A list of puns related to "Animal Fiber"
I have a pair of leather mittens with wool lining on the inside that I use for snowboarding. On top of being far more warm, dry, and comfortable than any pair of gloves Iβve ever worn, I believe they are also better for the environment than many synthetic gloves would be.
For one, this pair of leather gloves will outlast 2-3 pairs of synthetic gloves. Then once they do finally wear out theyβll actually decompose unlike the synthetic ones which will sit in a landfill for several hundred years.
Also clothes made from natural fibers wonβt contribute to the microtrash problem. Synthetic fibers from clothes have been found in some of the most remote places in the world and are impacting our worlds ecosystems. These fibers will infiltrate the soil and be eaten by animals. Until we can create a synthetic fabric that is long lasting, durable, non toxic, and biodegradable than natural fibers will be better in most situations
Yesterday, President Biden lamented the high price of ground beef, pledging $1 billion for smaller producers and to use the justice dept to de-consolidate the meat industry.
Given that the US food system is over-supplying animal protein, and under-supplying dietary fiber, we think his focus should be on helping black bean, lentil, vegetable and fruit farmers expand while using sustainable faming practices.
In our work at Agriculture Fairness Alliance, we've come to the conclusion that US federal farm policy funnels farmers into producing a handful of products, most of which end up on our plates devoid of nutrients like dietary fiber, and full of saturated fats, salt, and sugar. As a result, they are not producing fiber-rich foods that are critical for preventing leading causes of death like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
Last month, AFA presented a webinar to the USDA & Congress making the case to prioritize fiber-rich foods in farm policy. Find the video here https://afa.farm/fiber.
Experts like Miyoko Schinner to Tracye McQuirter and Dr. B made this case. Even a Wisconsin dairy farmer joined us. His comments: https://youtu.be/GrdSjFpQyy8
At around the same time that we were preparing our case for prioritizing fiber-rich foods in farm policy, 5 medical experts published this paper - making a very similar case to ours, and recommending very similar remedies. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666667721001409

Is any one growing hemp for seed, animal feed or fiber? We are looking for stalks that are long (6' +) and thin (1/4" or so in diameter) to test our decorticator (US patent 10,837,125). We are in Denver, so if you are in Colorado, western NE or KS, we would be happy to drive to your location to gather waste stalks. Note: experience teaches us that "christmas tree" type stalks don't work for us.
Hello! I have started making more sweaters/wearables recently and found that form-fitting pieces made of animal fiber irritate my skin. I've always known wool is irritating to my skin and eczema but was hopeful as it has gotten better over the years.
For wintery sweaters I have already made, I am able to wear a shirt underneath to reduce the irritation. However, I have some patterns I want to make that don't make sense to wear a shirt underneath. In general, I want my future finished objects to be something I can easily wear.
All this being said, what is your favourite yarn for wearables that is not made with animal fiber? Something that is soft to the touch when knitted or crocheted. :)
Thank you!
Iβm asking because Iβm a crocheter who has always used knots. Magic knot and Russian join make me paranoid of it coming undone with many washes and heavy use. Wondering if there are any other recommended methods. Thanks.
It doesn't prevent it, and despite my love of alpaca fiber, my skin kind of hates it, but at least in my experience you don't wake up feeling soaked and freezing. A mild itch sure beats that.
I'm a fiber artist myself so I know not everyone has alpaca sweaters lying around, but I've been wearing a button up sweater as a shirt at night and it's greatly improved my comfort, even while still wearing cotton pants and sleeping on cotton sheets.
It will start to smell sweaty though, but washing animal fibers is much easier than most people think. Just fill a sink with warm (not hot) water, put in some mild soap (I've used hand soap and it successfully removed the smell of farm) and soak the garment in question for maybe 20 minutes. Let it air dry; preferably by laying it out on a towel. Don't squeeze or wring it. If the garment is knit, don't hang it up to dry. Just let it be. It should dry much faster than cotton and should no longer smell. Even after several sweaty nights without washing, my sweater doesn't smell quite as strongly as my cotton shirts did. Hope someone out there has an old wool sweater lying around that can maybe help them out.
Hi everyone, So I know thereβs a lot on the internet about the warmest animal fibres (alpaca, yak, etc).... But is there a list or a definition of the ones that arenβt as warm?
Or by definition of not being the warmest, is wool therefore technically the least warm? And does it vary between breeds of the species?
my use case is more like I live in a place where I would like to knit a sweater in winter but it only really gets to 8-9 degrees Celsius at the extreme end of nighttime cold (and the actual daytime temperature is more like 15 degrees Celsius). So, Iβm looking for fibers that will meet this temp range without being a furnace.
Thank you!

