Why do people hate Ultramarines so much?
Iโm relatively new to the hobby and want to make an Ultramarines army because Iโm following the rule of cool. People really seem to dislike them, though. If I play at some FLGS will people rag on me for playing them? Why are they disliked so much?
Edit: decided to paint my Marines as Fulminators.

My theory on how Titus fits into the timeline of the captaincy of the Ultramarines' 2nd Company
I by no means consider myself knowledgeable enough in the lore to say this works perfectly, so by all means if my theory doesn't work, please do correct me, but by analyzing the events of the game and other lore available, here's what I think happened in the succession of the captaincy of the 2nd chapter in a way that makes Titus fit:
- Severus Agemman is captain of the 2nd Company. Both Titus and Cato Sicarius are serving under him.
- Agemman takes the captaincy of the 1st Company. Titus is named captain of the 2nd Company.
- The Events of Space Marine happen: the Ork and Chaos invasions of Forge World Graia are thwarted thanks to Titus and the Ultramarines, but because of Titus's unorthodox methods and unusual resistance to Chaos taint, Titus is accused of heresy by Leandros and he is taken away by the Inquisition.
- Cato Sicarius is named the new captain of the 2nd Company, and Titus's name is stricken off the Ultramarine records because of the nature of his removal from the captaincy, hence his tenure is not acknowledged. This explains why, in canon lore, Sicarius is named as the direct successor of Agemman with no mention of Titus. Presumably, Titus's tenure was a short one, and ended in disgrace because of the heresy accusation.
- Titus is found non-heretical by the Inquisition, but in order for him to receive full exoneration, he is ordered to serve the Inquisition for a time. Titus eventually completes his service to the Inquisition and is given full exoneration. This explains both one of his Purity Seals and the Inquisitorial marker on his wrist: the Inquisition acknowledges Titus as loyal and as having given valuable service to the Imperium.
- Titus returns to Ultramar, and is evaluated and declared pure by the chapter's Master Of Sanctity. This explains the second Purity Seal with the insignia of the Ultramarines. Titus is welcomed back into the Ultramarines. However, Titus's former captaincy is currently filled by either Cato Sicarius or, most likely, Sevastus Acheran, thus he cannot be reinstated as Captain. Hence, Titus does not hold his previous rank. He is likely named a Sergeant, or perhaps, depending on what deeds Titus accomplished during his tenure with the Inquisition, a Veteran Sergeant.
- In current 40K canon, Severus Agemman has been captain of the 1st Company of the Ultramarines for 200 years. Taking into account Titus's two new service studs in the Space Marine 2 trailer, that means that the events of the Invasion of Graia ha

Ultramarines Reaction to Guilliman
I hear a lot about certain factions reactions to a primarch walking among them but not much on the blue boys themselves. How did calgar, cato, and other um react to the fact their ancient gene father was walking among them. Did any of them take it too hard when he told them that the codex of which they followed to the letter was just meant to be a guideline not a rulebook? Did they feel a psychic connection or affect when he came back from the dead? We know marines feel it when their primarch dies so did they feel the reverse?

The Ultramarines are actually kinda cool.
After reviewing their lore in the Horus Heresy, and reading about some of their frankly, OUTRAGEOUS achievements in 40k, I have decided that they are decided that they are pretty cool. Any lore to contradict this?

Master Chief (Halo) vs Ultramarine (WH40K)
This question is more so a 2 parter. Essentially, I was wondering if Master Chief could go toe-to-toe against one of 40K's very own Ultramarines, and if so, how many Ultramarines would be able to take down Master Chief?
- Both people can bring out any weapon they could conceivably know how to use and bring
- No vehicles
- Neither have knowledge of one another other then "enemy"
- Victory by death
- Everyone at top physical/healthy condition at the start of combat.

[Hypothetical] What would be the worst names for a squad of Ultramarines?
Context: Iโm making a kill team of Ultramarines (five of them) and need some dumb-ass, stupid-ass names out of left field.
Context 2: I have existing KTs:
- Death Company Ass Ints named after famous philosophers
- Death Guard Plague Marines named after the Seven Dwarves
- Necrons named after Arnold Schwarzeneggerโs movie roles
Hit me with your worst shot, please.
Edit: every day we stray further from the God-Emperorโs light
