First off this is only my personal opinion and how I perceive things. By greatest athlete I've ever seen I don't mean the goat or the best player, but someone who gives me the most joy when watching them play in a personal level.
I never thought Eden hazard would be overtaken by any athlete as my favorite athlete and someone capable of surprising me at every turn but Jokic has definitely overtaken him as my favorite athlete. Right when he started the only thing I could think of was how the hell was he a second round pick. He looked so offensive polished and was spot on in his decision making. I realized his true potential when he almost beat team usa all by himself in the Olympics. He made the entire team his bitch lol, and I was so excited for next year but there was some drama between him and nurk about starting and I was disappointed asf. Soon that changed too with him getting his start on this special day. Everything is history since then.
The first 2 Jokic led seasons were exciting but tough to watch. He nearly carried us all by himself to the playoffs twice but was heart broken by Russ and then Taj Gibson. But those 2 years he really proved that he could carry a team in the toughest conference and had a skillset no one in the nba had. Even better? He was improving every single year consistently? He first became our leading playmaker, then our leading scorer, and added new tricks every year. I was in awe. In 2019 we had a dream season where he looked like an MVP candidate and he was really robbed from a top 3 finish by Paul George. It was beyond my wildest dreams. We were good again and second favorites in the west. Sadly the rest of the team didn't have the playoff experience and we crashed to the blazers.
The next year was even better and many of us secretly thought we were contenders even though other fans called us pretenders. After his slump at the start where people actually started to doubt jokic he showed us more of his much improved scoring game as the season went to the bubble. The magnificent 7 game happened and I knew this was the best player in the game.
Watching the bubble was a roller coster. I underestimated the jazz who lost 3 to us in the season and after game 1 I was euphoric. He just humiliated the dpoy and was well set to go to the second round. Then games 2-4 happened and it was very very rough. I started doubting the team.
