A list of puns related to "Winter Service Vehicle"
Every year I usually put my winter tires on in the first week of November. Might be a little pre-mature but itβs best to be prepared.
This year however, I decided to wait until my service was ready and to get it all done at once to save myself time and it bit me in the ass.
Iβm home now and on the verge of tears because I got stuck on the giant hill on horseshoe valley road on my way home due to the snow squall. The only thing that saved me is checking my pressure regularly and topping it up.
Also please slow down in these conditions. I was driving 40 on the 400 (hazards were on) cause you could not see anything past 50 metres and people were flying past me on the left.
Stay safe and stay warm. A blanket and first aid/emergency kit in your car would not be so bad.
Enterprise at the Grande Prairie airport, thatβs who. Two hours, two rentals with dead batteries (one with Ontario plates and not even M&S tires), a third that started but the brakes were frozen and undrivable. The guy at the front desk was an hour and a half past closing time by this point and basically said βsee yaβ as my husband tried to get the brakes warmed up. We ended up leaving the keys at the rental desk and booked a hotel for the night to find another car in the morning so we can make the rest of our trip to northern BC. Complete lunacy.
Any thoughts on which rental company provides winters and a block heater in GP?
ETA: Saved by Avis this morning. AWD with winters, same price Enterprise was charging us for our original rental.
Feel free to add:
-Always keep a full extra set of winter clothes in your vehicle: jacket, pants, hat, gloves, blanket, hand warmers. Jumper cables are good too, tow rope if you have the right vehicle.
-Snow tires are delightful and amazing but expensive, all-weather tires will do nicely
-Brake WAY earlier than you think you need to, and brake gently. Braking hard will cause you to slide.
-If you can afford it, get your car washed every couple weeks to get rid of/protect from road salt. Or at least after warm days/fresh snows.
-SLOW DOWN
-Do not accelerate hard when turning
-Driving on packed snow is better than icy road
First winter in the snow. I've noticed my car accumulates a ton of slush behind the wheels and subsequently causes splashing along the body panels.
I know that there are car washes that do full service. I know some have monthly membership things.
How often do y'all get your cars washed? It seems silly to go get it cleaned, but immediately drive on snowy ground again.
Where do y'all recommend for best service/quality for a car wash?
Do mudflaps and protective film do anything at all?
Obviously remote starters or starting the car a few minutes before you get in it to go anywhere is not where I'm going with this. For people who get in the car, start it, and drive, I'm very curious where people stand on this.
For me, I think It's silly to crank the fan on high even though it's blowing pretty much cold air from outdoors. Then you have to drive like 2-3 miles with cold air blowing on you before the air starts to get warmer. Isn't it easier/more comfortable to wait until the engine warms up and it can blow warm air?
If you blow cold air why?
What inspired this post is people in my life that appear to don't understand it and don't want to understand it. IDK why if you're already cold you'd want cold air blowing on you.
To get to my work I must climb a significant mountain road. Itβs paved but when it snows itβs often hours or more before it gets plowed. The company maintains the road so they hire their own crew and have been cutting back on people in that department. My manager is always getting on me to buy a 4x4 but I canβt get one, even if I wanted to shell out thousands for a new/used vehicle.
I feel like if the road is unsafe to drive with a FWD vehicle it should be the companyβs responsibility to make the road drivable? Any one with experience with this type of problems? Last year I got spoken to because I put in for 2 hrs of βunapproved OT because snow had taken a tree down and I couldnβt get home until it was cleared.
Iβm just wondering if Iβm legally allowed to refuse unsafe work in the winter months when my boss refuses to put winter tires on? We drive highway all day everyday, and weβre expected to drive in all types of weather, but our tires havenβt been changed yet.
I generally idle my Toyota Highlander for 5 to 10 min in the morning to warm up after a cold, wintry night. Generally get to below -15 to -25 Celsius overnight. Am I doing more damage to my vehicle by idling it for 5 to 10 min or driving it after 30 seconds of idle?
My work is only 5 min away, so I am doing fairly short trips in the winter.
Also, do cold starts actually hurt the engine? Should I have small block heater on at night when its super cold so as not to hurt the engine on a cold start or is this just nonsense?
Thanks for any help
Hello all....
Iβm yet another victim of the rampant vehicle theft that is occurring around Denver as of late. It was a light tan (almost looks silver) 1995 Honda Accord. It had some skater brands bumper stickers on the back, I donβt remember exactly what they were since they were just on there when I bought it. It also had Iowa plates.
After escaping an abusive relationship, after which my ex burned almost all of my belongings, I managed to find a friend in Denver with a couch I could crash on and just started a new construction job, and I fled out here with only my car and a couple bags of clothes in the trunk, along with my only winter jacket and winter boots, and the only remaining pictures of my two younger brothers that both committed suicide a couple years ago.
It was already difficult enough getting my construction boss to take a chance on me, being a female and also with a broken wrist, but he did and I finally felt like I had something good going for me again, and a new lease on life, when I woke up one morning to go to work, only to discover my car stolen. The cop that came to do the report didnβt offer much reassurance that it would be recovered, he said a lot of those vehicles are chopped up and parted out within hours.
If anyone does happen to see it, please please PM me or report it to the cops. I will try to update with the license plate number when I find my paperwork that has it listed on there. I may have a vin number for it as well, the car was from NY originally and I believe the vin was right on the dash in the front windshield if it hasnβt been stripped off.
Thank you so much for reading and keeping an eye out. Iβm almost ready to give up on life at this point. Idk if Iβve ever hit a rock bottom like this before. Also, if anyone knows of anyone needing help with any residential construction, please PM me. Iβve done drywalling, tile work, painting, plumbing, trim carpentry, deck building, demo, some electrical, etc. Thank you so much and happy holidays everyone.
Of course, I'll connect the drive train after I've welded the frame together.
I reached 5 stars 10 minutes ago and havenβt received the c.202 yet. Is this normal? Update: solved

Hello, new here. Please let me know if there is a better sub for this question. One of my older Facebook friends has taken to posting a lot of anti-EV propaganda to their page. I saw a post with the premise where there is a traffic pile up during a winter storm and everyone drives an EV. The point was that you couldn't run the heat for very long without draining the battery, then everyone would just get stuck in place and be dangerously cold. I don't know a lot about EV design, but this seemed unlikely, so I was wondering if someone had a counter argument. I personally carry warm clothing when it's cold in case of emergency (or just a flat) but apparently many people just rely on their car's heat? Do electric cars have reliable heating systems?
edit: thanks everyone! The original post is actually pretty funny so I made a link... "has anyone actually thought it through?" Gotta love the hubris
