I'm constantly amazed by people defending the Expertise system with claims that its detractors somewhat haven't read the patch notes properly, or don't understand the system, or haven't thought through the implications. The most common arguments appear to be:

1. "You can increase watermark through crafting by using the gypsum orbs obtained through crafting".

This is technically true, but incredibly disingenuous. If you attempted to reach 600 GS in 11 slots solely through gypsum casts created using crafting gypsum orbs, you would need more than a year to get there.

This is because, contrary to claims made by a number of people, gypsum casts are not +10 watermark per use. They're +1 to +5 (randomly rolled) at 500 GS, down to +1 to +4, +3, +2 once you hit higher GS bands, all the way down to a maximum of +1 once you hit the high 580s.

Why are they randomly rolled rather than a flat +5? Why does the +watermark bump get lower than higher your GS? Solely for the purposes of supplementing that addiction loop and increasing the grind. Is this a player-friendly system?

2. "This is much better than the current system, i.e. running elite trains."

This is a strawman. Nobody is arguing that elite trains should be the optimal route to progression. But what people want is a new system which (1) doesn't make them objectively weaker unless they participate in yet another months-long farm after they've already grinded crafting for the past several weeks, and (2) rewards them for doing content they enjoy doing, not content that the designers think they should enjoy doing.

In addition, many very questionable decisions about the expertise/gypsum system appear to be completely overlooked. In particular:

- Why does gypsum have to be tied to a daily 23 hour timer, rather than, say, a weekly reset? Why punish players for not logging in every day?

- Why is sapphire gypsum (dungeon boss drops) locked behind both a dungeon orb cooldown and a gypsum drop cooldown? Is it really necessary to retain the concept of dungeon orbs if you're also introducing a separate gypsum cooldown?

- Why does the topaz gypsum attunement potion (which is on a weekly lockout) only last for 60 minutes? Why does the potion exist in the first place, instead of having 55+ mobs just drop topaz at a steady rate? Why is the drop rate low enough that it's very possible not to obtain 10 topaz gypsum by the time the potion runs out?

I was quite surprised to see that this place seemed very clean and well kept. The large room was devoid of people besides a handful of loners that were spread out amongst the corners of the room. Most of them had drinks in hand and some even had a meal to go with it.

“This is pretty much how every guild building is. Another tip for you, if you have serious business with the guild, always come at lunch. 2018 was a tough year for me. I was coping with an injury that had led to chronic pain, and my husband was dealing with an abusive supervisor, which added up to a pretty severe depressive episode. I decided to take a leave of absence from my chemistry Ph.D. program at the beginning of 2019 to recuperate mentally and physically, which left me with an unprecedented level of free time.

At the end of 2018, I helped a friend find an engagement ring, and I had to do some reading on colored gems to help him find the best option. I never really stopped looking at them, even after we’d found the ring. So, in early 2019, I went looking for more information and found r/gemstones. Lapidaries occasionally posted, but there was a particular one that caught my eye, due to both the beautiful cuts and the willingness to chat with people. After a couple weeks of enthusiastic lurking, I purchased a ring from him and we started chatting over PM regularly. I sent a rough sapphire I found on ebay to have it custom cut (the wait time? 1 week.) and he answered my absolutely relentless questions about gem cutting and rough stones. The first lesson I learned: don’t buy rough on the internet if you don’t know what you’re doing. The “VVS” sapphire I bought was in fact heavily included.

At one point, Jim mentioned to me that he was running into some trouble on r/gemstones because of all the positive attention he was getting--a couple of users complained to the mods that he was posting only to advertise. I highly recommend viewing this guide on PC because it is vast. The guide looks much messier when viewed through the app on the phone, but looks fine on web even on mobile.

We have a lot of ground to cover on the Seasonal mechanic, so just like last time, I won't waste much space with build recommendations. Here's the short of it, and tl;dr just play Monk:

Theory: Ego, The Grandmaster, and Buri (Odin's grandfather) were Celestials in arrested development while The Collector was a dying one. Galactus will be a Celestial too.

EVIDENCE

Two flavors of Celestials exist in the MCU. In GotG2, we saw Ego was a massive brain wrapped within a humongous head-shaped planet, but he had a humanoid avatar and the two were one being. Ego informed us that he was indeed a Celestial. However, GotG1 had introduced us to Eson the Searcher showing us what a right proper Celestial looked like and Eternals confirmed the mountain-sized armored version was the typical Celestial. So both classical Jack Kirby Celestials and planet Celestials with a just human embodiment exist in the MCU.

The planet Celestials are not quite done baking. Per Eternals, the Celestials reproduce by seeding planets with a Celestial and then indirectly rear the intelligent life on the world like cattle in order to feed it. Once that intelligent life reaches a certain energy threshold, a new Celestial emerges form the planet, destroying it in the process.

Ego - He lacked the gargantuan body of a normal Celestial. He also had no recollection of how he came to be, he had just simply always been there as a giant brain. That brain learned to manipulate matter and construct a planet around itself for protection. However, the planet had no intelligent life on it, so it never reached the energy threshold necessary to birth him into his full potential. As such, while he had godlike powers, he was stunted and limited to interacting with others in his self-created humanoid form.

The Grandmaster - In Thor's Willa Wonka-esque introduction to The Grandmaster during Ragnarok, we were told that The Grandmaster was the creator of Sakaar. Not simply the founder, not the owner, not the ruler, but the actual creator of the planet. Just as Ego's brain slowly cobbled together a planet for himself over millenia, apparently The Grandmaster did the same thing. Just as Ego was also The Living Planet, The Grandmaster was also Sakaar. Sakaar did have intelligent life though, the insectoid Sakaarians. However, The Grandmaster was a libertine and his emergence would have halted the never-ending party that was his life. He prevented it by farming out the intelligent life as a mercenary army to Ronan (during his quest for the orb) and replacing them with a small number dregs pulled from other worlds he used to entertain himself. I don't actually own stock in this company, but the concept is something I am interested in. I can see applications in everything from agriculture to carbon sequestration to industrial chemical manufacturing if a company legitimately nails the Ginko Bioworks model.

