I went to fashion school for a year and we worked exclusively with calico. I assumed it would be painless working with rayon considering all the hours Iโve put in with sewing and garment construction using calico, and rayon would just be a little thinner.
Itโs horrific, itโs slippery, it stretches, my pattern pieces donโt ever match up, my sewing is crooked post washโฆ
Iโve followed YouTube tutorials and tried to starch the fabric and that was dusty and Iโm unsure if it actually worked.
My mum loves rayon, and Iโve been trying to make her a pair of pants but the project has been sitting there taunting me for weeks.
Does anyone have any tips???
So I sewed up some arenite pants a few weeks ago out of a rayon linen blend. Of course I pre-washed and dried the fabric before sewing. Once complete I didnโt like how loose they were so I actually took in all the seams by roughly 1/4โ. Well yesterday was the first time I washed the completed pants (on delicate, hung to dry) and they shrunk! Not so much that I canโt wear them but Iโm scared to wash them again. Do you only hand wash rayon items??
I bought a cream-coloured 85% rayon/14% nylon/1% spandex dress second hand and was hoping to dye it for a wedding in the fall. Iโm wondering if itโs possible, how difficult it is, and what dye would work for this (preferably common dyes that I donโt have to special order). Iโm not picky on the colour, it just needs to be something other than cream/white. I also live in an apartment without laundry so methods that donโt really involve multiple washes/drying would be great. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you :)
Iโm a bit confused about the differences between these three. Apparently viscose and rayon can be made from bamboo, so does that mean that any fiber/fabric labeled โbambooโ is one of these two? Or is plain โbambooโ something different?
The reason I ask is because I am looking to buy some natural yarn to make my own socks and one of the brands I found is made out of 100% bamboo fiber. However when I felt it, it was super soft and felt pretty similar to something made out of viscose/rayon, so it just had me wondering if maybe the labeling was misleading and it really is viscose/rayon? Or is 100% bamboo its own thing?

It's some kind of fancy bamboo bedding. I haven't washed these sheets in months (depression) and they smell and harbor bacteria, I'm sure. How do I thoroughly wash them, going by the washing indications (no hot water), and get rid of the last bacteria residing between these silky threads?
I have Lion Brand's Truboo yarn and I was curious if this type of yarn is okay for potholders?
If not what is the correct type of yarn for this? I heard 100% cotton is fine
Hi! I thrifted a 100% rayon betsey johnson skirt and was wondering if it would be ok to handwash. The tag says dry clean only and no steam but I have been ok handwashing dry clean only clothes. My only worry is that I saw online that 100% rayon may or always shrinks when wet. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and could give me tips - could I handwash or use my steamer, or only dryclean? Thanks!
Hi everybody! I bought 2 lolita blouses (same size) in the summer.. assuming that they would fit the same. For some odd reason one of them fits way too large despite the other one fitting. The material is 53% viscose and 47% rayon, I did some research and found that it should be hand washed in cold or else it will shrink. I have washed it in warm water and put it in the dryer to no prevail. Does anybody have any advice or tips on how to shrink this? Thank you!