Low protein diets are commonly prescribed for patients with idiopathic calcium nephrolithiasis, who account for > 80% of new diagnoses of kidney stones. This dietary advice is supported by metabolic studies and epidemiologic observational studies but has not been evaluated in a controlled trial. Using 1983-1985 data from three Northern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers, the authors randomly assigned 99 persons who had calcium oxalate stones for the first time to a low animal protein, high fiber diet that contained approximately 56-64 g daily of protein, 75 mg daily of purine (primarily from animal protein and legumes), one-fourth cup of wheat bran supplement, and fruits and vegetables. Intervention subjects were also instructed to drink six to eight glasses of liquid daily and to maintain adequate calcium intake from dairy products or calcium supplements. Control subjects were instructed only on fluid intake and adequate calcium intake. Both groups were followed regularly for up to 4.5 years with food frequency questionnaires, serum and urine chemistry analysis, and abdominal radiography; and they were urged to comply with dietary instructions. In the intervention group of 50 subjects, stones recurred in 12 (7.1 per 100 person-years) compared with two (1.2 per 100 person-years) in the control group; both groups received a mean of 3.4 person-years of follow-up (p = 0.006). After adjustment for possible confounding ef

So I'd love to hear if any of you have genius plant based or plastic based fingering weight yarns to play with

HEALTH experts have slammed the new book from celebrity chef Pete Evans for its heavy reliance on meat and animal fats.
Evansβ new book Easy Keto Dinners features recipes with food cooked in beef, pig, cow and duck fats and suggests choosing the βfattiest cuts of meatβ.
Carbs and dairy are dismissed as βinflammatoryβ, fruit is reduced and many of the dishes involve meat and processed meat.
One recipe for a βmeatzzaβ is a pizza with pork and beef mince as its base instead of dough which is then topped with more meat.
VicHealth CEO Sandro Demaio said [she] was concerned about the βcarnivore ketogenicβ option which eliminated fruit and vegetables in the recipes. She also does not advocate extreme fasting.
βThis is not a sustainable and accessible approach for most of us and can lead to people not getting enough nutrients in their diets,β she said.
βWeβre also concerned about the high fat content of some of these recipes with one serving of the meatzza containing 112 per cent of your daily recommended saturated fat intake compared with 30 per cent recommended vegetable intake.
βWhen it comes to health, itβs recommended people get dietary advice from a reputable source like a health expert β rather than a celebrity chef.β
Cancer Council of Victoria nutritionist Alison McAleese said βmost animal fats are saturated and associated with heart disease and Australian nutritional guidelines suggest minimising saturated fatsβ. βPeople putting out these cook books are not professionals β they are not putting out nutritional advice,β she said.
The Dietitians Association of Australia also warned about eating too much red meat: βWhen it comes to healthy eating, dietary variety is key,β a spokeswoman said.
Lucinda Hancock, CEO of Nutrition Australia, Victoria, who in 2015 posted #kelloggsnutrition to her twitter account, said the diet was βunbalanced and restrictiveβ.
βThe keto diet includes very little carbohydrates, which can cut out many nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes and some dairy foods, making it low in dietary fibre and high in saturated fats,β she said. [[Lucind