1. You Only Get 1 Skill Respec Per Difficulty for completing the Den of Evil quest. After that the only way to respec is to farm the Act bosses in Hell difficulty to create respec tokens.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

I'd gotten a little bored of a '100 runs' session with my hammerdin and decided to take a break, do something different... apparently that was levelling another hammerdin >< (I wanted a smiter and didn't want to respec my hammerdin cause he wups too much ass :p)

I powered through normal and nightmare on p3 but the problem with playing a well-geared hammerdin is battling through hell would be like starting a brawl in a kindergarten - fun at first but it doesn't leave you satisfied... instead I decided to try to play through the entirety of hell on p8, figured if anyone could do it it'd be a hammerdin and I was curious how the loot drops would compare to a farming session

I started level 76.2, ended level 88.5... played on p8 for everything but Baal wave 2 cause fuck that shit >< (plus that wave is my mercs job, so p3 it was)... it was actually quite fun, enigma made traversal so much nicer and it was pretty tense in places, particularly towards the end of act 5 when hell lords started showing up... most common cause of death was mana burn cause suddenly you ain't going nowhere

In terms of gear - enigma, war travs, chance guards, arach mesh, shako w/ p. topaz, wizardspike w/ Ist, Sacred Targe (+28 all res.) spirit, perfect Maras, nagelring, random 34MF ring (408MF total)... my merc had eth thresher insight, eth dusk shroud treachery and tal's horadric crest for life steal... only charms I had were gheeds, a +15 all res. GC and a variety of 5-6 MF small charms

I didn't really bother noting where I found things as we all know the best places to farm, but here's what turned up:

• Act1: Razortail, Key of Terror
• Act2: Lum
• Act3: feck all
• Act4: feck all until Diablo dropped a string of ears... it was worse than the two I already had ><
• Act5: +1 Bow/Crossbow skills, +40 life GC (nice if bowazon makes a comeback), Tal's horadric crest

not the best haul really... for a few days play... but hey at least I've got a smiter guy now when I find the gear... have to admit I'm a little disappointed at how unviable just 'playing the game' is for finding loot... I know RNG is RNG but I thought it might be like cows, kill a fuck ton of stuff and perhaps a few HRs will turn up at least, ah well... only got 20 runs left of my original hammerdin session and that at least has been lucky :p

(in terms of what I recorded, any runes >= Lum or any noteworthy set or unique items... so no Cathans or a certain military pick etc)

Hello and welcome to my first ever guide. I have been a member of the Grim Dawn community for a few years now and have a modest 262 hours played at the time of writing this post. I've been playing on and off and made quite a few characters, but wanted to tackle Hardcore for once.

Being a Softcore player, this character would be very fresh and of course have no blueprints unlocked, so I wanted to make a character that was very easy to gear, is quite tanky, and can do most if not all content in the game. I have always wanted to make a Krieg Death Knight, so I settled on that.

While making this guide and trying to make it as complete as possible, I got a little overwhelmed. So no in-depth guide on my decisions... yet. I may add to this when I feel like it, but for now I need a little guide-writing break. I do hope it's still good enough!

Legend

Abbreviations that I will be using in this guide and what they mean, as well as a short explanation of what these do:

• OA: Offensive Ability. This determines your chance to hit and chance to crit. It is checked against the enemy DA; Defensive Ability. You need at least 2600 at endgame. Builds that rely on critical hits need more of this. At 3100 OA your chance to hit most bosses is 100% and chance to crit is 22%.
• DA: Defensive Ability. This determines your chance to be hit and chance to be crit. The enemy OA; Offensive Ability is checked against your DA. You never want to be crit, 2600 is the minimum at endgame, but more is better. At 3100 DA most bosses will hit you a little less than 80% of the time and cannot crit.
• RR: Resistance Reduction. Enemies have resistances just like you. To (drastically) improve your damage, skills that reduces the enemy resistance are very valuable. There are 3 types:
  • -x% resistance, these stack with the same type and other types, most valuable version.
  • x% reduced resistance, these stack only with other two types, get one source.
  • x reduced resistance, these stack only with other two types, get one source.
• Armor and armor absorption. Armor is an important part of your defenses. Every piece has a set % chance to get hit. Chest piece has a 26% chance to get hit, but boots have a 12% chance to get hit. The belt cannot get hit, but instead adds its armor value to all your other equipment. Having a single piece at low armor means you will get hit by larger spikes every so often! Magic Find (MF) dramatically increases the Magic, Rare, Unique & Set items that drop as you slay demons!

Important Notes:

1. Your first 100 MF is worth as much as the next 200. (Every little bit helps a ton at first!)
2. MF starts to have significant diminishing returns after the first ~300 for everything but Magic items. (MF curve: https://diablo2.diablowiki.net/File:Magic-find-diminishing-returns.jpg )
3. You can keep extra MF gear in your other weapon slots and swap to them right before you kill a Boss. Your MF is only calculated once the monster dies so this works and is common.
4. When deciding to stack more MF gear, first consider if it will make your character too weak and you'd be better off with stronger gear. If you can kill much faster or spend way less time dying, its not always the best thing to just add more MF.
5. If your Mercenary gets the killing blow, their MF is combined with yours.
6. MF does NOT help Rune drops.
