(2nd Ascension)

"It Forced my Lute": A 1739 letter to Robert Boyle uses this phrase to describe the effects of distilling coal. Were lutes and other musical instruments used in some way in 17th century science?

For more context, here is the phrase in an extract from the letter, written by Henry Clayton, and published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, 1739:

>I then got some Coal from one of the Pits nearest thereunto, which I distilled in a Retort in an open Fire. At first there came over only Phlegm, afterwards a black Oil, and then likewise a Spirit arose, which I could noways condense, but it forced my Lute, or broke my Glasses. Once, when it had forced the Lute, coming close thereto, in order to try to repair it, I observed that the Spirit which issued out caught Fire at the Flame of the Candle, and continued burning with Violence as it issued out, in a Stream, which I blew out, and lighted again, alternately, for several times.

This has been in my mind for a while. Can any of you feel the weird and striking resemblance that Joe Lo Truglio (Boyle) has to Robert Downey, Jr?

I know, what the hell dude? But seriously guys, I'm not joking. You probably would never spot any such a thing if you just look at their pictures, 'cause they don't really look like each other. But whenever Boyle (my favorite character in a way) talks, his body language, his facial expressions, the part of his face from the eyebrows down to the mouth and around it, these make me feel all the time as if I am looking at Downey!!

If no one else happens to have noticed it, I will find it very strange, because I SEE IT!!
Please tell me you noticed too.

Here are some GIFs to kiiinda reinforce the impression
