A list of puns related to "Controversies About Opus Dei"
Writing to ask about this secret society and other similar styled ministries to opus dei and what excatholics here think about it, as well as how dangerous it could be to host societies.
Grunge: " ... Let's take a look at exactly what Opus Dei says they are, and what their critics and former members claim they are. Opus Dei says that they're essentially an organization that provides guidelines on how Christian laypeople can live "a life fully consistent with their faith, in the middle of ordinary circumstances of their lives." That involves things like "divine filiation," embracing Christian values like "charity, patience, humility, diligence, integrity, [and] cheerfulness," prayer, the offering of sacrifices, and "sanctifying work," which means work that's done "ethically."
That sounds not-so-bad, but like anything involving people, it gets very complicated very quickly. Opus Dei has claimed to be different things over the years: NPR says it's currently defined as a "personal prelature," but it's also been called things like a "secular institute" and a "priestly society of common life without vows." Both laypeople and clergy are members, new members are usually recruited by existing members, and when joining Opus Dei, a contract is signed promising (in part): "with firm resolve I dedicate myself to pursue sanctity and to practice apostolate with all my energy."
Critics, however, accuse Opus Dei of being everything up to and including a right-wing cult. Take, for example, a joke published in the magazine Tablet: 'How many members of Opus Dei does it take to screw in a lightbulb? The answer is, 100... one to screw in the lightbulb, and 99 to chant, 'We are not a movement, we are not a movement.''"

the opus dei is a sect inside the catholic church, made by some guy named josémaria, he was recently organized saint and if you go to any opus day center or household that is part of the opus day you will see pictures of him hanged everywhere. having grown up in the opus dei and living with people who are still very much in it, i’ve been really curious about them, since from my time there it felt very cult like and well given that this group is responsible for giving me a lot of my mental problems and indoctrinating me, i think it’s only fair i try to figure out what the heck they are. but as soon as i started trying to do research i found close to nothing on it, and what i have found are articles talking about how secretive it is, and the lack of things known about what actually goes on behind closed doors. i guess i wanna ask if anyone else has heard or had any experiences with the group?? and if anyone has any info about them?
I’m curious what people on this subreddit think of both organizations.
I’ve been a Knight for two years and I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about it.
I’m not in Opus Dei and I don’t know anyone in Opus Dei.
Can anyone here explain to me what the fuck that was about? Carmines funeral? New Jersey house wife fundamentalist shit? I was so confused by that little bit, but I'm also so curious. Any catholics here who know what that's all about? I'd love to know.
So I'm doing Iberian Federation run and wanted to elect Opus Dei, the problem is I can't make market liberals (PRD/Opus Dei) have more influence than social liberals (UR) despite doing the Opus Dei path in economic part of the focus tree both factions will always have the same amount of support and after the last elections event UR will magically get 1 support more and win. Is there any way to change the situation so PRD will win? Or atleast any console command to change their popularity.
So awhile ago, I published a video where I did a bit of a deep dive into something known as the Alta Vendita, an Italian sect of the Free Masons known as the Italian Carbonari (sp?), and my theory that it was all cooked up by the Catholic Church as a scapegoat to blame all its issues on. If you want to see it, I’ll link it here .
Since then, I’ve been fascinated by Catholic Church shenanigans and the darker side of catholicism that doesn’t get a lot of attention. I’m toying around with the idea of doing a deep dive in Opus Dei for my channel and I was wondering if anyone on here had any stories, links, or sources they would be willing to share. I’ve had a hard time finding information that isn’t ridiculously hard to understand, and it doesn’t seem to be something anyone in the youtube community is willing to touch with a ten foot pole (with a few exceptions). That seems interesting to me.
Anyway, I know I’ve read a few things on here from ppl who had experiences with Opus Dei, and although I could try to scroll to find them, I thought I’d just ask that if anyone has anything to share, they just drop it in the comments below :) I appreciate any info. And feel free to let me know if you think even talking about Opus Dei is a waste of time lol.

Better article here in Portuguese
I’m referring to the episode where they had Carmine Sr in an open casket. Carmine Jr was upset by the rosary or something of that nature and mentioned it was Opus Dei and “New Jersey housewife fundamentalist shit.” What is he talking about? I’m not catholic so I’m clueless.
Isn’t that just a Catholic form of Freemasons?
