Making open house invitations look too fancy, wearing a hat indoors during chapel cleaning...? What was the stupidest thing you were rebuked publicly by a priesthood holder wielding his authority in front of others for?

So, this is probably not the stupidest but just one that came to my mind...

On my mission we were teaching English to a computer technology/copy center company. It dropped during one of our sessions that our church was holding an open house for a new chapel that had been built and that we needed to make invitations for it. We asked them if they'd be able to print them and described what we wanted and they agreed. We also agreed on a price for the black & white invitations printed on regular white printer paper - 4 invitations per page. As a thank you, when we returned the following week, the company and its employees had drafted our request and surprised us with color invitations on nicer paper at no additional cost!!! We were ecstatically grateful.

However at zone conference a few weeks later the mission president got up in front of everybody and said that Elder AlaskanThinker "had need to repent" because he'd wasted the Lord's money on extravagant invitations to an open house...

Sometimes you just can't win...

English Heritage cares for England’s largest and most significant collection of wall paintings – some even older than those in the Sistine Chapel. I’m Conservator Rachel Turnbull. As me anything!

From ancient Roman painted walls to Victorian gothic decoration, English Heritage cares for 77 wall paintings, the country’s largest and most significant collection – some even older than those in the Sistine Chapel.

England’s wall paintings are at risk from a number of factors and each faces a unique combination of threats including the damp English weather, the ancient buildings they are in and poor past restoration.

Find out about how you can support the conservation of these irreplaceable treasures: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/support-us/our-appeals/wallpaintings/

These irreplaceable artworks require highly-skilled conservation. Learn more about the care and conservation of England’s wall paintings and ask English Heritage’s Senior Collections Conservator, Rachel Turnbull, a question.
