Brutalist Architecture and Otherworldly Machines in Dune 2021
Let's talk about the incredible fascist and brutalist architecture and otherworldly machines represented in large-scale in Dune 2021.
The designs of the ships and machinery impressed in me a sense of scale that is massive in terms of space and time. Like these things were built to last centuries and they were not meant to convey any sense of comfort or well-being to the individual. The aeasthetic of the machinery and architecture seemed to follow the design goal of conveying absolute power.
The aesthetic reminded me of fascist / communist architecture from the 20th century iterated over thousands of years. Their brutalist designs left the impression that these machines were as permanent and unyielding as anything else naturally occurring on the cosmic scale; An aesthetic of power for the sake of power that makes any sense of individuality and freedom seem laughably unattainable.
EDIT: Thanks for clarifying that brutalism is not confined to fascism, and thanks for all of the thoughtful responses in the comments. I have learned a lot; bless the maker.

All buildings inside the tornado alley should have a brutalist architecture and be built like bunkers. This would avoid most damage and save lives and money in the long run.
I can't understand for the life of me why homes and buildings in general built in states like Kansas and Oklahoma are built out of timber and plywood, like the rest of the country, when the rest of the country doesn't have tornadoes that can destroy entire towns. Every building inside the tornado alley should be built like a bunker. This would save money, lives, and time (cleaning up debris and rebuilding). The states should try to subsidize this.

Can someone explain how this church is not defined as brutalist architecture? wikipedia says its contemporary but to me it looks brutalist cause of the hard concrete and not many windows.

How do you feel about brutalist/communist-era architecture?
Like it or not, you could argue itβs a defining feature of any formerly communist state. Many people think itβs ugly but recently I feel like thereβs been a wave of Instagram accounts and books praising it and its examples in Europe because itβs a e s t h e t i c (80s nostalgic/vapor wave/sci-fi looking particularly for those living in areas outside of formerly communist states)
