massive Void that signalled the journey’s end).

Is there a way to provide comparable lights without murdering my poor GTX 1070 fps?

Lights look great, 10% power, gray 50% tint. But FPS drop from solid 60 to 20. Like day and night, pun intended.

Glass foundations work much better at not killing ambiance light during the day, and lights don't need to be on 24/7.

First of all, I just want to adress the one huge, problematic, backwards, 'excplicit'-up on DICE's/EA's part: Nivelle Nights - Premium only.

Note(*): I have no idea exactly what they're going to do with this one in the future, but it doesn't look too good at the moment so I'm going to tackle this as it is right now.

Making single maps, like Nivelle Nights, Premium only is such a huge step in the wrong direction that I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it! The map will become abandoned and die so quickly unless its gameplay is exceptionally great or something. I, as a Premium owner, plead you to make it free after that two weeks of premium only-thing you got going. I am very grateful that you care to make a map like this, and it has potential. It's just a shame to see that it's going to be treated like this, because it will eventually fade into the night (pun intend) and be forgotten or ignored.

I also want to ask DICE to please set up some official servers with an all map rotation that is mixing all vanilla, *premium and DLC maps. I don't know why they haven't done this yet, it's seems only logical to have some servers like this set up by now. We want to mix it up and experience everything the game and its DLCs has to offer, not isolate ourselves to a certain set of maps.

Honestly, I'm bored but I wanna discuss with you guys about this topic. You can skip reading this post if you want and go straight to the comments to talk about this.

Aight I'm gonna ramble.

Yes, I know Seinen and shonen is just a demographic term and the only thing that makes a series shonen or seinen is the magazine they're published in. But I tend to notice a few things that set seinens apart from shonens.

Seinen doesn't always mean "darker and edgier", just series aimed at adult males. Typically 18 - 40 year olds.

For example. Innocent cute girls doing cute things series (CGDCT), slice of life school series/slice of life school girl series, harems and isekai (if it isn't light novel form) tend to be aimed at the seinen demographic. These series tend to serve as a form of escapism for a Japanese adult male audience. Though shonen series of these type do exist.

And shonen doesn't always mean it's lighthearted. There are shonen aimed at older audiences. Fire Punch is a dark shonen that requires you to be 18 or above to read it on the Jump+ site. The Devilman manga was dark and had a depressing ending but it's shonen.

And just because a manga series is shonen or seinen doesn't determine how good a series or the quality of a series. But it depends on what you overall prefer. Some may like seinen more than shonen.

But for the "serious" seinen manga series, let's get into detail. Let's just assume when I'm talking about seinen, I'm talking about the serious ones from this point forward.

Anyways, just a few things I've noticed. Not all of them.

Seinen protagonists tends to be someone who has a lot of inner conflict. This could apply to any series but in seinen, the protagonist tends to feel guilt and ponder whether they have made the right or wrong decision (Tenma from Monster). They also feel very human too.

Another feature of these serious seinen manga series is that the protagonist tends to go through character development too (Famous examples being Guts from Berserk, Thorfinn from Vinland Saga, Musashi from Vagabond). It feels character driven too ( Good night pun pun)

And of course sometimes the protagonists tend to be morally ambiguous compared to shonen. And morally ambigious doesn't mean clear cut evil or clear cut good, though the protagonist can do terrible acts. This just means there's a lot of protagonists who aren't the conventional knight in shining armor type. Which is why there's a lot of anti-heroes in seinen. Gray and gray mora
