(Coastal Connecticut) Saw this abnormally large blackish bird, bigger than the herring gulls. It was flying around the beach. Any ideas?

What kind of Gull? Most common gulls here are Ring Billed and Herring, but the yellow bill, dark eye, and legs are making it tough for me confirm which one, or if this is something else. What kind of gull? Looked a bit larger than surrounding Ring Billed, didn’t look like a Herring to me. That being said, it’s always one of those two. Sumner County TN. reddit.com/gallery/l1gnza
Immature Herring or immature California? Storm system and cold weather have pushed in some different gulls. Size is difficult, no point of reference nearby- I’d say at least slightly bigger than a RBG but could have been larger. Sumner County TN. reddit.com/gallery/ljhbin
On the lookout for strange gulls because of the severe weather. Both these guys stood out because they were larger than nearby Ring Billed Gulls. I assume Herring Gulls but do either of these stand out as possibly something else? Top and bottom are separate birds. Sumner County TN.

Which gull is this? It was backlit so I didn’t get a good look at it. I don’t see much for markings on the bill and there is strong contrast at the neck. Every gull I’m not sure about is a Ring billed or herring, so I assume one of those. Sumner County TN.
